Scottsdale Update #2

Hi friends, it's Pony Girl again! I talked to Paint Girl last night. Poor thing, she had a headache and sounded awful. She's come down with a bit of a cold. No doubt from the long hours, stress, and lack of sleep. I hope she takes care of herself!! At least they are getting some exceptionally warm weather....she said by 10 a.m. she's in a tank top and it's been in the 80's!

Despite the cold virus, she is having fun and things are going well in Arizona. If they have a class first thing in the morning, then they are at the barn at 6:40 a.m. She said that everything at West World is very spread out and finding an arena to longe a horse in can be difficult. They cruise around West World in golf carts. She said horses have the right of way, but, it get's a little crazy out there!

Sometimes, Paint Girl is in charge of a horse in a class. For example, she does final grooming touches like taking it's tail down before it goes into the arena, and then meets the horse and rider after the class. She was very proud that one client's horse won grand champion in it's class, and she had done the horse's make-up. Isn't that funny, doing a horse's make-up? Good job Paint Girl! Maybe you can do My Boy's make-up for me this summer!

She said there are different arenas for everything (reining, dressage, etc.) Can you imagine how many arenas and classes must be going on all at once to get through 2,200 horses?

One of the other trainers at the barn had to scratch a horse from it's class because it'd never been shown and just wasn't settling in.

The days are long, they usually return to the condo around 7:00 p.m where they quickly change into sweat pants and lounge around. They should be leaving Arizona next Tuesday, and returning Wednesday. Paint Girl will then take a few well-deserved days off to rest, catch up on things at home, and visit with her own ponies! She asked me if Chance had grown. I don't think she has, but after not seeing her for nearly a month, I bet she'll look bigger to Paint Girl!

I will post another update should anything come up in the next week. Paint Girl will try to check the comments and post replies to them if you want to ask her something. Also, if you will be attending the show and would like to stop by and say hello, please email her at thepaintedcreek@gmail.com. I know she'd love to see some of you bloggers that were hoping to stop by!!

Hopefully Paint Girl doesn't get too worn out. That cold is probably not actually a cold but her body's way of saying "Whoa! Ease up and chill out lady!" :)

Do you know if Paint Girl took her camera with her?

Oh! It's so great to read an update on Paint Girl. Thanks Pony Girl! How is her ankle/foot doing? I hope she is able to have some more downtime to rest and get better from her cold. I bet she'll need a little vacation when she finally gets home!

I've been bummed that I couldn't make it out there, but between all of our snow, my walk/trot/canter class and trail rides, and shopping for a new horse, I've just been unable to get away.

Please tell her Hi from me! I hope she has been taking photos and will give us all the details from her perspective when she gets home, too!

Oh I so remember the colds and such, there wasn't a year I went I didn't get sick. It is because of all the long hours, and lack of sleep:) But it is an experience you never forget:) Other than arabian nationals that is the best show:) Hope she gets to feeling better:)

80 degrees? Lucky! Those horses live the life, don't they?? Getting their makeup and hair done every day. LOL. That's a horse-world I've never experienced!

Trade shows are a lot of work! KUDOS to Paint Girl for having the stamina and the patience to work hard all day and then have to live with other people at night! Doesn't sound like a lot of "me" time in there! But then again, Paint Girl is probably a lot more social than I am! I am an old curmudgeon! I hope you are able to eat right, paint Girl and get at least a little sleep! Congrats on that make up job!

Sandra- the class that our client won the championship in was country pleasure JOTR 14-17. It was very exciting!! We have other horses that are doing pretty well too. I hope I can remember how they all did when I get home! I will definitely explain the makeup when I get home. Lots to tell but unfortunately I haven't been able to take many pictures, too crazy busy. I am hoping to get some pix on my last day since we don't have any horses showing!

Hi Paint Girl...just stopping by to see what you're up to and I'm sorry to hear about that cold! You'll probably sleep for a week when you get home! Take care....and yes, I have no clue what that make up is all about? Can't wait to hear about your wonderful time!

Where was that 80 degree weather when I got there?? It was 48 degrees at noon on Saturday and by the evening show, the horses sweaty bodies were steaming from the cold! Everyone was freezing!!

I am sure PG was very busy, too much for us to even meet, unfortunately. She did an excellent job prepping the horses. I saw the English Pleasure class where another client took the Champion trophy and a nice little check too.

Oh gosh! How much fun is that! I mean hard work yes - but FUN! I am soooo glad she got to go! Yes big shows are alot of walking - that's why alot of the big wigs rent Golf Carts.

That update made me miss the show ring sooooo much!

....sigh......

Someday soon, someday.....
