Last Saturday while I was at work, I received a phone call from my OH. He asked if I had gotten a picture text. I told him I didn't think so. He then says "Guess what your Mustang did today?". I told him I was really busy, and that I couldn't talk at that time. When I had a minute, I checked my texts and I had not received one. So I texted him back to tell him that. He immediately re-sends the picture text. This is what I get:

Um, WHAT? I replied to his text and say "There is no way!" I then called him back and asked WHAT THE HECK? This is how the story goes:
My OH came home from running errands and went out to feed the horses. He had just fed Brandy and Fritzy their grain, when he heard Chance whinny. He looked up towards her pasture and saw Chance somewhere she isn't supposed to be, he freaked out and took off at a run, pushing the wheelbarrow full of hay (MEN!) to see what the heck was going on. He gets up to Chance's pasture and jumps the gate. I think the picture is self explanatory. Chance had somehow gotten into the storage area next to her shed. Okay, so here's the deal. We couldn't figure out how the heck she got in there. We used to have a snap on the latch, but it is missing. And even if she was to somehow get the snap off the latch, the wood gate is so hard to open, because my carpenter OH neglected to leave space for when the wood swells, and I can barely open that gate. So I know there is no way that she could have opened it. The only other way she could have gotten in is by squeezing between the post and the fence on the left side. She must have gotten her head back there to eat some grass, and just squeezed her way through. Once she realized what happened, she might have attempted to get out, but there is electric wire along the top of the fence.
If you look at this picture below, you will see the gate she somehow got behind. There is only maybe 10" of space between the fence and the gate post. The storage area is only about 4' wide at the gate and narrows quickly to a foot wide space. I keep my muck bucket, muck bucket cart and rake back there. Let's just say that there was very minimal space for her to even turn around.

We don't believe she was back there for long. There was only one pile of poo, and she didn't touch anything that is stored back there. I am just thankful that she wasn't hurt. When my OH let her out, she just ran and bucked and went to eat her dinner. Now that is what I call silly Mustang antics!! My OH immediately fixed the gap in the fence so this won't happen again.
In other news, I brought out Chance again for a longing lesson, I think I got more of a workout then Chance did though. It went quite well. I even put SMB boots on her, for the first time. She didn't even care.
After lunging, I brought out the clippers, for the first time. She didn't care about them at all. I was able to clip her fetlocks, whiskers, and I started a bridle path with scissors, then went over it with the clippers. She got a little fussy when I got closer to her ears, but she handled it so well. A couple more times and she should be an old pro.
What a good little Mustang!
I even took her places, for the first time! I led her down to our house, by the horse trailer, up the driveway and she did AWESOME! She was a little tentative, but she totally trusted me and relaxed immediately. As I was heading up the driveway, a car drove by. That didn't phase her at all. Soon I will be leading her everywhere on our property and through our neighborhood.
This has been the most rewarding experience for me and I am really looking forward to what the future brings!!
Thanks goes to my sis, Pony Girl, for taking the last few pictures of Chance and I. This ole brain of mine is getting tired, and forgot the camera on the kitchen counter!!

What a goofy mustang! They really make you wonder sometimes, don't they?
Just have to add that I LOVED your updates about Scottsdale, what a great adventure!
It's amazing what trouble they can get into!
Love the pictures of you with her - she's becoming quite the old hand and seems to have a basically pretty calm disposition.
Sounds like your girl is too smart for her own good, eh?
Chance probably was so puzzled when she squeezed through that space. She whinnied to tell your OH where she was! She is the cutest, smartest horse ever!
What a little monkey getting stuck in that space! Glad she wasn't hurt...
So great that you clipped her and did all that other stuff. Wanna come up here and teach my 20 year old horse that clippers aren't death??? lol
Love the last picture of the two of you!
She's SO adorable! Sounds like you are doing an awesome job building trust with her. Soon she'll let you do anything you want. Training a young horse is really so much fun and seeing their progress is so rewarding. Working with my Piper has been the best experience. I can't believe she's going to be 3 this summer. Time goes by so quickly.
It is crazy the situations young horses can get themselves in. I'm glad she wasn't injured. Sounds like she's doing fantastic just taking everything in stride. :) Was she born in the wild or after her dam was captured? When was she born? She's gorgeous by the way.
Great pics Pony Girl! I CAN believe Chance squeezed back there because they're good at that and you ARE lucky she's a smart little filly to not get hurt! Looks like she just waited until someone saw her....what a cutie! Good for you on the lunging, I have not even done that with Romeo yet and he's two, however, he has had LOTS of round pen training and walks/trots/canters nice and calm around so I'm might try him on one today! It's raining here so we'll be inside. I LOVE your HAIR!
That is a great picture of you two! She is turning into such a beauty.
To be honest I still can't see a space big enough for her to have squeezed through, what a little monkey! I think it's great that you're doing so much with her, like the clippers etc. So many horses here are spooky at things, because whoever owned them when they were young didn't bother to get them out and about seeing as much as possible. It is a real gap in their education if you don't do it. In England today, you can't say a horse will never see traffic, so the sooner you get them used to it the better as far as I can see, so well done you.
You sure are having a lot of easy firsts with her. I'm sure that working with horses all day gives you a vibe that you are just one of the herd and can be trusted.
Babies have their ways of escaping--wouldn't you just love to have a secret video cam and tape the whole thing?!? Of course, we'd probably have a heart attack! She's doing phenomenal, btw.
They do find the darndest places to get itno . Glad she wasn't hurt. Looks like a smart little girl!
Chance is getting to be quite the chunk!! She is going to be a really nice horse!! I love that last picture of you two!! And babies do the darndest things. I would go to the barn in the mornings and the filly would be on one side of the fence and the mare on the other!! No scratch on the baby at all!!! You just never know!! LOL!!!
She looks like she is doing great!
Very cool on your mustang progress - you make it all look so easy! I have had some stinkers in my time, Pat was easy but he is the first easy one I have had.
Ahahahahah! Horses can be so curious and mischievous. Once my old mare Punki (in her younger days) got herself stuck over a swing on our old playset/fort in my parent's backyard. I was away at college and my mom called me to say the part of the swing you sit on was under Punki's belly! Apparently she figured out how to get out of that one unharmed! Its so good to hear how well she is doing and how much progress you are making. She is so adorable, I really love her!
Lucky she didn't hurt herself! What horses can't find to get into!
Wow, you two look great together, sounds like she is really doing will with all you are doing with her. Good girl on the clippers!
Too funny...by the way, she may jump over something in the future...babies do that!
Ooooh! I just love that last photo of you and Chance! You look radiant! And Chance is just lovely!
Seems like Chance is getting bored of her pen and wants to get out and explore. What a smart and clever girl.
You might want to try bringing in some trail challenges and obstacles and toys for her to explore and play with, too.
She's one smart cookie!

I think it is marvelous that she saw your husband as a way out of her pickle. She is really becoming the pretty girl. Those photos need to be enlarged and framed.
Well looks like Chance is going to keep life exciting there on the farm!
Achieve1Dream~ Chance was born in captivity. Her mom is a 11 yr old Sale Authority Mustang that has also been adopted. Chance turns one year on April 9th, coming up very soon!
I first saw Chance when she was 3 months old and new I was going to adopt her when she was 4 months old. She was about 5 1/2 months old before she let me touch her for the first time. Now she is such a people horse!
April 9th! Well that explains it (lol) my 2 best mares shared that same birthday!
Maybe she's part cat?
:)
I love the last picture of you too. It speaks volumes.
I bet Chance was as surprised as you guys were to end up on the other side of the gate. You are doing lots of great work with her! Can you please come clip my boys? They could use baths too.
I love those photos of you and Chance together. She sounds like she's extremely smart and fun to work with. It's amazing what those babies will do, given the 'chance'. lol. I'm glad she's okay.
You are doing everything that it is going to take to make this one a great pony. Well done.
Love the last picture of both of you!
What a goofy little gal! Great pic of the two of you...hope that's going in a frame. You're doing such a great job with her! :)
Very interesting, how she got through that gap! Still can't figure it out after looking at it. Glad she was okay and that you liked the pictures! :) We'll have to do a shot like that every month or so and see if we can notice a difference in her as she matures. By the way, I think she really has a "girly" mare face, don't you think?
Wonderful post! I can't figure her out, what a silly girl! She gets prettier everytime I see her. Great pics.
Oh she is a SILLY mustang!!! They do the darnedest things sometimes LOL!! I am so impressed with her everytime you talk about her!! And I absolutely LOVE the last picture of you two!! She reminds me of one of my 4 yr olds that I just sold, but I had her from about 4 months of age ;(
Another great blog post! I love the pictures and your tales about your OH running with the wheelbarrow! So funny, Paint Girl! Looks like Chance is lloking more and more like a little mare and less like a little filly! maybe you will have a series of DVDs and books like CLINTON one day!!!!!!!!
Congrats on all your firsts! :)
what a baaad pony! such a cute face. loved the pic of the both of you. horses are forever doing something to keep us on our feet! glad she didn't get into any grain!
Left you something on my blog :) The post will be up Friday morning
She's a trick pony! Wow, she's getting so big and so mature. I didn't think I'd been away for THAT long! Glad she's continuing to do so well for you!
what a silly girl! She sounds like a toddler climbing in places she's not supposed to go. You can't be mad at her though, she's too darned cute! I'm sure you're OH needed something ELSE to do anyway!
I'm glad she didn't get hurt either! The predicaments that horses can get themselves into sometimes is amazing.
I love that last pic of you and Chance, it's awesome. :-)
what a cutie pie... I want a baby to play with.
