Once at the tack store, I browsed around. They had done some minor remodeling, so it looked more open, but it has always been so crowded in there. That is the only thing I don't like about that tack store. If it is really busy, you can't move around when there are too many people in there. There was only one other person in there, so it was a good day to browse. I always stop by the clothes first. I usually have good luck finding cute t-shirts but didn't see anything that I just had to have. I went to the western tack area and found the tie straps. They didn't have the color I needed for my saddles, but figured I'd get a couple anyways. You can't really see the tie straps when your saddle is cinched up. I then went to browse through the leather cleaners and picked out a sponge and a pack of the travel sized leather cleaning wipes. I have been meaning to get some of those for when we go on our horse trips. I then went to try on some gloves. Couldn't find any that fit my little hands and long fingers. Gloves are so hard for me to find. I ended up in the boot section. Goodness, why do I even bother? I know I will end up going home with a new pair! I have so many pairs of boots, but every time I buy a pair, I won't wear them around the horses. But I really needed a new pair of boots for work. So I tried on a pair of Ariat Pro Baby's, and they fit. Of course! I own like 8 pairs of Ariat's and they always fit! So I added them to my pile (do not tell my OH!), along with a Wrangler Q-Baby Ultimate Riding Shirt. Going to the tack store is so darn dangerous!!

I figured I did enough damage to the check book so I decided to hit the road and get home. I am cruising down the freeway in the left lane. There is an SUV behind me and a car in the middle lane a couple cars back. The far right lane is closed due to road construction. The speed limit is 70 mph through this section of freeway and I was doing 70, maybe a little less because it is a construction zone. I see a motorcycle on the left side of the road, very close to the actual lane I am driving in. He wasn't that far off the road so I hit my brakes and moved over a little when all of a sudden he decided to cut right out in front of me to cross the freeway. He was moving so slow, then I noticed he had a flat tire. I slammed on my brakes so hard to avoid hitting him. I must have gone from 70 to 20 mph in a couple seconds. I looked in my rear view mirror to see if the SUV that was behind me was going to slam into the back of my car. Thank goodness he was aware that I slammed on my breaks, because he had already slammed on his breaks and avoided hitting me. Then I see the car in the middle lane hit the motorcycle, which went flying 10-15 feet up into the air, along with the guy that was on the motorcycle. Parts of the motorcycle and car were flying everywhere. I immediately pulled over to the side of the freeway and about 8 other cars had already pulled over. When I got out of my car, I see the motorcycle guy laying in the middle of the freeway. There were already around 6 people surrounding him. My first thought was that he was dead. Then I saw his arms and legs move. Someone else was on their phone with 911. The guy was conscious, and was moaning and moving his arms and legs. Other people started directing traffic around the crash site. I talked to the guy that was behind me and he couldn't believe that the motorcycle guy tried crossing the freeway with oncoming traffic. And he couldn't believe that I didn't hit him. I was in shock myself. The state patrol and ambulance finally arrived. At this point the motorcycle guy had stood up and the cop was talking to him. He told the cop that he had gotten a flat tire and there wasn't much room on that side of the freeway so he was going to cross the freeway to the other side where the shoulder was wider, which makes sense, but in front of oncoming traffic doing 70 mph? Not a good idea.
The cop then asked who witnessed the accident and for those people to stay there to write a statement. He sent everyone else on their way. The cop then talked to me to see what happened, since the motorcycle guy pulled out right in front of me, and I saw the other car hit him, I had to fill out a witness statement. The couple that were in the car that actually hit the motorcycle, had a 2 1/2 month old baby in their car. It wasn't their fault. There is no way they could have avoided the motorcycle. I can't believe I was able to avoid the motorcycle. But thank goodness I was able too because if I would have hit him, it would have been smack dab in the middle of his bike and he would have been seriously injured, if not dead. The car that did hit him, clipped the back of his bike with the front passenger side of their car, so the impact caused the motorcycle and guy to fly through the air. The motorcycle ended up at least 50 feet south from where he landed.
I consider myself a very good driver. I am also a very cautious driver. I am always watching out for other drivers. There are way too many crazy driver's on the road. But this had nothing to do with bad drivers on the freeway. No one was speeding, no one was zooming in and out of lanes. Everyone was just cruising along at the speed limit, on their way home, to work, to the outlet mall, when someone made a bad decision and tried to cross the freeway into oncoming traffic. It could have had a different outcome. The motorcycle guy, or someone else, could have lost their life. Thank goodness he is going to be okay. Hopefully he will never try something like that again.
I have seen numerous accidents, like we all have, and I have only been in one car accident in my life, 15 yrs ago. But I have never been this close to witnessing someone almost getting killed, and I could have been the one who destroyed this man's life for his one stupid mistake. Crazy thought, I know. But it could have happened that way. I thank my lucky stars that someone was on my side today and that no one was seriously injured. It could have been so. much. worse.
I should have just stayed home and sat on the couch by the toasty fireplace, sipping hot chocolate and cuddling with my kitty................

Those pesky motorcycle riders seem to think they are invincible and they scare the tar out of me. I would have been so scared to witness that but to almost hit him would have had me shaking in my boots (nice boots by the way). I am glad it was not any worse than it is...whew that was a close call. Hope you are able to sleep tonight!
Wow! What a day! Glad to hear everyone is okay... I can't imagine hitting someone... I hit a deer once on the interstate, that was bad enough :-(
Its a miracle he's alive. Glad you're okay...
So glad it wasn't you that hit him. That would be a hard thing. I can't believe the guy was okay after that.
It sounds like you really wanted leather tie straps so you probably wouldn't like this but I bought some tiny dog collars to use for tie straps. I like that they buckle and they're cheaper than buying something at the tack store because first of all, they're cheaper and second of all there's not all that tack store temptation.
Wow. Just wow. Some people really shouldn't be on the road. So glad it wasn't worse.
By the way, NICE boots :)
I have a black ultimate riding shirt by wrangler it zips up at the neck. I love it and got it for such a steal.
My mom and dad have a motorcycle and they are always talking about people getting killed on them by car drivers that don't check their blind spots or are careless but that guy's idea was just stupid if you ask me. Glad he is ok though.
As stressed as you are , I am glad it was you .A conscientious driver who became aware of the risk early on is what saved that young mans life! Someone else may not have picked up on the signs that something was amiss and already have been slowing down. While I am often frustrated by the cavalier attitude of bikers and some other drivers no one wants to be that cause of a serious injury or death, glad you got out of it all safely as well. And COOL BOOTS!
Wow, what a day! I'm glad you are ok, but sorry you had to go through all that! Great boots...
First off, I LOVE the boots :) I have a pair of Pro baby's that I just love!!
WOW what a story! I am so glad you did not hit him!! WHAT was he thinking crossing then?! UGHH SO glad he's okay!!
Even though this didn't have anything to do with seatbelts I just have to say how important they are!! We just lost a 16 yr old (actually she would have been 17 two days after the accident) girl 2 weeks ago. It was her and 2 other teenage boys and one boy was driving down a local dirt road that is very hilly, bad terrain, and everyone knows how dangerous this road is but anyways he was going excessively fast and lost control. His SUV hit the ditch and then launched into the air and flew 136 feet before landing and launching again another 50 feet flipping of course and the young girl was ejected from the SUV and it landed on top of her killing her instantly...Not one of them was wearing their seatbelts but the other 2 were ok. This is the 2nd accident in our little county in the last couple of months where someone has been ejected and the vehicle landed on them and killing them! So so scary out there sometimes...
Gosh, that was hard to read, not because of your writing (that was very good) but because I was terrified for the motorcycle rider. I am soooo glad he is okay. How absolutely horrifying to witness an accident like that. Reminds me to stay aware while driving, that anything can happen.
What a day! That would scare me to death if that had happened. Good job keeping your cool.
This is awful, I'm so glad you're ok, and the motorcyclist, too, obviously. I agree with fernvalley, it is your sensible driving that saved the day. Hope it doesn't stay with you for too long.
I can see why that scared you--crazy. He's so lucky to be alive.
Holy smokes. With how much time I spend on the road, I am so grateful I haven't seen more accidents like this one.
your guardian angel is awesome! as is that idiot on the bike's...cute boots!
Good job of avoiding the biker. Scary. Things can happen so fast. Glad no one got hurt badly. Your guardian anges was watching over you. Like your boots.

The motercycles that go between the lanes of cars really piss me off! Those are the ones that are gonna get killed someday and it will probably be blamed on the car!
Do love the new boots...a cowgirl can never have too many pair!
Scary, glad everyone is ok. Cute boots!
Wow!!! Before I got married I dated a guy with a Harley. One time we had a flat (front) tire, and the bike went all squirrelly out of control -- maybe that was part of why/how the guy ended up in the oncoming lane. At any rate, very scary, and very lucky for you that you did not hit him. I hope he is going to be OK...
John & Regina~ The motorcycle was actually parked on the side of the road when I first saw him, he said he had a flat tire, stopped on the shoulder then decided to cross the freeway to get to the other side, that is how he ended up crossing in front of me and the other driver who hit him.
He actually was given a ticket for having faulty equipment on his motorcycle. It was in the paper today. Apparently his tires were so worn down that the steel cords were showing. So he shouldn't have even been driving that motorcycle at all!
I am so glad everyone is okay. I would have been so scared. He not only could have ruined his life, but everyone involved.HUGS!
Wow, Paint Girl I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you. I know how scary it is to witness something like that - I saw 2 bikes get hit by a car a couple of years ago and unfortunately the 3 bikers died right in front of me. I still have PTSD when I see bikers on the road. I am so glad that everyone survived and that it wasn't worse. Hope you were able to put it aside and enjoy your evening.
If you had stayed home everything would have been different on the freeway and the man may have been killed. Your being there perhaps saved his life.
My Pro Babies are my all time favorite boots!! I love, love, love them!
That's one of those experiences you never forget. I have a deep-seated fear of hitting pedestrians, because I saw a little boy get hit and killed years ago. I'd hate to live with that kind of guilt too. Even when you know it's not your fault and you weren't doing anything wrong, you still feel guilt.
Glad you were okay! It's a scary situation, I have seen so many bad wrecks, one involving a motorcycle (but the ride was sitting up on the curb afterward.) Like Nuzz Muzz I fear hitting pedestrians because I have had them run across a 4 lane hwy in front of me- what is up with that? My car is not wearing a invisibility cloak!
OH MY GAWD PAINT GIRL! That is quite the scary experience! Thank goodness it was not worse than it was! The motorcycle guy! The 21/2 month old baby! The other people! That is very scary indeed. Good thing your car had good brakes and you did not have bald tires!!
as for your new boots, won't your oh see them in your blog? He might say HEY! I SEE THOSE BOOTS, BABY!! YOU CANNOT HIDE COOL NEW BABY BLUE BOOTS FROM ME!!!!
So glad that you are ok. Love the boots!!
I'm a cautious driver just like you....it amazes me that I see so many people doing different things when driving. The worse one was a girl tweezing her eyebrows! I'm sure there's a good reason why you (and the people driving the car) were the eye witnesses (someone honest and not wanting to take advantage of the situation in this day and age. Glad everything worked out and I'd say you had a couple of huge angels tagging along with you. A friend of mine said she prays for her husband everyday who is a cop and she actually saw a HUGE angel laying spread out over on top of his cop car when he left the house one morning....pretty cool to think some have that kind of protection who believe....sounds like the motorcycle driver did too, he should not be alive....even if he did make a dumb mistake. Glad it all turned out so well for everyone. You were one who got to witness a miracle first hand!
Yikes! Too close for comfort, that's for sure.
Luv the boots!
