Come On Weather, I Mean Seriously... It's May, Not November!

My 2 days off didn't go quite like I had planned, but I guess not everything goes as planned, at least not in my crazy part of the world. On Sunday I had big horsey plans. I was going to work with Chance, then ride one of my other horses. But with my neck injury, I decided I would only work Chance and skip riding. Speaking of my neck, it is doing a lot better. I have a nasty bruise behind my ear, but it feels so much better, thank you all for your sweet get well wishes! You guys never cease to amaze me!

Once my sister got here, we decided to go get hay and grain first. It started to sprinkle so we wanted to get the hay home before it really started to rain. Once home, I went to get Chance. She was a little stinker. I have been working on her not rushing through the gate, so we stop and stand once the gate is open, once she is relaxed and quiet, we walk through the gate. We had to go through mud and mud puddles to get down to the house. She went to jump the first mud puddle and took off running. The lead rope almost slipped through my hand, but I was holding on for dear life and managed to get her stopped. I was not happy. We ended up doing mud puddle lessons for around 20 minutes until she walked through them without jumping on me, jumping at me and trying to run away. The rain was really coming down at this point and we were both soaking wet. I get her to the house and she did really well tying down there, probably helped that my sister had her boy there too. She actually picked up all four feet without trying to pull one away, that is the first time she has done that. I took her to the arena for a lunging lesson, which went well. After lunging we worked on backing and she somehow forgot how to back. So I had to spend some time reminding her. (She didn't actually forget, she was just being a real stinker that day.) I also did some clipper desensitizing and dewormed her. I was cold and wet and so done. Most of the lesson was spent working on mud puddles and leading. Not exactly what I had in mind, but it has to be done. I put her away and would try again the next day.................or maybe not.

I knew a wind storm was going to hit our area on Monday. But never realized how bad. When I woke up, it was extremely windy. I had just put a load of laundry in and right before I was going to turn the washer on, the power went out. 11:00 a.m. Great. I figured we would be without power for a few hours, that is usually how long it takes for the power company to get it back on. My OH went and hooked up the generator before he left for work. Since he is on night shifts now and in case the power didn't come back on, at least I would have some power. I was able to watch t.v. and that is about it. The generator only powers so much, and unfortunately it does not power the room my computer is in, and I don't have a laptop. We are able to power a light in the living room, the t.v., the fish tanks, the freezer in the garage and garage lights/door, the fridge in the house, and the master bath lights. I believe that is all that can go on generator power, but not all at the same time. So we have to pick and choose a couple things at a time.

I decided to brave the winds and headed out to the horse pasture's. I wanted to make sure that the fence lines were clear of branches and trees. These two girls don't seem to mind how hard the wind is blowing. They were attempting to sunbathe, I mean it was a beautiful sunny day, but the winds made it quite chilly.

Trees standing up.....

Trees bending over..........

Can I have a kiss?

Please?!?

I am sorry, I didn't mean to be a stinker yesterday! Can I have my kiss now?

Come on, I know you can't resist giving this face a kiss!!!

Around 3:30 p.m. the power came back on. Yeah! I went and turned the generator off. 3:45 p.m. the power went out again. Darn! Back out I go to restart the generator. Come on weather! Using a generator in May? That is unheard of!

6:00 p.m. Still no power. I decided to order a pizza for dinner.

6:30 p.m. The cable goes out. So I now have no t.v., no computer, only one light in the living room and I am bored out of my mind. Can you tell? I must be if I am taking a picture of my Dakota monkey from the outside!

6:45 p.m. The phone rings.
Me: Hello?
Pizza Guy: Hi, this is the driver for the pizza company, and I am almost to your house, but there is a tree down blocking the whole road, can you walk down and meet me?
Me: What? Where are you?
Pizza Guy: Well I am at this address, and I think you are pretty close to where I am at, can you meet me to pick up your pizza?
Me: Are you on my street? Can you see a white picket fence on the left?
Pizza Guy: The white picket fence is about a football field away.
Me: Then I'll drive down to meet you and pick up my pizza.

So, he wanted me to walk down to pick up my pizza. If I would have walked, by the time I got to him, gotten my pizza and walked back to my house, my pizza would have been cold. Driving was way easier. Also I got to see the tree that took out the power lines that caused me to not have any power!

9:00 p.m. I am getting really grouchy. Still no power and have I mentioned yet how bored I am?

12:00 a.m. Bedtime. Set cell phone alarm since I still have no power.

6:45 a.m. Alarm goes off, still no power. No hot shower and I am freezing my butt off.

1:00 p.m. I call my OH to see if the power had been restored yet. Nope. Still out. Lovely. Although my OH did call the power company to see if they had any idea when we might get our power back. They were hoping today sometime. Great.

5:30 p.m. Driving down my road and see the power company working on the lines, Yeah!!

5:45 p.m. Go feed the horses and dogs. Nasty rain and cold. I can't feel my hands by the time I get back to the house.

6:45 p.m. It's a miracle! The lights have finally come on! I don't think I have ever been happier to see lights!

31 1/2 hours with no power. I don't think I could handle the good ole days when there wasn't any electricity.

What a crazy day you had!! Wind and rain are two things I really don't care for.

Glad to hear your neck wasn't hurt more seriously.

Holy smokes... that is a long time without power. I'm a reader so I wouldn't have been too bored. Pie on the other hand, he'd have gone crazy! lol

Oh Heavens I'm not sure I'd last that long!! That is ridiculous!! Sorry to hear that you didn't get all you wanted one with the horses! But any lesson with Chance pays off in the long run, even if it's not the one you planned!!

Glad your neck is feeling better! I was worried about you!!

Goodness, what a wild weekend, especially if your neck was still sore.
1. I would have to kiss Chance in those pics, she is so sweet.
2. That pizza looks gorgeous and has made me really hungry!

We lost power for about 5 days when the whole eastern grid went out about 6 years ago. I had to shower in the runoff from the roof and we were bringing buckets of water up from the lake to flush the toilets. We didn't have a generator back then but I did have two very bored 7 year old kids!! Talk about a hardship...at least you could order a pizza!

Ahah thats why you have storm lamps. The power goes out here but the longest it's been out is an afternoon when we had the big blackout.

We were without power for 10 days after an historic ice storm in Jan 2009. We were snowbound for a week. No cell phone, no electricity nothing! Luckily we live in a basement house and were able to maintain our heat by layering clothing. It was a nightmare! My husband had to drive the lawnmower w/the water trough to our neighbor's house to get water for the horses. But all in all we were the lucky ones.

I'm surprised you braved the cold shower. I would have just kept applying the deodorant and avoided the water. What a bummer. Spring is the one time of year when we desperately need a vacation, because there aren't many holidays, yet its the most unpredictable time of year when it comes to the weather. In the past I swore I would wait until summer so that bad weather couldn't ruin my vacation, but this year I fixed that by traveling to a warmer climate (Scottsdale in February) and got lucky in April when I just happened to choose the few good days of sunshine a month in advance. I'd like to know how I pulled off that trick. I really impressed myself. Hopefully, your next vacation will be more cooperative.

Wow! That's a long time with no power. Lukcy thing that you've got a generator. We've never been without powere here at this house. I suppose that's because 1)All our electric lines are under ground, and 2)We don't have any tall trees to knock any poles down anyway. lol!
We had that horrible wind, too...and hail...and snow. At least you didn't have those last two things. They truly do belong in November and not May!

Maybe you should keep a stack of good books to read just in case your power goes out again?

Good for you finding time to work with Chance, even if you weren't working on what you had planned. Seems like with a baby, that training happens all the time and it's always a good idea to just work on whatever is important at the moment, like you did. :)

Argh. We didn't lose power (this time). Remember a few winters ago when everybody lost power for days? We moved into the camper in the yard for the whole time. Lights, heat, water. We ended up having an extended poker tournament before the power in the house went back on, and I probably read a dozen books. The worst part was that we couldn't GO anywhere because the roads were so bad...hooray for your pizza truck!

The *W* word - shudder. I'll take ANYTHING but the wind. Hate it. And it's gusting now like a hurricane. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

That is horrible weather and luck with your power. I can't live without hot water - hot showers!!! Poor you. At least you had a tiny little Chance face to kiss you up and brighten your day. Glad all is back to normal. I hope you get nice weather soon.

I'm with you: I'm no pioneer woman. I am seriously cranky when I can't have a shower. Glad it all got back to normal, and hey, how sweet that your mustang was being a sweetie after being such a stinker.

Glad your neck is feeling better.

Happy to hear your neck is doing better! But, I'm with ya on being cold and miserable, no thanks... I liked your pics. of Chance and the others!

We lose power all the time and sometimes for a while. In the winter we are thankful for the woodstove. The real challenge is not having water! There is nothing worse than having to get up and not be able to take a shower. I am not one of those people who can wake up or feel like I look presentable without hot water. This coming winter we are going to get a generator. So I had my husband come and look at that picture in your blog of yours! Isn't that funny? That cracks me up! I said Come and look at Paint Girl's generator!! I hope the weather gets warmer for you! Wind and rain are no fun, especially if you have horses! I also laughed at your pizza picture. My husband said THAT LOOKS GOOOOOD! I am so glad that your wounds are healing. You are very sturdy Paint Girl.

Your wind hit Nebraska yesterday! Our ride was miserable & we about got hit by a tree that snapped! What is with this weather! I have had enough, too!

We are having big winds here today and tomorrow we are getting a hard frost. We will have to cover our tomato plants and other tender plants. so far we still have power, good!
We lose our power a lot out here and we have a huge generator that will run the whole house, yea! The longest we were without power was in 1998, hadn't lived here a year yet and huge storm ripped through, no power for 7 days! No phone either, we didn't have the big generator then just a small one, had to alternate what was running and what was off. It was interesting! I thought a lot about what it must have been like for my grandmother, who was born in 1888. I suppose I could live like that if I had to but.....I don't want to! LOL
Glad you are feeling better!!! Babies will be stinkers from time to time, but you gotta love that little stinker you have. She is one cutie!!!!

Hey there from Oz - I have been a bad blog visitor lately. So nice to see you still going strong over here - even if it IS without the comforts of power. I sometimes wonder if we are just too reliant on it - I know I am!!

Glad you are recovering well from your neck injury.

Hugs
