Construction Central

I am so ready for this construction to end! BUT, one part is finally complete! We are about half way there until the remodel is done. It has been really hard living with the house torn apart. There were days when we couldn't go down the hall, so when we had to use the bathroom we had to go out the back door that's in the living room and go into our bedroom door. We had to do the same when it was time for bed. We didn't have a kitchen for 2 weeks. We ate out, had food delivered or went to friends for dinner. When the installer demo'd the old carpet and vinyl flooring, it created an inch of dust throughout the entire house. It was gross.

The carpet gets installed in 2 weeks, but they have to demo the old living room carpet and sub-floor, as well as the hall and bedrooms. That will create just as much dust as before. Kinda funny that I just cleaned everything top to bottom and I will have to do it again in a couple weeks. I suppose I should have an extremely clean house by the time this is all said and done. They counter guys came out this morning and did the template for our counter top. I find out tomorrow when they will install the counter top. It is slowly coming together, just not soon enough. But I am happy it's getting done. And I keep telling myself that when it is done, it will be soooo worth it!

The cats are still adapting quite well. They were locked up in our bedroom for a week and a half and they kept me up all night. Sleepless nights were not good for me. Then they had to be moved into the guest room so the tile installer could do our bedroom entry slate (the door that goes outside). The cats showed their unhappiness by trying to rip the door down............ but they have been set free......for now.

So I am sure you all would like to see how I have been living and the results? Well, here goes!

I will start with a "before" picture that was taken right after the old floors were demo'd, then show you an "after" picture of the same area once the slate was installed and enhanced.

Dining room "before"...........

Dining room "after"..............

Woodstove "before".............

Woodstove "after"...............

Kitchen "before".............

Kitchen "after".............

"You know your a redneck when your fridge is in the living room!"

Front entry "before".................

Front entry "after"................

Living room "before"................

Living room "after"....................

Laundry room "after"...............

Front entry looking into kitchen "after"................

And I'm not the only one that has been really sleepy................except I don't just crawl into anything and go to sleep.........although I probably could.

I just love how the slate turned out. The colors are fantastic and I can't wait to start moving my stuff back in, but that will have to wait until the carpet is installed. I have so many decorating ideas going around in my head and since the floors are very neutral, I will be adding "pops" of color throughout. Still deciding on the "pops" of color, but I am thinking turquoise or maybe red. We will see. So many possibilities!!

Looks good! I would love to redo our flooring, our whole house is linoleum and old. We redone one bedroom and the bathroom after they flooded and now Im trying to convince hubby to do the rest.

It's so pretty. Is your Dad going to do the counters for you? I am sure you will be thrilled when it's all done and you don;t have the mess any more and installers in and out of your house!

Mom~ I will do a western theme but not go over the top!

Sares~ My dad will do the back splash in the kitchen and 1/2 bath counter. He's not doing the kitchen counter because we are doing quartz and he doesn't do that! I can't wait for it all to be done. It's going to look so pretty!!

I LOVE your floor!! The colours are great, it looks modern but not that 'cold modern'. Also it doesn't look like the kinda modern that will look dated in just a few years.

My! What a lot of work has been going on around there. Interesting tile colors and patterns. Reminds me of a calico cat. Speaking of cat, Madison is adorable!

omgosh! stunning floors. i want them! i agree with cdncowgirl - they are timeless - they will look good forever.

our house is ripped apart right now (not as much as yours) and it's driving me crazy - i have to jump over holes in the floor where the pipes had to go in. and two complete dooors are missing. and two holes in the wall were just patched but i doubt we'll be able to match the texture so they may always look crappy. i just want floors and doors back!
next up we have to remodel the bathroom but what i really dread is when we have to do the kitchen. after reading your blog i know i am gonna be really frustrated without a kitchen.

i'm totally impressed with your floor, i have never seen a pretier floor - what great taste you have.

Your floors are really gorgeous! I went through a bit of a mini reno in July, repainted the whole house inside and resided and repainted the outside, then had the carpets cleaned. It went pretty fast, 10 days, 3 crews, but while it was going on it was pretty awful. I guess you could call it controlled chaos. I am sure you're going to be glad when it's over...(understatement)

So great looking! Enjoy your "new" house. It is so worth all the effort. Adorable kitty sleeping on the plastic.

Wow - it looks really good! The mess will all be worth it in the end... Everything will be clean and new and you won't have to renovate anything for years! :-) The slate tile looks fantastic.

I use red as pop in the pnw and turquoise in the desert! Either would work... But I think the turquoise would be the best! It's looking great!

LOVE IT!!! That flooring is beautiful! I really like your kitchen. I can relate what you are going thru -- we built our house and had to move in before it was 100% finished....
It is going to be so worth it. Your place looks great!!!

You are right--that slate is fantastic! I also love those earthy colors you chose. They have just the exact right of warmth to them. Slate can run cold but this looks as comfy and welcoming as the day is long!!!! is their light at the end of this construction tunnel??? I hope so. Funny how your last picture reveals that some "people" are pretty good at making lemonade out of lemons!!!!
