I LOVE This Horse! Part Two

After I had jumped on Chance, I decided to take her on another trail ride. I want to get her out in the woods as much as possible. Since my OH still had the camera, I was excited to get pictures of us in the woods. We headed out to the property line trail that takes us onto our neighbors wooded trails.

I have only walked Chance on these trails once and she did great. So I was interested in seeing how well she did this time. These trails are really nice and wide. Plus my neighbor has interesting obstacles out there that make great desensitization tools. Here we ran into a garbage pile that neighbor J will eventually burn. Chance approached the burn pile very cautiously. But she was not scared of it. I just stood back and let her approach it and she got right up to the pile and sniffed it out.

A little further along the trail we came across numerous barrels. This was a different section of the trail that we did not take the last time. Again she just approached it very cautiously and walked right up to the barrel. She didn't spook, nor did she over react.

We walked by the forts without any problems. These trails are very similar to the ones we ride on, except for the forts and garbage!

She only spooked once, and that is when Sadie realized we left the arena and came sniffing us out at the neighbors. She came up behind us and my OH and I did not hear her coming, but Chance did and she jumped and turned around really quick. That is when we saw Sadie. It is good for her to have all this happen. It will get her ready for when she goes on a real trail ride! We had a great trail ride and headed back to our property and to the lush, green grass for some grazing.

This area of grass is right outside my arena and it is total horse heaven!

One of these days we will fence in this area of our property so we can have another pasture for rotation.

It was a great day and my Mustang just keeps getting better and better!

In other news:

Brandy update~ She is still lame, but she does look better. I have a phone call into my farrier and haven't heard back from him yet. I did talk to the farrier at work and he said it basically is a matter of time for that area to heal and toughen up. We had another couple days of torrential rainfall, so any drying that the pasture had started turned right back into mud.

I had another go-round of bad luck last week when I noticed that Fritzy was having a hard time getting her head down to eat. Something just did not look right, so I got her out and noticed right away she had this huge swelling on the left side of her neck. She had vaccinations done 3 weeks before this swelling, so not sure if it's a reaction to that or not. The vet is having me use Surpass on the swelling and it has gone down some. The vet also said that these swellings can take awhile to go down. I just hope this is the end of my horse troubles. The weather is just starting to warm up and I would really like to have a horse to ride!

Hooray for Chance!!! You got lucky with this special girl. I love reading updates on her.

I'm amazed at that grass. I've not seen grass that tall and that green, since I can't even remember. Lucky horses you've got there.

I hope that Brandy and Fritz heal quickly and soon and your weather dries up a little.

You have done such a nice job with Chance. It's great that she seems to have such a good head on her young shoulders...but so much of that is due to your excellent handling of her.

You ride on trails like those?! I'm so jealous!! :)

Its kinda funny, Chance seems way bigger in the pics where you're leading her than in the pic where you're facing her. She's looking really good though!

And WOW grass... that is horse heaven.

Hope your girls both heal up soon.

Chance is coming along great! Seems like she really is trusting in you. Won't be long before you're out there riding on the trails :)
Hope your other horses get better soon. When it rains it pours, lol. It will get better!

Those trails look really nice! I love the giant ferns - it looks like jurassic park! :-)

Chance is a total star - she is going to be a great riding horse for you when she is ready.

Hope the other 2 heal up quickly...

She's doing beautifully! What a great lil' horse she's going to be for you!! I liked the part when she spooked that she turned and faced instead of bolting away...perfect!

Chance sure is a smart girl.
That will take time to heal on Brandy. Indigo did basically the same thing just before I came back from school. The part of her frog just tore off the other day and already shes stepping better and it was looking better when I did a one over on her foot with the rasp and hoof knife today.
Also this year the bee's are TERRIBLE I've had a few horses at barns get stung really hard and get ouchy swellings on various parts of their bodies, like their neck and be unable to bend.

Paint Girl, I am so happy for you and Chance! Your woods look so wild and huge and awesome! Are those cedar trees? It must be so cool to go riding in that kind of forest. I am glad Chance is looking so good and unfazed by the barrels and other weird stuff! She will be a good trail horse!

It's true, Chance looks so big when you are both walking away. She's looking great, BTW. What color do you call her? She looks a lot like Yalla! except for Chance's reddish mane and forelock. Yalla's is all black. Does Chance have a dorsal stripe?

That sounds so exciting that she was so well behaved out on the trails with you. I'll bet you can't wait to start riding her. I'm so sorry to read about Brandy and now Fritzi. I sure hope they heal up quickly.

cdncowgirl & Fantastyk Voyager~ That picture of me and Chance by the burn pile is deceiving. Chance looks really small, but the ground was higher where I was standing and Chance was in a dip. I thought the same thing when I looked at it!! But she really is bigger then the picture makes her look!
I have no idea what color to call her. My vet didn't even know what color to call her! And yes, Chance does have a dorsal stripe!

A walking trail ride is an excellent idea! I do that with mine, too, and I think it's wonderful preparation for the real thing!! She looks great and she's going to make you an awesome trail horse, Paint Girl!!!

I spotted Beamer's new adopter's blog the other day, and she is now under saddle. Such good little mustangs :)
