I'm Going To Scottsdale!

I knew when I took the job at the Arabian show barn, that I could potentially be doing some traveling to horse shows. At that time though, the other groom always went to the shows. I was fine staying at home and taking care of the horses that didn't go to the shows. Well, there is something I haven't told you guys yet. That other groom quit and she has been gone since right before Christmas. So it has been just me. It has been crazy busy and I have been extremely exhausted when I get home. The other girl that was working with the 2 yr olds is now helping the halter trainer school the babies for halter, and she has become very unreliable. She has been calling in sick at least once a week for the last 6 weeks. Which makes me have to take on even more then before. The farm hired a young guy to come in and saddle break the 2 yr olds. Well, he has also become unreliable, didn't show up twice last week, no phone call, nothing. So frustrating.

I won't even get into unreliable and irresponsible people, because I could rant about that for days and days. What I will say is that this girl, who wants to become a horse trainer someday, better grow up and re-think her priorities. She is working under a very well known, respected, high caliber Arabian horse trainer and if she screws this up, she just better forget ever getting a job at another Arabian facility. She had a chance with another trainer before she started here, and apparently blew it there too.

So, enough of the bad stuff. Last week my barn manager/trainer asked me if I could go to Scottsdale. I said "Of course!". He said he'd get back to me because he was still trying to decide between the new, young guy and me. I know he would prefer me, because I am such a hard worker, but he would only want the new guy to go because he can do a lot of the heavy lifting etc. Well, later that day, my boss said to a client that I might be going to Scottsdale. Well, then yesterday my sister was up visiting me at the farm, and got to see some horses being ridden, my boss asks me "Are you excited to go to Scottsdale?" so you see, he already knew he wanted to take me. And not to brag or anything, but why wouldn't he? I work so hard and I think I deserve a chance! We are taking 14 horses, and between the assistant trainer and myself, we should be able to handle the job. The assistant trainer is also very excited that I am going!

Now what is really cool, is that I have never been to Arizona. I mean, I actually will get to see those Saguaro's!! I am also really hoping the weather is really nice, anything is better then this cold and rain we have here. From what I have heard is that past shows in Scottsdale have been in the 70's and 80's. Yeah!! That means I can wear tank tops!

The other really cool thing is I have never been to this big of a horse show before. Even though I will be working the whole time, and I doubt I will get to see any of the classes, well, maybe some, I think the experience is going to be amazing. I will have to learn so much more, but I know I can do it. I also know that it will be crazy busy, and I won't have time for sightseeing. This also means I won't be able to blog for a couple weeks. If I had time, I would get some posts done in advance, but I won't have time for that. I already have been putting in long work days again, and the closer it gets to leaving for Scottsdale, the crazier it will be.

My OH is already planning his meals while I am away. He is also starting to get a little worried. He asked me
"Who is going to do my laundry?", well OH, you are! I told him that he will have to learn how to fold his own clothes for once! He already feeds the animals, so I am not worried about them. I will miss them though. I am sure my OH will send me plenty of picture's.

I also get to start riding this week. I will be ponying the Scottsdale horses to get them used to being right next to another horse, being crowded into the arena wall, etc. Some of these horses have never been shown before, so the more that we can do to get them used to showing, the better!

Do I have any blogger friends that will be showing in Scottsdale? Have any of you been to the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show?

Hooo-Raayyyy!

Soooo...I was thinking that I would like to head down to Scottsdale for a long weekend....to see friends and partake of the Arabian Show. Meg and I used to go at least a couple of days every year that we lived there.

Are you guys going to be there the whole time? If not...when are you going to be there and I will make sure to come THEN.

Would love to get to meet you. And then, if by chance you have any free time(with 14 horses maybe not?), we I could show you around.

Email me...fast_draw45 at live.com. We'll make plans.;)

OH.MY.GOSH. What a dream!!! I am SOOOOO jealous! I was in AZ about a week before the show last year & was bummed that I missed it. I've spent a lot of time in AZ...you will LOVE it!! A good dose of vitamin D in the winter...can't get much better than that! Oh, and if it involves horses (namely GORGEOUS ARABIANS) even BETTER!!! I am SO excited for you!!!

oh wow - I'm out of it. Left you a comment and forgot I wasn't signed in until AFTER I left the page.
Sooo... High 5 for the recognition at work!! Scottsdale is a pretty big deal. Not too surprising that you got picked to go, you're a hard worker and obviously have WAY more work ethic than the others.
IF you have time try to get some pics to share. Showring stuff, "behind the scenes" stuff. Heh heh, maybe your sis could go as the barn's photojournalist!
Try to get some rest, sounds like you're in for a crazy few weeks!!

ps - love the new look :)

WOW! I am so proud of you sweetie girl! You have proven you are a hard worker and commited to your job, and love what you are doing. The OH will probably really miss you. Congratulations! Kisses and hugs! The header is wonderful. Love the white background. It looks very professsional!!!

Congratulations Cousin! I am sure you are so very excited. Do you have to fly or do you drive down with the horses? I know flying isn't your favorite thing. I like the new look to the blog and the header! Congratulations again and have a terrific week!

Oh wow! I am so happy and excited for you! But I'm not surprised at all. You deserve to go being such a hard worker and so dependable.
You'll keep all those horses in line. lol! Just be careful, ok? And try to take good care of yourself, too.

Oooh! I'd love to drive over from New Mexico to watch the Arabian and show and to at least say Hello and meet you, if even just for a few minutes as I know you'll be busy.
Maybe you could let me know when you'll be there and how we could meet up, exchange cell phone #'s, too.

I'm so proud of you!!!

Be prepared,

What a great opportunity & reward for your hard work! Yes, I could rant with you about those who don't take employment seriously. Have a great time! Enjoy the sunshine!

We all knew you would be moving up with this job!!! When are you going? there is a strom front...we have dark clouds now and expect this kind of weather all week! Should gett rain too! Phoenix has about the same weather as we do here in the desert! Congrats!

Every year I promise my mother I'll take her to Scottsdale, and every year my employer won't let me go. At least you've got an employer who won't not let you go, since it's a part of your job. I can totally relate to having the flaky coworkers, though. They call in sick or disappear, and their entire work load ends up in your lap.

you are going to LOVE IT!!!!! I was a barn manager at a arabian barn for 3 years in oregon and my boss took me scottsdale every year and I loved it. It is a whole different world. Amazing and the weather is usually prity nice. You are going to love this opportunity. It is a very large facility so you will want good boots or shoes as a lot of walking:) I loved the arabian world and miss it dearly. Maybe someday I will get back into it. and yes sadly it is so common in that field to have flakey people as they don't really know what hard work is when they get into it. It is a hard work and takes a lot of flexibility and commitment. You will love it and hopefully you will also get to go to nationals someday. That is the crem dela crem:)

How cool - you'll love it! I prefer the big Quarter Horse Show down there of course - but have friends that try to head down there with their Arabs every year. I know its not why you are going - but the shopping is to die for! Plus you'll love the warm weather. Keep us all posted!

BEC & Lisa~ I would love to meet you guys!! I will shoot an email to you later today!

Sares~ We drive down. We haul a 9-horse and 6-horse trailer down there. I will probably have to do some driving!

I have exhibited horses at Scottdale. This is probably going to blow your mind! This is the glitz and glamour show. As was said, bring very comfortable shoes and make sure to pack some warm clothes. Sometimes the show has been cold and rainy, so be prepared just in case. You will get an eyeful, I guarantee it. I don't know what state you are in, so I can't venture a guess as to who you work for. : )

I've been out of the Arabian show circuit since 2005, after a couple of decades. I will be very interested in your take.

How exciting!! I have heard that the Scottsdale show is the big daddy of them all, in the Arabian show world! You will have a blast. Even though you are working! You will still get to see a lot!

I've worked at the QH Congress and it was a blast! I know you are going to have so much fun!! Congrats!

What an amazing opportunity for you. I think I remember seeing in one of your sister's blogs that you were practicing pulling a trailer. Probably a good thing... :)
Congratulations, and have fun!!

You will definitely like the warmer weather there, I used to live out there 2 lifetimes ago.

Paint Girl, OF COURSE that guy wants you to go to Arizona. You probably are the best groom he has seen in years! Especially with all that other lame help he hired!! He hit the jackpot with you--you are one hot arabian training ticket!! While you are gone, maybe your OH will relax as he freely avoids potato salad or bacon and eggs for dinner! I will miss your blog posts a lot! But I cannot wait to hear about your adventures in the southwest. I hope you will be able to sneak a few pictures in and post them when you get back...

I've been to see the show a couple of times, and for this non-show person I walked around with my mouth hanging open at the visual bombardment. you'll have a great experience, though I reckon you won't get much sleep - 14 horses!
Arizona's cool too, and not just the weather. have fun!
