Chance measures 13.1 hh at the wither and 13.3 1/2 hh at the butt. I turned the measuring stick around so you all could see it, isn't it cool? Please excuse my OH's picture taking, he seemed to have forgotten how to use the camera.

Then I lunged her as usual. The round pen was a little slippery in spots with a few mud puddles, so it made lunging a little difficult. I just did some light lunging and worked on walk and trot voice commands. She really picked up the walk command. I was very proud of her. She picked up the whoa command so quickly months ago, that the second that word comes out of my mouth, she stops immediately, even if she is having a "moment", which she is having less of. So I figured she would pick up the other voice commands just as quick.

Before you know it, the clouds opened up and it started to rain. Great. I think every day off I have, it rains. I mean, I have only been on one trail ride this whole year! Chance kept swerving around the mud puddles and slick spots.

Chance lunging perfectly. Look at her mane fly! Her mane is getting so long. I just love it!

It always makes me laugh when I go through the pictures on my camera after my OH uses it. Looks like he got distracted while I was lunging Chance and decided to take pictures of the planes overhead. Silly! He should have zoomed in though.

I have only two real challenges with Chance. One is clipper training and the other is mud puddles. Since my round pen had a few mud puddles, we decided to do mud puddle training. She will not walk through puddles at all, which doesn't surprise me. A lot of horses don't care for them. But what really makes no sense to me is that she will wade through her "ditch" that is full of water and I mean literally almost up to her knees in muddy water, but mud puddles? No way! So we spent some time working on that. I could get her up to the edge and she would plant her feet and refuse to budge. At least she isn't overreacting like she used too, when she would rear and throw a huge fit. Now she just stands there and just won't move.
"Come on Chance, you can do it! Just one more step!"

There we go!! I think it took us maybe 15 minutes to get her front feet in, then it was time to go for all 4!

This was not the easiest thing to do, Chance DID NOT want to go into that puddle. I would have to send her off on my 12' line, then bring her back to rest by the puddle, send her off, rest by the puddle. She finally realized that the puddle was a good thing, that she got to rest by the puddle, that it wasn't going to swallow her up and eat her. I got her to stop and stand quietly in the puddle, then we walked through it and I called it a day on puddle training. Oh, and you should see my round pen now. It is literally a lake. I could swim in it. Really.

Clipping is still an issue. She did better with her muzzle, and I can run the clippers all over her head and neck without any problems. But she still does not like it when I start to clip her bridle path. So we are still slowly working on that. I look really grouchy, probably because I was really grouchy. This rain that won't stop is really making me be a grump. Seriously. I don't get this way, but I have totally had it. I am up to my eyeballs in mud and water, and it's the 2nd week of June!

Then it was time to de-worm. She is a pro at de-worming. Never been a problem. I just put one hand over her nose to hold her head, stick the tube in her mouth and push the paste in, easy!

We had one nice day this week, yesterday. Then the rain moved back in last night and it would not stop, again! When I got off work, I had to go to my oil change place, because they installed my rear windshield wiper incorrectly. Actually I am not even sure what they did, but it looked like they broke it. The arm was sticking out and it wouldn't go down into the little holder thing that holds it in place when not using the wiper. So as I was heading out of the little town I work in, this is what I see. Oh goodness. I was heading right into another dimension. The clouds were a light gray where I was and then they turned extremely dark. I just had to get my cell phone out and take a picture. I don't think I have ever seen clouds so dark here before.

I was a little scared of what I might be driving into. We don't get tornado's here, but I sure felt like one was going to appear at any moment.

I almost felt like I was in Kansas.

Before you know it, the dark clouds disappeared and the sky went back to the normal, gray, rain clouds.
I am at another horse show for the next 4 days. This one is local, so it's only a 45 minute drive and I will get to come home and sleep in my own bed. Yeah! But the days will be really long, so I might not be able to come visit you all until next week. So I'll catch up with you all then!

have a great week! I SO hope the weather turns around... it feels like October here!
I totally love reading about Chance's progress!! She is such an amazing little mustang!! OK well not so little anymore LOL!!! I feel your pain with the weather! We had it for a few straight weeks, and since I am in KS it was many days spent in the basement! One of which was particularly scary, it was just me and DD, J was still at school and the Hubby was driving home. There were funnel clouds and reports of touchdowns within a few miles of my house then all of the sudden my power banged and went out...Yeah I thought we were goners! But praise God we were spared!
Hope things get better weather wise there!! Good luck at the shows!
Chance is looking great. I love that photo with her mane flying.
And please send us some rain. This place looks sub-Saharan.
Chance is looking good - good for you for working with her despite the rain and mud!
Ugh, it's been rainy in Michigan too. It's so frusturating, isn't it? Those were some scary dark clouds....they were probably heading off to the midwest, because we had some crazy Tornado weather last week...sigh! Enough of my Debbie Downer comment though ;).
Despite the gloom, Chance looks adorable. My favorite pic is the one where you two are standing side by side with the stick. So cute how her face is just right up there in the camera.
I hope you have a great RAIN FREE show this time. Can't wait for your post about it.
Have fun at the show and remember to eat! Chance is turning into a real beauty!
Lovely pics, and I can identify with Chance now, as I thought she was about 14 hands, but if she is 13.1, so is our little pony, and he's quite dinky (but fully grown). I am glad to see you are taking things slowly with Chance, she is so young. And well done on the worming, Max hated it and used to rear up at us!
So good to hear from you, Paint Girl! Chance has really grown and she looks quite pretty. Good job! :)
Our weather is terrible this year, isn't it??? I lived in Illinois until I was 14, and I am with you...our skies have looked like a tornado will drop down at any minute.
Have fun at your show!
The rain does get tiring. We have had lots finally and I don't want to complain but yeesh! it would be nice to have a little sunshine!Hope the show goes well
Those clouds do look tornadic in nature! Yikes!
I was just thinking how much you probably benefit from having those muck boots and rain gear. I probably only use my muck boots (and they aren't even as hard core as yours) for a few weeks during the winter and maybe a day or two in the summer.
Our rain dries up so fast if we get any.
Seriously it hasn't even rained since last summer! Our last real moisture was our last snowfall.
Our grass has stopped growing and starting to dry up. I'm grateful for the sunshine every day and the blue skies, but we've had abnormal heat up into the 90's, which is way too hot for us folks with no A/C! lol!
I wish we could have some of your rain. I'd be happy to share our sunshine with you. It seems to be all our nothing in the weather department.
I love that first photo of you and Chance with the stick. lol! Her head looks huge! Interesting perspective.
And yes, you do look grouchy. I'd be grouchy, too, with all that rain!
Oh! And Chance's bootie sure has developed. She's looking strong and solid!
Lovely flowing mane, too!

Great progress!, I hear ya on the rain business.........We have the same crappy weather patterns, Hot/cold......Rainy, humid! Makes it hard to get anything done! She is the cutest little filly!
That does look really slippery. I now how frustrating it is to only get a little bit of time off from work and then have something that is out of your control, like the weather, ruin your ability to work with your horses. That picture through the window of the red barn and the clouds is awesome!
EE gads the weather has been horrible. We had 4 or so deluges yesturday it rained so hard! The pasture is flooded again. At least they were before I let the horses out for the afternoon. This weekend looks great though! Hubby and I are going to Lincoln City and Newport for our 20th anniversary! Its suposed to be 80+ on Sat and Sun!! Woo Hooo!! LOL
Chance looks great. Love the pics--of her and the weather! It's crappy here, too. I've tried to maintain a good attitude, but sometimes you just have to cry UNCLE.
I have seen clouds like that a few times. So freaky. Looks like tornado alley weather! Love the red barn.
Sorry you had icky weather for working Chance. Although it doesn't look too bad in the pics....maybe you edited out the raindrops, LOL. She's sure getting pretty! Love her color. Her mane is SO thick! Gonna keep her warm in the summer. you might have to braid it keep her cool. :) Have fun at the show! EAT!
Chance looks great! She looks like she's got a nice, huge body now too. I haven't measured Yalla! for quite some time, afraid to maybe. I plan on doing that this weekend. She still looks so little to me and she hasn't even shed out completely. Neither has Nadia for that matter. It gets in the 90s by day and 50s - 60s at night, chilly.
We have been having a lot of rain too. I hope this is not going to be one of those cool wet summers that I hate so much. I LOVE your pictures of the dark sky, and on your behalf, I am very proud of your little mustang. She is so good and cute. I love the white spot on her face. I hope your horse shows go swimmingly and soon you will be back with your creatures. PS My husband also gets distracted with the camera. I don't know how many pictures I end up with of engines and chainsaws when he is left in charge of the picture taking!
Those are some ominous looking dark clouds! Uncooperative weather here too. I keep wondering...where can I move where the weather is consistently pleasant all year and that is affordable. Haven't figured it out yet.
Chance is looking really pretty.
I hear ya with the weather round here....thunder storms and tornado touchdowns....scary. I drove 3 hrs. in the pouring rain last night coming home from a bridal shower! It was awful! Almost in two wrecks...someone had lost two chairs off of their truck! Hey with the clipping (on the bridle path)just keep putting it between her ears.....and MAKE sure you don't take it away until she lowers her head....could be a dance between the two of you for quite a time but it's worth the trouble when it finally clicks and they can see it's no problem!
I feel your pain. Lots of rain in my neck of the woods too. And when it's not raining, it's so humid and buggy that it's miserable. I also have only managed one trail ride this year. Sigh...
I so admire how you spend whatever spare time you have working with your youngster.
It has been so cool to watch Chance grow -- such a beautiful horse! i feel for you with the weather -- it has sort of been like that here. But I have to say, those photos of impending storms are pretty impressive!!
Chance is looking great. I love that photo with her mane flying.

Oh yucky weather!! Those were BLACK clouds! The kind that make you want to crawl back in bed huh?
Loved the mane flying picture. Sometimes it just seems like babies need things to make a big deal about - pat would do similar things over different objects. Then in a few months its something else....
Beautiful pictures of the stormy sky! It's so crazy--I saw you wish for sunny skies for all of us. I tell you what, we could really use some rain out here. We don't get near enough. At our family cattle ranch, we're in danger of having to get rid of cattle because there won't be enough grass.
Chance looks beautiful. I love her mane, too. :)
