Seriously OH? Not Again!

When I went out to feed my horses this evening, and as I was feeding Chance her grain, I heard this strange sound. I mean it has been raining A LOT in the last week, and the creek is really flowing right now, but there is no way I could be hearing it way out back. I listened.....and listened.....then I saw it. Darn it OH! Not again! Seriously? He left Chance's water on, for 8 hours her water ran and ran and ran. I looked around. Yep, Chance's pasture was flooded and my sister's boy's upper pasture was flooded. I ran down to turn the water off. Then I ran to the house to get my camera.

This is my sister's boy's upper pasture. There is never any water in this area.

This here is a little lower down in the boy's pasture. Again, there shouldn't be any water here.

This is Chance's back gate. It does get muddy here, but there isn't supposed to be any standing water.

Another angle of Chance's back gate. Goodness OH! Chance might be a wild Mustang, but she doesn't need a swimming hole in her pasture!

Everywhere outside the pasture's looks like this. Above ankle deep, and some area's are even deeper. Seriously OH, we are having record rainfall right now, we really didn't need anymore water around here!

Although the dogs really loved wading through the tall grass with water under their paws, we could do without all this water! It is flooded all the way down this grassy area. You just can't see it underneath all that grass.

Sadie is laughing at you, OH. She knows this isn't the first time, nor the second time that you have done this! This would be the third time you have left the water running, and yes, I am keeping count!

Oh, he is going to be in so much trouble when he gets home! As Sadie sits in water, lots of water!

Bailey was checking the water level in the bushes for me...."Yep, we have water back here too!" I was a little fearful that a water moccasin might come swimming out at me. Kiddin'! We don't have those around here!

I can only imagine what our water bill will be. We just might have to return that Blu-ray DVD player, new t.v. stand and 23" flat screen computer monitor we just bought over the weekend! Nah, I can't part with any of that, maybe my OH will learn his lesson this time and remember to turn that darn water off!

These next few photos have nothing to do with the water running for 8 hours. We have had enormous amounts of rain in the last week, with more to come all of this week.
Is this really June? Our pond is usually half empty by now, with the creek starting to dry up. But with all the rain that just won't stop, it is really full and the creek is flowing like crazy.

Who would have thought I'd have a waterfall in my backyard?

Two waterfalls?

And Bailey is trying to be the stinkiest Aussie in the neighborhood by wading through the yucky pond water. Great. There goes my indoor protection!

And yes, I did call my OH and asked why he left Chance's water running all day. He said "Oh no! I left the water running! Darn it! I got sidetracked by trying to find a spot that wasn't as muddy to feed the horses and I came down the back fence line and totally forgot! That is the third time I've done that!" Really? The third time? I wasn't keeping count, was I?

Well..... you will have wonderful grass this summer...which is a blessing... even if the water bill is high for a month....and...its a good thing you have no water moccasins... don't know why those things exist....

Yep, men do not multi-task well at all, do they? Trying to figure out how to find a 'dry' spot to walk in was plenty to keep him occupied. lol. Now, he'll REALLY have to look around for a dry spot! It's funny now, but I know it won't be so funny when the water bill comes in.

O ouch, you guys have to pay for water!!! Oops!
There is an advantage to having a well, if we leave ours on to long it drains the holding tank and it shuts off the water, still in the summer it has to be on for 3-4 hours though.

It is so wet! Is it ever going to quit! My pasture was a swimming pool this am too! But not because of the hose! LOL

It's just a good thing you don't have to pay for your water!Your little waterfalls are pretty, even if all this rain is a pain in the behind. It makes everything so green and lush which I love.

I can't say much ,seeing as how I built Phoenix a moat today myself(oops) It can happen so quickly! I was moving horses then someone showed up and the next thing I knew...

Holy smokes! You need to send some of that water to us; we're drying up! That amount of water is just unbelievable! I mean, I guess its a good thing, but gee, spread the wealth! And, aren't you glad it was your OH and not YOU that left the water running! I have to admit, I've done that a time or two before.

Well, now he'll have an even tougher time finding a dry spot!

It is so wet, lush and green there. We've not had any real mositure since our last snow fall a couple months ago.

I hope we get some monsoon rains to help green things up around here, though it will never ever be as green as your place.
Your creek and pond areas are so pretty..and so are the dirty pooches, too. hehe!

Don't you love how water always seems to pool around gates -- the very area where we need to walk through? I think it's because the horses pace back and forth there and dig ditches. I'm piling a lot of D.G. up around my gates so I don't have to deal with swimming through them next winter.

What a goober! Maybe it was karma for going on a shopping spree!? ;) It will dry up fast and soon....it will, hard to believe. I think we get a break tomorrow, anyway!! Maybe you should have invested in a raft of some sort?

Oops! We are desperate for water here, do you have any to spare? LOL!

OH MY!!! Yes that has been known to happen around here many many times! So frustrating with all that water! However we do not have that water bill to worry about! Just the electricity to run the well pump LOL! I am glad to see that the pond and creek still have water! I remember last year seeing pictures of it all dried up!

Dang! You need a float valve in your tank so it will shut off automatically. With my middle-age CRS, I'm sure Mr. Fry would be telling stories about me if we didn't have one.

Oh my goodness! That is a lot of water from the sky and from your OH!!! I can't laugh too loud at him, because I have left ours on too - not for 8 hours, but long enough to make a nice mud hole for two chubby horses to roll in!
I think sunshine and DRY weather must be in your future. You have had enough of the rainforest stuff!

lol good one OH! I have left the water running before but just a few foot wide puddle that was dry by the next morning.

Oh water woes! When I was a kid my Dad left the water on three times too. But he added his own little flare by leaving it on in the BARN, in the middle of WINTER.

As soon as we opened the big sliding door, all of the water on the concrete aisle froze solid and made a skating rink!

Luckily for us we have compacted tailing in our stall floors so it drained pretty quickly, with a little help from the bailing crew! (consisting of my sisters and I)

Our solution? We put a sign on the door we use to leave the barn that says "Did you turn off the water?" sometimes a little reminder is all it takes.

JJ said...

OH NOOOO!!! LOL, you should just stick post it notes all over the property and barn area to remind OH to turn the water off.

Your stream/pond is very pretty, especially the waterfalls - I bet you wouldn't mind it drying up a bit at this point though. I hope you get some nice sunshine soon!! We've had a bit of rain here in Michigan too, but nothing like that. Knock on wood :).

Yikes! I've forgotten the water, but fortunately only for maybe a half hour. I even set a timer to remind myself but sometimes I don't hear the timer go off.

Despite the over abundance of water, I sure wish we were getting that. We're off to another dry spell and the grass is getting crunchy.

"Waterfall" photos are pretty!

We ovecame this problem with a nifty little hose timer. It screws onto the faucet and the hose screws onto it. You turn the dial to however minutes (okay, so that part is an educated guesstimate) and it shuts the water off when the time is up. I got ours at a home-improvement store in the garden department, next to the hoses and nozzles and such, for under $9. Sooo worth it!

What a sight! Hope you know how to swim! :)

I was going to suggest the same thing as Anon...A timer on the hydrant.

I was notorious for leaving the hydrant on at my house in SD. Then I got a timer and never overflowed a tank again.

Send a little rain this-a-way girl. My riding area is so dry it is like powder.

Pony Girl~ Yes, I seriously considered pulling out the ole raft and oars. I probably could have used it. Nothing like river rafting in my own backyard!

Anonymous~ Thanks for the tip! I have never heard of hose timers, will definitely be checking those out!

To everyone~ I'd love to send this rain your way! I am up to my eyeballs in rain and mud!

That OH is so funny! He must be getting old! Love the pictures of Sadie in the grass. Your pictures are really nice!!!

DO NOT send the rain this way!! I guess I missed the worst of it while I was in Maui but it's been crazy raining here! Finally a bit of sun today... and on a Saturday no less!

As for leaving the water on... guilty! How do you people (who actually remember to turn it off) do it??!?!? I had never heard of that timer thing either. Will suggest it to my friend who also has a hubby with just such an issue.

OH NO! Your water bill!! And all the soggy land masses! At least they make for some really beautiful photos on your blog! Maybe your OH was secretly trying to get as much drama as possible in your blog!! I am glad to hear that yours is not the only OH who does dumb things!!

I have to say those are pretty pictures though...I'm haven't even mentioned to my DH that I left the patio heater on the other night and now it's out of propane. I'm just waiting for him to notice that one. :-(

this happened to us this week for the first time (my fault) and we wasted 3 months of water in one day. horrible!
