Anyways, I am back. It has been one helluva week. I have been miserable in this humid, rainy weather that we have been having. I feel like I live in a rain forest, but without the snakes, parrots and monkeys!!! Okay, enough complaining from me.
One of the things I have been busy with is that I loaded up Chance and took her for a spin. This was her first "real" trailer ride like a big horse. Last weekend my sister came up and we all went out to play with the girls. It was a rainy, dreary day. Imagine that. (I told you that I live in a rain forest! I'm just sayin'....) While I loaded up Brandy, my OH held onto Chance. You should have seen the look on Chance's face when I came out of the trailer after putting Brandy in there. Her ear's were up, her head held high and her eye's open wide! She was very curious and interested in what was going on.

I took Chance from my OH and headed towards the trailer.

Chance hesitated for a second, I think she was wondering why there was another horse in the trailer.

Then she walked right in. I tied her up and shut the divider.

I shut the doors and my sister and I jumped into the truck. I was just going to go through the neighborhood, but I ended up going up the freeway one exit and then taking a back road home. Every time I stopped, I listened for pawing and scrambling. Nothing. It was so quiet back there that I almost pulled over to check on them to make sure they were okay! I am so used to Fritzy pawing like crazy in the trailer, and it is so loud and irritating. But Chance and Brandy must have been happily munching on their hay, not even moving a muscle.
When I got back to my house, I had to back my horse trailer down the driveway (we back it in so we don't have to back it out when we leave.) This is when Fritzy won't stop pawing. But since I left the impatient horse at home, it was the quietest backup ever. Not.a.sound. Once I got the trailer where it needed to be, I went and opened the doors. Chance had dumped all of her hay out of her hay bag, so she didn't even have anything to eat! I was also expecting her to get a little nervous and possibly be sweaty from the trip. Nope. She was perfectly dry. She didn't appear to be nervous at all. I opened the divider, untied her and walked her out. She seemed a little excitable when I first unloaded her. I am sure she wasn't expecting to be back at the place we just left.
It turned out to be a great trailer ride for Chance, and Brandy was a very good leader in hauling. I am planning on doing a couple more trailer rides in the next couple weeks with Chance and Brandy. Then I will take Chance for a ride, ALONE! I want her to get used to hauling by herself too. That is when she might get a little nervous, but we shall see!!
Thank you for taking picture's of Chance's big day, sis!

way to go! I'm so happy for you and Chance.
Good job!!!
I took Gilly for his first ride in his new trailer today! Oh, fun, he did good and I did good too. Had to back into a narrow driveway to turn around, scary but we did it! He was very calm when he exited the trailer and even went back in twice when I asked him too. It was a good day!!! :-)
Great job , Chance is a good girl and all your good work is sure showing! Hope you catch up on some rest soon!
Yea!! I'm so happy for you! Chance is a winner all around.
Fantastic! Keep it slow and easy with no pressure and Chance will make a jim-dandy pleasure horse.
What a good girl! And a good momma too! There really is something to be said for a blank slate... and putting the time in to a good solid foundation.
Good job.
Oh, and get some rest girly before you get worn out:)
YAY!!! So awesome that little mustang is!!! It is so great to hear how well she is doing!! I hope your getting some rest and *dare I say sunshine* this weekend!!
fantastic effort with your trailer ride. Sounds like you have been sooo busy. Dont you hate the rain though. Its raining here in NZ too.We are all sick of it too
Good stuff - trailer loading is so important and doing it the way you've done it - slow and quietly - has really paid big dividends. I've had some horses who had trailer issues, and getting those fixed (or at least improved to tolerable) has been hard. Maisie still is an irritable trailer rider, pawing whenever we're stopped and even kicking from time to time. Dawn's pretty good about it as long as there isn't a horse behind her in a slant or next to her in a straight!
so you put brandy in to help chance, and chance ended up helping brandy!*LOL*
aarene and i used to say "wanna go for a ride?" when the horses got to ride in the trailer, and "wanna go for a carry?" when we were gonna ride the horses: )

Chance is the best girl ever! She rode quietly without hay too. Amazing little sweetie...and her color is SO pretty. You need time off from work to love up your little Mustang! (and get some much needed sleep! - listen to me mothering you! Just tell me to shut up!lol!)
Whoot!
But take care of yourself!
Ahhh, what a relief. Now you can confidently trailer her. I've been avoiding trailering Bombay mainly because if he does try to commit suicide in the trailer again, I just don't have the time or money to deal with it. All that blood tends to discourage one from repeat performances. My cable company has been down about 50% of the time now. Not only does it make it impossible for me to work from home, but every time I try to leave a comment on a blog, I lose the opportunity.
Another big milestone passed easily for your baby! Sorry you had such a crappy week. I am HATING this weather too!!!!
Wow! Great job, Chance! How cool is that.
I'm thinking it feels like a rain forrest too, so you're not alone in that one. I hate this and it's still supposed to be summer. I'm dreading what winter will be.
If you've been doing pics, are Littles the photographers? I know they usually are. I just love them. Their pics are so great.
That's awesome! I love it when a big event turns into a non event.
Rising Rainbow~ Yes, the Little's are our photographers. They are really good. I've seen some of the picture's, and wow is all I have to say on some of them!! I can't wait to see the flyer this fall and the video's!
The pictures are wonderful! I just love when things work out the way they are supposed to !
Yaaa Chance is awesome, just keeps getting better and better! Sure is nice when they justt jump in and stand nice in a trailer.
I figured it must be. They are my favorites for farm shoots. Wish I could afford to have them out for updates for my website. They took those stunning pics of Solidare I've posted.
Good job on the hauling but also wanted to tell you how well you have done with Chance. She has filled out nicely and looks wonderful!
You have the rain forest, we had the desert for long time. Now it is cold and damp, but suppose to be 90 tomorrow. Never ends...
Yes it went very well! It's been almost TOO easy. Will anything be difficult w/this filly? Well maybe ear clipping, LOL!
You should take her for another ride next weekend!
Your're welcome for the crooked pictures (hey, some people make a good living taking crooked pictures.... ;-)
PONY GIRL
Sounds excellent! Hopefully life will calm down soon, but you seem to be getting all the important stuff done anyway.
This is so great, Paint Girl! Isn't is amazing that horses, for all their ability to freak out, take to trailering so nicely? It is amazing that they let us trailer them at all? I wonder what they are thinking in there? Does your trailer have an escape door at the front just in case things get crazy in there while you are loading horses? Of course, it sure didn't get too crazy!! congratulations to all on a training run well done!!
Yahooo! All your hard work is paying off. And of course, having a very smart Mustang filly doesn't hurt any either. hehe!
That is just so awesome!
I wonder what horses think of their first few trailer rides. It must feel like a person's first few elevator rides.....you get in and the doors open and you're somewhere else.
It will be interesting to see what Chance thinks when you trailer her somewhere other than home.
I bet she'll enjoy going someplace new and will make a wonderful trail horse. Will you be taking her out with Brandy and Fritzy for some ponying rides soon, too?
~Lisa
Baystatebrumby~ My trailer doesn't have an escape door. So thankfully Chance handled trailering well!
Lisa~ One of my goals last summer was to start ponying Chance, unfortunately I did not get that done. So this spring I will be doing that, I will start at home first, we have some wide trails here and on my neighbors property that I will start with before I haul her to our other trails for ponying. With the crappy weather we get during the winter, pretty much all horse stuff is on hold. I will still bring Chance out and do ground work with her and if we get a couple decent days (few and far between), I will work my other two.
Hi Paint Girl!
Wow...little chance is all grown up! She is doing SO well! Go baby mustang, GO!
I am so impressed with her mad trailering skillz :)
Please send her a nibble from baby Snapdragon!
xoxo
Sue
Way to go Chance! What a super smart girl! :)
Sorry you had a crappy week. I hope the weather improves for you at least.
What a good girl your little Chance is!!! All your hard work does pay off...and...Chance is an exceptional filly!
