Vacation, Finally!

Destination: Palm Springs, California!

My Aunt Desert Rose invited us to come for a visit! I hadn't been to Palm Springs in a few years, so I was very excited to go back! The guest list was myself, my OH, my sister Pony Girl and her new boyfriend, Farmboy! We were to fly out really early on a Thursday morning. I do not like to fly and the weather in the desert was not going to be so good. There were severe high wind warnings and my mind would not stop thinking about flying into severe winds. We did hit turbulence, probably the worst turbulence I have ever experienced. But I made it through with only putting my head into my hands and telling myself that we would make it safely.

We arrived at my Aunt DR's house around 11:00 a.m. and were able to just relax. It was partly sunny, around 75 degrees with really high winds, but that didn't stop us from going out to the pool and just relaxing for awhile. I even took a nap!

My Aunt DR had a ride scheduled for Friday. We arrived at the stables early and brought her 2 beautiful horses out to get them ready. Soon after we loaded them up and headed out. DR was going to ride her Quarter Horse, Jesse and my sister was going to ride DR's beautiful TWH, Lady. The rest of us would be on stable horses, all TWH's. It was partly sunny and a little cold but any weather was better then home!

L to R: Pony Girl on Lady, Farmboy on Gus, my OH on Tennis Shoe and me on Scooter

I just love the trails in the desert. You get a little bit of everything. A lot of switchbacks, different terrain, desert and then once you go into the canyons, you get water and lots of trees!

This is the spot where we always take pictures. It is a great place, way up high and once we got up here, the wind really picked up. For a moment or two, I felt like we were going to blow right off the horses!

In this photo you will notice my OH, who is on the right, holding his hat on his head!

My sister and DR coming down a switchback.

There were a lot of water crossings. I would love to bring my own horses here and ride these trails!

Looking between Scooter's ears....

I just wish we had more time to go on a couple more rides! It was a lot of fun and I am ready to do it again!

We went to a couple street fairs, where I bought myself a new handbag and a really pretty ring. We also went to a casino and gambled away some money. No winnings for this girl! I don't even know why I put money in those machines, I never win anything!

My view for quite a bit of my vacation!

On Saturday evening, DR put on a Birthday dinner for my sister. It was fabulous! Wonderful food and cousin Betsy and her husband came too!

I also found the next breed of dog I will own someday!! DR has a beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lizzy. She is still a puppy and she is absolutely perfect! I fell in love with her and almost hid her in my luggage when I was packing! If you have ever seen one of these dogs, they are one of the neatest breeds you will ever meet! So sweet, loving, friendly, happy go lucky, and I could just go on and on....

Totally irresistible! I mean really, look at this face!! Totally. Stinking. Cute.!!

What was even cuter was Lucy the cat cuddling up with Lizzy the dog! Now how cute is that?

We didn't have any rain, but we really only had one good weather day while we were there. Our last full day it was 80 degrees and perfectly sunny. So once we got home from shopping and lunch in downtown Palm Springs, we headed back home to the pool and laid in the sun and went for a swim!

It was a great vacation and I only wish we had more time there! It went way to fast!

Thank you DR for having us and for a wonderful vacation, as always!

It was so wonderful to have you all down...even though it went by so fast! We still have wind as it has never really left the valley for more than a day or 2. but it does help keep down the temps! we go back to PDX in 2 weeks :(

Sounds like a ton of fun! Glad you finally got a break from everything.

Oh and the reason why you don't win is cause you use the machines - try a hand of Black Jack next time. The house advantage is lower and with a tiny bit of skill you too can take home some extra cash.

I guessed right! Where else would you go when the weather has been so icky at home, right?

The photos are gorgeous! Looks like a fabulous ride all of you together on some really nice horses. It's also great to see the other PG....with a cute BF no less! heheh!

I've always been enamored by the King Charles Spaniel breed ever since I saw Lady and the Tramp. The photo with Lucy and Lizzy is just too stinkin' cute!!!

Next time you should plan a month long visit. Yours was way to short I agree.
Just hold onto those warm, relaxing and fun memories until then :)

Oh my gosh, that looks like so much fun!! Can I come next time? :) That ride looks like a blast. I have never ridden in that type of terrain. And the dog, adorable!

Why didn't you tell me about the King Charles breed before I bought my hellion! Oh, well.

What a beautiful ride! I went on a 6 hour ride in the desert with some family members several years ago and loved it, even though it was also an extremely windy day! But the terrain was so cool.

Glad you got a vacation break!
