Product Review

I was contacted a couple times by Sean from Absorbine to try out some new products. He sent me the ShowSheen Stain Remover & Whitener and the ShowSheen 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner, plus he sent me the Horseman's One Step Spray Leather Cleaner & Conditioner.

First I tried out the Shampoo/Conditioner on Brandy's tail. Brandy's tail is supposed to be white but is more of a yellow/brown-ish hue throughout the winter. The shampoo/conditioner deep cleans and revitalizes the coat, mane and tail. Once I shampoo'd the tail, I sprayed on the Stain Remover/Whitener, which has Oxi-Eraser stain lifters that are color safe and bleach-free!

This is what Brandy's tail looks like throughout the winter, so you can see that I definitely need something that will get the job done! And in case your wondering, this before picture of Brandy was taken last fall in our typical 8 month muddy season, although this years muddy season has been extended into 9 months because my pasture's still look like this, and it's June!

And here is the after picture of using the ShowSheen Shampoo/Conditioner and Stain Remover/Whitener. Sorry for the "not so straight" shot of her tail, but silly me forgot to get pictures of the before and after when I washed her tail, so I had to use pictures I already had of the "before" and pictures I had taken from the pasture "after" I had washed her tail. But you can definitely see the difference! Brandy's tail never turns completely white, no matter what I use, but I really liked this product and highly recommend it!!

Now on to the next product: Absorbine's Horseman's One Step Spray Leather Cleaner & Conditioner. This is a non-aerosol micro-spray that you can spray sideways and upside down which comes in handy when cleaning saddles!!

Here is the "before" of my trail saddle. Obviously it accumulates a lot of dirt and dust from trail riding. It was in desperate need of a cleaning! So I was super excited to try out this new leather cleaner!

You know how a lot of leather cleaners you have to spray on a rag or sponge first then apply to your saddle? Not so with this cleaner! I sprayed it right onto my saddle and took a sponge and cleaned it. The easy spray got right into the crevices and tooled leather, it was so easy to use and dried super fast!! Plus you don't have to worry about the stitching, it is safe to use around that! Since it was so easy to use, it took me no time at all to get a couple of my saddles and bridles clean! I loved it!!! Check out my saddle (and breastcollar) now!! It shines!! This leather cleaner/conditioner is my NEW favorite and it will be the product I use on all of my tack from now on.

So if you haven't already tried these products on your horses and tack, I recommend that you do!! You will not be disappointed!

I have their "2 in 1" product and love that it is sulfate free! I haven't tried the stain remover... I didn't even know they had something like that.

Your saddle looks super clean! I'm going to have to get some of the One Step spray! I have the kind in the tub, but the spray would be super to use on my saddle up in the crevices under my stirrups!

I love Absorbine's Showsheen detangler gel and Refreshmint, I ALWAYS have those two on hand :)

I wonder if the products you tested are available in Canada? I need a good leather cleaner and goodness knows I have two white tails that would put that whitener to the test! lol

cdncowgirl~ I'd think you would be able to order these online through any tack catalog like Schneiders, Valley Vet Supply, or you can go to the Absorbine link in my blog post and enter in your Canada info to see where you can buy there. I highly recommend all these products, but I love, love, love the leather cleaner!!!

How do you think the leather cleaner would work on dry leather? I was given some english reins that are in good shape but the leather is very dry. I've had them soaking in neets foot over night - now I have them in a sealed bag in my car hoping the heat helps produce some humidity off the oil I left on the reins.

Jeni, the bottle says "For very dry leather, several light applications are recommended". I think I have some really dry leather reins that I never use that I could try it on to see how well it works, then I could let you know. I just haven't been able to get all my tack clean yet...that's on my super long to do list!

you have such a gorgeous saddle! makes me wanna go western. i know that circle Ys tend to fit my arab too. not that i can ride...

i have a lot of tack and almost nothing leather, sadly. one bridle and a tailpiece on one crupper. oh, my half chaps! please send absorbine!

sooo jealous that you get to do product reviews. that will never happen to me.

also, america has sulfate free shampoo for HORSES? i cannot even find it for HUMANS in germany! AGH! i'm washing my hair with baking soda right now. channelling what is left of my inner hippy.

the cars get washed with the sulfate stuff. not that it's legal in germany to wash your own car...

I love all absorbine products I have ever tried so I cant see how this would be any different. But always good to hear it from someone who has tried it.

Sounds like good stuff. Like Cdn Cowgirl metioned, I'll have to see if I can get those particular products here... Sometimes it takes a while for the good stuff to make it up north. :-)

I really need to clean/condition my western saddle - it has been awhile!
