The Festivities

Another Christmas has come and gone.... I can't believe how fast the time goes. But before you know it, it will be that time of year again. Wait a minute! I need to slow down here, I'd like to get through spring and summer, before we get back to fall and winter.

We started off the week with my OH catching a nasty cold, on top of that he had to work 3 12-hour days. So we canceled our Christmas eve plans. We did go to my OH's mom's for Christmas, even though my OH was still quite sick.

Our niece, little K, just turned 1 yrs old, so she was trying to figure out what to do with the presents. She is such a cute little one, and she is so good. No crying or fussing. She just entertains us all.

Once we ate a fantastic dinner of prime rib, potato's and veggies, we headed home before dark so we could go out to feed the horses. My parents were coming up the day after Christmas, so it was bath time for the Aussie's. I bathed Sadie, who is sooooo good for her bath. We bathe them in our big walk in shower in our master bathroom. Sadie walks in on her own, and stands perfectly still for her whole bath. My OH gave Bailey his bath. Sometimes we have to drag him into the shower, and he always puts his body up against the tile or shower door. He doesn't like it too much.

After bath time, we let them open their presents.

Bailey loves this time of year!! He is really good at opening his presents.

He is also very careful about what is inside the wrapping paper.

Sadie? Well..... not so good. She isn't too sure what she is supposed to do with a box wrapped in funny looking paper. I think by the time we got to the last present, she finally was figuring it out.

Sadie's new bandana! I actually bought this bandana for Bailey, but my OH said it didn't fit Bailey's personality, so I decided to wrap it for Sadie.

Sadie still wasn't sure what to do with the present, so we moved Sadie out of the way, and let Bailey take over, since he is the expert at unwrapping!

Taking a break......

I think he got tired of unwrapping presents, I ended up having to unwrap this one myself.

I had to work the day after Christmas. My parents, sister and my OH came to the farm to see me and the horses. I gave them a small tour of the place, then turned out a couple of my favorite horses for them to see. Once I got home, we ate dinner, opened our presents to eachother, and got to spend some quality time together.

My sister made some gifts for me and my mom. She is so creative, and I will have to take pictures of what she made me, and get them posted. This is one she made for my mom.

I also got to bring Chance out to show my parents how well she is doing. I have to be completely honest, my 8 month old wild Mustang, is better behaved then any of the 8 month old Arabians at the farm. I am not kidding!! One of the colts at the farm, who is in halter training, reared up and struck out at me, his front hoof came down on my forehead, and down my entire face. My face was numb for at least half an hour. Luckily I was not seriously injured, and the only mark is a small knot on my forehead. This is not to say that my Mustang would never do anything like that, she has reared up and struck out. But this colt didn't rear or strike at me out of frustration, he struck out because that is how he is, he is a mean little sucker, and he intentionally tried to hurt me. I will be extra cautious when handling him from now on.

I now have that nasty cold my OH had. So I am under the weather. I am hoping I feel better so I can get outside to continue training my adorable Mustang! She is doing really well at picking up all four feet. And she did much better for her booster shots with the vet last week. My next goal is to get her comfortable leading in other places, not just her pasture and arena. She is going to become an even bigger girl, and start some exploring!

That is terrible that you got the cold and that OH had to endure the holiday with it too. Your tree is lovely and so are you photos of Sadie and Bailey. Bailey in the shower is too much!!! They are so cute opening their presents. Your mom's gift from Pony Girl is wonderful! I hope you get better soon so you can spend some time with your holiday angel, Chance!

What a bummer to be sick and not feeling good during the holidays. Maybe y'all are through it and can now get on with enjoying the rush. Take a deep breath and enjoy the ride...but stay out from under those hooves!

Oh your pups are adorable! Too funny that one will open presents and one won't;) We had prime rib too!mmmmmm I fixed dinner this year. I love to cook and have friends and family over. I am sorry you were hurt. Darn little stinker. He needs some manners for sure. Also it is a nasty tasting stuff, but it really works. Thera flu, or the version for colds. Drink it hot. It will go down easier. It is what I took, and I had the same thing. Get better my little knot on the head friend. Have a wonderful rest of this year:)((hugs))

hope you get over your cold quickly...colds are no fun at all. Glad you had some time at Xmas with both families!

I'm glad to hear that you weren't badly hurt by that hoof in the face! That is scary!

Glad you had a good christmas but crazy colt trying to hurt you. I wish more people would think about the temperament of the parents before they breed. Who really wants to work or train or ride a miserable, mean horse anyway?

I love how the Aussie's hair is kinda kinky when it is wet! :) I hope you are feeling better soon. Had a great time at the barn seeing the show horses, and of course, my favorite mare! :) I wanted to tell you that before you got home, when I had My Boy in the arena with Coda, Chance was trotting along the back fence (she does that sometimes) and she was bucking and leaping. Mom got a little video snippet, hopefully she will post it. After seeing how full of it she was, I'm not surprised at how she was later when you brought her out. She looked like she need to run some crazy filly laps! Can't wait to see her do that in the arena once it is safe (not muddy or icy!) Thanks for the great holiday at your place, see ya soon!

Years ago I had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Jed who was a frisbee freak. One year I bought him a new one for Christmas. I wrapped it in paper, plus it was still in it's original wrapping. I buried it as deep as I could under the tree. I have a large family, so that was deep. Then, showing off, I asked where his present was. He literally dug through the other gifts and came up with his. Everyone except me was amazed. I knew how good his nose was.

Ohhh, scary! Be careful, babies can hurt you, especially some of those hot "show" Arab types.

I love your dogs. And your tree is beautiful!

Sounds like you had a great Christmas, even being as busy as you are. Can't wait to see what PG made you, love the sign she made your mom. (is that one of Dusty's shoes?)
Not sure who's tree that is but its gorgeous. I miss having a tree but there really isn't a spot for one here right now. Instead I have miniature tree figurines (hey at least they don't shed needles!)
Sorry to hear that little bugger got ya! Glad to hear you weren't hurt worse.
Oh, and I love that Bailey opens his own presents - too cute! :)

A hoof down your face! You are a bonafide cowgirl now , complete with real rough and tumble horse stories to share! not that you don't have those already!!!!! I am VERY GLAD you were not seriously injured! The last thing you want to have damaged are your eyes! That was a close call. Little crabby colt!
Looks like you had real abundance of family and goodness at Christmas time. Sorry you are sick now! It is hard to do hard work and feel lousy.
Love the dog pictures!!
