This last week I have spent my days bundled up as much as possible. All of us girls at the farm have been fighting to keep warm, which can be difficult to do when the temperature didn't get much higher than 10 degrees. I do have to say though, that the hand and toe warmers have been wonderful. I do not know what I would have done without them!! Every little bit of heat I could get, I used. The temps have finally climbed to the upper 20's, a total heatwave!! Who would've thought I would be happy to see the upper 20's?
Besides being totally busy at the farm, hockey games both Friday and Saturday nights, getting the house decorated for Christmas, going Christmas shopping etc, I have not had much computer time. I am hoping to get back to that this week!
I went out to see my girls today. Plus I had to get some picture's of the first snowfall of the year, and what better way to make my sister jealous then to do a winter post of snow!! She loves snow, as long as she doesn't have to drive in it, like most of us. And since she doesn't get much snow where she lives, I usually hog it all here, I figured what better way to brag to her about the snow, then on my blog!!
With the extremely cold weather we have had, the hoses are frozen solid. I know I was given tips on that last year, but neglected to share that info with my OH. So here he is filling up garbage cans, and driving them out to the horses pasture's to fill up the water troughs. It was a slow process, but it worked. All the horses now have full water troughs. Way to go OH!!

I walk up to see the girls. They were staying dry in the confines of their barn. My OH even bought them new treat balls yesterday! Talk about spoiled horses!

Sadie and Bailey get so excited when they see the white stuff falling!! They get to make tunnels in the snow! How fun is that!?!

Chance just turned 8 months old, can you believe it? She'll be a year old in 4 months!! Goodness, how time flies!

Chance's first snow! She was actually eating it, then making funny faces, but of course she wouldn't do it when I had the camera out!

The neighbor kids that live behind us were out screaming and playing in their field, so Chance was more interested in what was going on back there, then me. But she was being a sweetie, as usual! The other day, our halter trainer at the farm asked me how training a Mustang was compared to other horses. I told him that Chance is really smart, and picks up things very quickly. I said she was definitely smarter than my other 2 horses! If all Mustangs are as smart as Chance, I may have to re-think my career choice! Seriously!!

Bailey covered in snowflakes! Silly Aussie!

Last but not least, here is that cranky Appaloosa! I am pretty sure he wishes it would stop snowing. So here you go sis, a picture of your boy in the first snow of the season!

I am going to head back to my toasty fire that is burning in the wood stove, curl up with my monkey (Dakota) and a good book, and watch the snow continue to fall!
I know a lot of you have had extreme weather too, so I hope you all stay warm!

Here's something to warm you up... we have WAY below normal temps. And a windchill warning. With the windchill its -45C!!
Love your snowy pics. Hard to believe we have hardly any snow yet :(
Oh, and to make you jealous - the World Junior Hockey tourny is in my hometown, starts Dec 26th :p lol
so sorry you all have such miserable cold weather! not that we are toasty but better than your area. all of your babies are looking as beautiful as ever! especially chance!
Stay warm....hope you don't get too much snow.
All the horses look snug and warm. What size blanket do you have on Chance?
Ha! My Boy does not look thrilled about the snow, that is for sure. No flakes here yet....I'm keeping my fingers crossed! It was fun to see all the critters in the white stuff since I can't be there.
Oh, did the OH happen to mention that although it was HIS idea to make a water transporting system, it was MY idea at Lowes to get that particular facuet attachment? I think my suggestion was better than the employee at Lowes, thank you very much! Good to know I have a back-up career!
I am thinking your OH should do a guest post on how to make what he did!
Looks like a greartr way to haul water ,I might need to try that sometime when things here are froze up.Stay warm and "enjoy" your snow!
In a couple of those photos of Chance I could see her as an adult. She sure has lost some of that baby face. She's growing up! What a cutie, though!
Your snow is beautiful! And your horses look snug as bugs in rugs. Bah! on the frozen hoses. I kept mine in my tack room hoping they wouldn't freeze and they did anyway. I just can't store that mess of hose in our house and drag them up our steep icy and muddy hill every day.
So, now I'm just using buckets to fill the heated water buckets from the barn spigots. Takes longer, but is easier for me.
We've got heavy gusts of wind now. Up into the 60 mph range. It bites into your clothes and skin. brrr! And we still have snow on the ground, although it's melting and making everything muddy.
Winter. You gotta love it.....or not! lol!
Enjoy your fire, kitty and book. :)

Fun to see your winter wonderland! We got a little dusting down south today & it's pretty much tapered off now, but it's definitely put a pretty little winter sparkle to things! Stay warm! :)
We have a little snow here tonight too! Don't think that we are supposed to get much. The water at our barn is frozen too!!
cdncowgirl~ I am very jealous to hear that the World Hockey Tournament is in your town! One of the players from our team will be playing!
Fantastyk Voyager~ Chance's blanket is a Weatherbeeta Freestyle, size 57".
Wow, looks cold there paint girl. Chance is growing so fast! I agree with laughing Orca, She's losing her baby face. Still very pretty though!...
They all look so cute in their blankies! My poor horses have no barn, and no blankete either. But we almost never have snow either.
After -12 last week, we're up to a balmy 36 today!!!!! It feels soooo good!
Your OH has it all figured out...well done!
Before you know it Chance will be under saddle...the time flies! She sure is lookin' cute!
Glad you've figured out how to keep warm at the barn...I'm not missin' my training job one bit ;~)
I love snow pictures! The picture of Chance in her halter is really beautiful. I agree with Lisa, she is looking grown up. Glad it is getting warmer out for you. I feel very fortunate Dusty has a stall to go into at night. But the barn is still really cold, and all the water pipes are frozen out there. HUGS.
Great pictures of the snowy gang! Watering horses in the winter is the worst! Frozen hands, hoses, buckets...ugh!
Chance is a delight. Your girls in the barn look cozy. Pony Girl's Boy looks like his spots match the snow falling! Too cute. He doesn't look cranky in that photo.
Enjoy your winter wonderland!
We got a little snow, mostly icy now, but are expecting more snow tonight. Stay warm!
Join the club! Gads! We're due for this weekend coming!
I envy you your snow. We went straight from freezing to rain/snow mix to rain. I have to say I'm not minding the rain, it feels so warm out now!
My neighbors hate me when I gloat about the snowfalls!
- The Equestrian Vagabond
brrrrrr! You can come stay with me! Especially if you help me get ready for Christmas! lol
Glad those hoof and paw warmers are working for you! Chance looks so pretty in the snow! Your OH is a keeper!!!
Ha ha! The two older girls look all toasty and warm in their house, and then there's the wild woman, out braving the elements! Looks like a lot of fun, all the snowflakes falling and a warm house and book to go back to. Oh, and make sure to give that OH a big hug and kiss. What a guy, out there filling buckets in the cold! Keeper!
Isn't it funny how 20 can feel like a heat wave??? I'm dreaming of 20 degrees...... LOL!
I just have to pipe in and say that I think it is hard for some people who have never lived on the coast to realize how COLD 20 degrees is when you consider the moisture in the air...that wet cold bites like you wouldnt believe! It is like the difference between dry heat and wet heat, I cant stand it to be in the low 90s here on the coast but I can handle 105 in the desert.
You ponies all look so happy, snug and warm!
It has been so cold here too, and this weekend will get even colder. The temeratures I can handle, but it is the wind that makes me feel like I can't leave the house. How do you like the girls you work with? I hope you like them a lot!
Too bad for your OH with those big barrels of water! Oh well, he doesn't look like he minds!
Yes, we are in a cold spell too. I bring my house into the mud room in the basement. The barn has a pump that has heated electrical tape wrapped around it to prevent freezing. That system has been working pretty well. I'm also looking forward to the temps getting into the 20s!
It has been cold here, too...I agree that 20 degrees would be a heat wave!! It sure is miserable when the water freezes -- hope you get your heaters out soon....
Oh please Oh please keep all of the snow there ;)! I HATE snow and we've had our first snow/ice bit last week and it sucked! It wasn't even that much but it just shows how much I hate it LOL!! Chance is looking SO pretty!! I love her head! You keep warm in that barn!
Looks pretty cold and familiar temps here! Stay warm! All the horses look great in their blankets......Chance so cute in hers...and yes they grow up fast!
I've missed you. I haven't had much computer time either. It looks so very cold there! I feel your pain, although several degrees warmer, standing outside selling Christmas trees. Hang in there. Before we know it, you'll be out playing horse shoes and fishing. :)
I'm envious of your snow ~it is probably gone. If only there was a way to keep it off the roads. There is nothing better than snow on the ground and sunny skies!
Brrrrr....that looks cold! Your OH was so wonderful to water the horses for ya! You have him well trained!! ha ha ha! Looks like everyone is all tucked in nice and warm! Chance is a smart one. She is going to be a great horse!
Um, yes. Yes, ma'am, career choice change in the future! Of course, domestic horse trainers don't always like to hear that, lol!
Chance is adorable in her big girl clothing!
We have not had our first snow yet here in south central KS... but when you talk toasty fire and snowflakes falling outside, it sounds heavenly! :) They are forecasting our first big storm this Weds.... so we shall see if it comes to pass or not!
I adore all your pics of Chance and really enjoy following along with your training. She sounds like such a sweetie pie.
Stay warm, and wishing you and yours a very happy holiday season!
