Once everyone arrived at our house, we loaded up in our car and hit the freeway. We figured we would go to the aquarium in the city to waste some time since our "trip" departure was delayed. I haven't been to the aquarium in years! It was so hard to take picture's, it was so crowded and everyone was in the way. Have I ever said how much I despise crowds? That is probably why I live way out in the country!
There were so many people in front of the Octopus tank, that I couldn't get any good picture's of him. He was big and really cool.

Jellyfish are so amazing, it is hard to believe that they are a living creature!

We saw many interesting fish. I have fish aquariums at home, but they are freshwater. Saltwater fish come in all shapes, colors and sizes!

Seahorses are so cool!

And of course we have seals.

Everyone was hungry, but me, so they ate at the aquarium cafe. I could not eat. My nerves were getting the better of me. We still had time to burn before our "departure", so we walked down the city streets and browsed through some stores. On our way back to the car, we saw this pretty horse giving carriage rides.

My OH's dad still has no idea where we are taking him. We ask if he has any idea at all. He said no. When we pull into the parking lot, his dad says "Oh, if I would have known we were doing this, I wouldn't have eaten as much. I thought the reason Paint Girl didn't eat was because she just wasn't feeling well". Um, yeah, I wasn't feeling well, but it had nothing to do with me being sick.

I don't like flying. I think it has to do with my fear of heights. But I tolerate it on a "bigger" plane. Now you see, we weren't going to be flying on a "bigger" plane. Nope. We would be flying on an 8 seat float plane. Yep, a float plane, with only 8 seats, can we say small? Taking off from the water, sightseeing from the sky, then landing back on the water. To be on a plane that small, that involves water takeoff's and landings, yep, a big fear, not to mention I am a little claustrophobic. I sure have a lot of "fear" issues, don't I? And to find out that my OH's dad has a fear of flying too. Hmmm....this could be very interesting.

So we go in to the airport and check in. They say that it looks like our plane is on schedule and for us to take a seat. We went out on the deck that overlooks the lake and another float plane that will be taking off with passengers to their destination. People actually commute to work in float planes, land them at this airport, go to work, then go back to the airport and fly home. All in a float plane. I sure would hate to have to do that! But I guess they wouldn't have to sit in rush hour traffic!
After waiting for half an hour or so, the guy comes out to us and says that our plane is stuck at the other airport, due to weather (seriously?), and won't make it back for our flight. Whew! But they wanted to reschedule. Lovely. So guess what I will be doing this weekend? Yep, going up in a float plane!
As we were being told about our cancellation for the day, we watched this plane head off on the water. This will be me in a couple days..........................

oh that's too weird, were you in Seattle on Sunday? I swear I passed that horse and carriage around the same time you took that picture! What a fun flight that must have been:)
Cool pictures! I think you will be okay. It will be nerve-wracking, but once you land again safely, you will say hey- I'm still alive and that was kinda cool! ;) Next time, you'll be asking to go up in a helicopter, LOL!
Way to face your fear! That must've been stressful, and you didn't even end up going up! I'm sure it'll be fun, and remember, they wouldn't offer "rides" to the public if it wasn't extremely safe!
Can't wait to see pictures of the "real thing" next week.
Oh no! Not a reschedule... your poor nerves!
Both my husband and father in law are pilots certified to fly float planes. I've gone up alot of times, so I'm used to it. I can get a bit motion sick, but I just open the window and get some fresh air.
It is a really cool feeling - those pilots are really experienced and take safety and weather really seriously - so try and let that reassure you a bit... (just ask the pilot to NOT do any "humpty-dumptys"...)
Paint Girl - I am with you on the flying bit...but I do think you will enjoy yourself AFTER it is over and you can reflect back on it. That is terrible that you didn't get to go - it just prolongs your fear. Good Luck!
AMEN on both the crowd *issues* AND flying. AND being claustrophobic. My cousin is a pilot. Keeps telling me he'll take me for a ride. I said it would be pointless, as he would have to knock me out to get me ON the plane, and KEEP me knocked out during the entire flight. (He just laughs at me. Being bigger than my husband and built like a bear, Josh could easily manage to knock me for a loop or three!)
Hang in there girl. I'll be praying for a steady stomach for you!
Poor you ! I have a hard and fast rule ,I f I can see the entire plane up close in one glance ,I AM NOT GETTING ON IT .I don't even like the smaller comuter planes like the ones that go VAncouver to Seattle.I love the Seattle Aquarium. (is that wher you were?)
Sorry for the nerves, but srsly, those Kenmore Air pilots are topnotch. I am jealous!
We have a life-sized artistic replica of Seattle Aquarium's Giant Pacific Octopus installed in my library. I love having a 33-ft creature above my head while I'm shelving comic books!
Don't they make a paste for calming? LOL...oh yea, that's for horses...maybe a quick shot of your favorite adult liquor. Enjoy!
Somehow, even after 15+ years working for an airline and flying at least several times a month, somehow, I've built up a fear of flying, too. I think it started with all the 9/11 chaos and ust made me open my eyes up to the fact that flying in an airplane is not the same as riding a roller coaster at a theme park. gah!
That being said, there are two things I'd love to fly in, on my Bucket List, and that would be a float plane and a helicopter.
Do it, just to say you did. And enjoy this once in a lifetime experience. How lucky you are that you have the opportunity!

I dont like flying either!! I can still count on one hand how many times I have flown in my 43 years!
I have to have motion patches when I do fly. Have flown in a small cesna one time, as a kid, it was cool, but didnt like it.
I avoid flying as much as I can!
I hate flying, too. I certainly couldn't get in a plane that small. And the fact that it can't go up in bad weather? It's a SIGN! I'll be thinking of you!
I've never been on a plane before, so I would be pretty nervous as well. Aquariums are always crowded unfortunately; the last time I went I could hardly see the fish or anything! Good luck with flying; I'm sure everything will be fine!
Oooooo.....I so feel for you, Paint! I do not like flying, either, especially in tiny planes.
But hey, the aquarium is pretty neat! I've not been there in years.
Awww...Sounds like you have lots of company in the 'fear of flying' department.
My Honey and I are forgoing commercial flying as much as possible these days, simply because of the economy and all of the cuts. Makes a person wonder about proper maintenance. :O
But when it comes to the little private planes...I LOVE them. I think it would be so cool to take a ride in a float plane or a helicopter. I guess I got over my hesitation about tiny little planes when I started taking rides with our neighbor (back in SD), who would land and take off in the field next to our ranch house. It was so amazing to see our ranch from the air.
I don't think I could do it. I get motion sickness really easily and I would not be a fun passenger. Plus I would be terrified.
Very cool - I am glad you got to go. You know sometimes we make horses "all our life" and forget to take time to enjoy other things. I am happy that you went and had a little fun anyways.
I have always wanted to fly on one of those float planes, but I like to fly...lol!!! Too bad the flight was rescheduled....
So, Seattle is about 40 miles south of you, nd it is about 50 miles north of me, so we must live about two hours apart. Give or take a few minutes...
My DB is a private pilot and so I've spent a little time in the air in planes smaller than the one you're going to be in. I used to not be a great flyer... once I was in the air I was okay but take off and landings made me nervous. Once I started learning more about flying and understood what was going on I actually found that my fear disappeared and instead it was neat to watch the magic of it all unfold. My advice is to watch a video on flying! The science of it all is really amazing and simple and it changes the way you look at flying.
I hope you have a great time:P
Wow, that sounds like a great birthday gift! Very exciting for his dad. You're very supportive to go up with them, feeling like you do...:-) Can't wait to see you at the Pony Cousin Stampede!
WOW! I think you just need to take a lot of drugs, and get some cowgirl courage!!! Your next post will probably say that you are going to take up flying!!! HUGS!
I traveled quite a bit for work the last few years. Flying is a necessary evil. I do not like it. And do get kind of queezy. I started to take dramimine and just sleep. I am not clausterphobic but sitting so close to that many strangers creeps me out.
Good for you for being a good sport fo your OH dad. You are definitly taking one for the team!
PAINT GIRRRRL! I shriek with joy for you at getting to buzz around in that plane! That is not to say I would not have a lot of nerves about doing it. But it looks so awsome! And your pictures are so beautiful! You are always up to cool things! I can't wait to hear more about your ride when it actually happens!
