I'm Baaack! And A Deer Rescue!

The long stretch of horse shows is finally done! Wow! What a hectic month and a half! I am so ready for a break! The last show went really well. It was a Regional Championship show and we did awesome! The weather was okay for the most part, we did have rain for a couple days. Now I am off for the next 8 days and I really need it! I have so much I want and need to do. I have a list going and only 2 things have been accomplished so far. But today was mostly spent recovering and trying to catch up on sleep. We pretty much worked 16-17 hour days and very little sleep was had. I slept in until 11:00 a.m. and took a nap for 3 hours later in the day. That tells you how exhausted I was.

When I did get up this morning, I noticed there was a deer in my arena. I figured it jumped the fence and was just hanging out and would jump out when it was done. A little while later I saw another deer hanging outside of the arena and the other deer was still in the arena. After a couple hours I noticed that the deer in the arena seemed really agitated and upset. So I grabbed my camera and went up to open the gate to the arena, thinking that it couldn't get out and that is why it seemed so agitated. I get up there and realized that the second deer had jumped into the arena too and now there were 2 deer in the arena.

This guy wasn't too concerned about me. He seemed pretty content where he was. He just walked around and even walked towards me.

But the girl wasn't too happy. She was the one that was really distressed and was pacing the back fence of the arena. She was trotting back and forth and sticking her head out the arena panels. She really wanted to get out.

I was quite concerned for her. I don't know how long she had been in there and I didn't want to stress her out anymore then she already was.

The buck eventually jumped the fence and started eating leaves and grass. But the girl was still very distressed and couldn't quite figure out how to jump out.

I opened the arena gate and stood back. She continued pacing and I finally just left the arena and went to hang out with my Mustang filly for a bit. By the time I left Chance, the female deer was still in the arena. So I just went back to my house. When my OH got home from work and went to feed the horses he said that the deer was gone. I am glad she made it out of the arena and back into the woods. I don't like seeing animals in distress and it makes me feel good that I did my good deed for the day!

Glad you're back =) Wonder what caused them to jump into a sand arena to begin with...

Welcome back! I'm like you, I hate to see animals in distress. Glad she finally made it out though.

Haha didnt think it was possible to cage a deer that easy. You would think if she could get in she could get out, but good for you for rescuing her.

They are so gorgeous! What an awesome up close experience. :) I'm glad they both managed to safely get out of the arena. Thanks for sharing the pictures and story. Enjoy your break! I can't wait for more Chance stories.

Wow, I'd never expect them to jump into the arena like that. Cool close ups though. I'm glad you were there to let her out. That's like my dog- goes under the fence and then can't find his way back again.

Deer are naturally good at dressage. You should have thrown a saddle on one;)
