A Little Bit Of This And That
I survived my 2 days back at work. And it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I only worked 5 hours each day, and that really helped. Although after the first day, my back really started to bother me. I know that if I was still working there, I would really be hurting. Since I haven't been working the last 30+ days, my back has started to really feel so much better. I should say lower back, because that is the part that really bothered me when I worked full time.
It was a beautiful day yesterday, although a little cold. So when I got home from work I went out to groom all of my horses. Chance was eating her grain while I took the shedding blade to her. She was enjoying it so much that she did not care that her hay was only 10 feet away, because once she finished her grain, she just stood there and let me curry to my hearts content. I have to say that Chance is the sweetest horse ever. She loves her people and soaks up the attention. Food was the last thing on her mind as long as I was touching her. And she gives the best kisses! When I was done and went to the gate to leave, she spun around and came up behind me. She wanted to go with me. I mean, who cares about hay when you have a human around, right? Such a sweet, sweet girl.
I then went to Brandy and Fritzy's pasture. They were already munching away on their hay. I started with Brandy. When she sheds, she basically blows half her coat at once. I could have curried her for 6 hours and I would have still gotten clumps of hair out of her. Then it was Fritzy's turn. She sheds out her white pretty quickly, and the black kinda just comes out in fuzz chunks. Once grooming was done, I scooped poop out of their barn. I swear this time of year they only poop inside. But I don't blame them with all the mud that is around here. I spent a good hour and a half with the horses, thoroughly enjoying my quality pony time.
I had my first massage therapy appointment for my neck this morning. Oh my goodness!! It was painful, but it felt so good (is that possible?) The entire massage wasn't painful, but I have so many spots in my neck, shoulders and upper back that are a mess. My massage therapist said I had "extremely unhappy muscles". I was a mess. Part of my problem is I carry all my tension in my upper back and shoulders. I think this has contributed to my neck pain. I have only had one full body massage before just for the heck of it about 15 yrs ago. And I had some deep tissue massage done on my neck while I was in physical therapy 4 yrs ago. I feel better now. I was told to ice a lot today and drink lots of water. She said I could be really sore tomorrow. I will be going to massage therapy once a week for however long I need too. She will be in contact with my Chiropractor too. I sure hope this helps. I do believe this is probably what I needed to do a long time ago. That's okay. I am doing it now and am hoping to see some relief soon!
This Saturday is supposed to be really nice. Low 60's and sunny! Yeah! I'm planning on working with Chance. I will probably only lunge her, since I haven't done too much with her over the winter. I will slowly get her back in shape, then get her back in the surcingle, with bridling to come soon after. I am so excited. All I think about is riding my Mustang this summer!

glad you are getting something done for your neck, I totally understand thr "it hurts but it helps " it can be rough getting those knots out, but it is very well worth it
Lilly sheds the same way... white first, color second. I wonder why they do that?
I'm glad to hear your back and neck have been making progress. It must be such a relief to be feeling better. I regularly see a chiropractor and have recently started getting massages to help out with the skeletal stuff. I'm often in pain, but it also feels good at the same time, so I know how you're feeling. :)
Awwww, Chance sounds like such a sweetie. I have a feeling the two of you are going to be building a tight bond this year :)
Sure hope your back and neck feels better soon.

Bonnie blows her entire coat before her summer one comes in. So goes from hairy to bald to sleek. The first time she did this I freaked and called the vet thinking she had a whole body fungus or mange or something. Boy I felt foolish!
Rosie is just a Yak - it it is literally inches long and comes out like under coat on a dog.
Hi! Do you remember me?? (Kuntry Girl)...I'm finally back to blogging and wanted to say hello! It's fun to read about you and your horses again! :) I can't believe how GORGEOUS Chance has become! It's been hard for me to spend as much time with Caspian as I want for the last couple summers, but I actually got out and lunged him with the baby in the pack the other day! Aren't you just SO excited for summer?? I know I am! :)
She sure is pretty, love the dapples.
Cant wait to see how she has matured this year!
Mine are blowing lots of coat too LOL
As a friend of mine said dont put on chapstick and brush a shedding horse! LOL Or kiss the dog! LOL
Oh my goodness! Of course I remember you. I just figured you were way too busy to blog cuz of the baby (which makes total sense!) So glad you stopped by for a visit and I will come over to to your blog to say hi! Yes can't wait for summer...so tired of the rain and mud!
We're shedding down here in the desert too...Lady never gets as thick as Jesse. have you ever tried a shedding brick...they work teriffic!!!
Are you gonna send Chance to someone to start her???
AJ- I have a shedding brick, I just haven't used it. I think I forgot I had one!!
I am starting Chance myself. I have no doubt that she is going to be really easy to break. She is so good about everything. And if I do run into any problems, I have a few people that I can call to come over and give me help. But I don't think that there will be any problems!! She's gonna be a rock star!!
My goodness...the days and years fly by!! Chance was just a baby a few months ago...right?!? I'm sure you'll be doing a fine job starting her...look forward to seeing your progress.
Take care of yourself...don't work too hard. Happy Easter~
When I first saw that picture of Chance I was shocked...I thought it was recent! I was feeling really bad that my horses still look so hairy. What a gorgeous shine she had last summer!!!!! Does she tie solid? I'm switching to a blocker tie for Beautiful because she pulls back. A friend told me something her massage therapist told her to do for lower back pain--put a tennis ball on the spot that hurt the most and lay on it. I did it and it did help.
Linda, Chance does have a beautiful summer coat and right now it definitely does not look like that! LOL! Soon though! Yes Chance does tie solid. I did a lot of tying last summer and would just tie her and then I would work on stuff close by to monitor her. I have a blocker tie ring down at my tie up spot by the house. I bought it for Brandy since she has a history of pulling back but I use it for Chance too.
I've never heard about laying on a tennis ball before. I just might have to try that! Thanks!
From having my own neck issues this is what I have learned:
watch your jaw, and try to make sure you are not clenching your jaw as the tension hurts the neck.
Wear bra's that cross in the back, or buy those gadgets that allow you to make any bra into one.
Drop your shoulders and do the shoulder stretches often. You know, one arm outstretched across the body, being supported by elbow in opposite arm, and drop the first shoulder. You can move the support arm up and down on the stretched arm and feel the muscles in neck and upper body stretch.
Ice, ice ,ice. twenty minutes at a time.
It's helped me, hope it helps you.
Thank you for the advice Emme! I have been doing a lot of stretches that my chiropractor and massage therapist gave me to work on. I think they have helped a little bit! And I ice, a lot. I don't think I could live without the ice!! It really does help!!
That's great news about your neck and back. I hope the massage continues to help you neck. :D
Chance is so gorgeous! I can't wait to see some current photos of her. :)
Yay for good weather!!
