Time Got Away From Me...

Time sure has gotten away from me. I was quite busy the last week with hockey playoff games, vet appointment for the horses, party at the neighbors and shopping. I wish I could say that it will slow down for me this week, but not quite. Yesterday I received a call from the farm. They asked if I could fill in a couple days this week. So this retired body is going back to work on Tuesday and Wednesday. And I wish I could say that I was excited about it....but I'm not. I have really been enjoying my time being busy with whatever I need to be busy with. Oh well. 2 days isn't gonna kill me, hopefully my back and neck won't hate me for it. Speaking of neck, I have been given a referral for massage therapy. My appointment is on Thursday. My neck is slowly getting better. Slowly. We are hoping the massage therapy will help.

Last week my horses had a vet appointment for their yearly vaccinations and dental work. Brandy and Fritzy were really good patients as usual. I was a little worried about Chance since this was her first dental appt. We used Brandy and Fritzy's big turnout shed for the appt. since the weather has been pretty nasty around here. When Brandy was done, I had her tied inside the shed and when Fritzy was done I just put her outside and let her go. She was pretty out of it, so I figured she wasn't going to go anywhere if she was turned loose. She just rested her lips in the mud and didn't move a muscle.

While those 2 took their naps, I went to get Chance. I wasn't sure how Chance was going to react by bringing her into Brandy and Fritzy's pasture, especially with those 2 hanging out and then having to lead her into the shed with the vet's equipment all over. I led her right into the pasture and she stopped at the shed entrance and gave me the "I don't know about this" look. I gave her a tug and she walked right into the shed. She was so good. She stood super quiet for my vet to give her the sedative shot. She has not been that good for her past shots. But not one problem this time.

My vet gave me a close look at her wolf teeth before she pulled them. I have never seen wolf teeth get pulled before, since this is my first baby and I was never at work when the vet did all the dental on the farm horses. It was quite interesting. Chance had really tiny wolf teeth and they came out without a problem. My vet also removed some caps that had not fallen out yet on their own. They were extremely loose and she said they should have fallen out by now. It's amazing how much they bleed when those caps come out.

Then my vet did some filing on her permanent teeth. My vet said Chance has a really nice mouth and all her permanents are coming in nicely.

Once Chance was done, I drug her back to her pasture so she could finish her long nap. I am so proud of Chance and how she did with her first dental appointment! She was a rock star. Now I am super excited for the weather to start getting better so I can get my filly broke!!

I had all mine done in the fall and they were pretty good, we take them to the vet (cheaper) and use his stocks and most are more worried about going in the stocks than about the filing

lol! The photo of Fritzy resting in the mud cracked me up. It's as if she was thinking..."hmmm, I think I'll do some grazing...um..what am I doing doing here again. zzzz!" lol!

Good girl Chance!

I've got Apache's Spring vet visit set up for next week and farrier's coming tomorrow. It's that time of year again!

I sure hope the massage therapy helps you out.

Equine dentistry sure is interesting isn't it?

Yes equine dentistry is very interesting. My vet specializes in equine dentistry and she told me that she loves working on youngsters! She was super excited to work on Chance and pull her wolf teeth!

My vet and I were laughing about Fritzy resting her nose in the mud. At first I wasn't sure where to put Fritzy because I needed the other half of the shed for Chance, and my vet said just to turn her loose cuz she wouldn't go anywhere. I don't know why I didn't think of that! Probably just worried about Chance and how she would react coming into that situation!

Pippi will be seeing our local Equine dentist soon as well. Coggins and shots are done, now just the dentist and she will be good to go for the season. Glad everything went well. A lot to handle all on your own....

Thanks for the great pictures. I need to schedule the same for Beautiful. Hopefully that mud will clear up soon for you so you can get to work! I'm excited to watch you saddle train Chance this year.

Jesse is a "cheap Drunk" I have to remind the vet not to give him too much of the sedative or he almost falls over!
both of my horses are due soon too!
your Little Chance is a trooper and is going to be a safe steady mount for you!

Awww I'm glad she did so well and got a good report from the dentist. :D It's so cool that we are going through all of the same things with our babies at the same time. :) I have to stop letting your blog get away from me lol.

I don't think I mentioned in my post about Chrome getting his teeth done, but he was in stocks at the vet clinic and my husband held his head while he woke up. It was so precious since my hubby isn't the lovey dovey type with critters. :D
