So on to what you all thought I should do with my life! Even though you haven't known me that long, you all came up with the key word, animals! This is actually something I have been wanting to do for so long but I have put it off due to money, being comfortable (but not happy!) in the job I am in and let's not forget all the vacation time and benefits! So let me tell you what my dream is and how I can try to make that dream a reality.
I have spent almost my whole life surrounded by animals, animals of all kinds. My real dream would be to rescue horses, dogs and cats and rehabilitate them. I just don't see how that can happen anytime soon so I'll just keep on dreaming.........
I have had a passion for animals for so long that I feel this is where my destiny should take me. I have always wanted to work in an environment surrounded by animals, but due to said issues above, I never pursued what I felt I should be doing with my life. I feel that my company going out of business was meant to be, a way out of a very unhappy career I had chosen for myself. I wasn't always unhappy in what my chosen career was, I just believe it took me way too long to realize what I should be doing with my life.
Besides my real dream of rescuing animals, I have always wanted to work in a veterinary clinic. I can still use all of the skills I use in my current career while working with animals that I love so dearly. I don't have to work at a vet clinic, I would be just as happy working for an animal shelter, preferrably a no-kill shelter or even working at a horse barn. It doesn't matter where really, just as long as animals are involved. I would even work part time to get my foot in the door. All I know is that this is what I have wanted for a long time and this is something that I have put off for way too long, and I am determined to make this dream become a reality!
On Sunday I spent all day preparing my resume, something I have never had to do, I guess that is what happens when you spend 18 long years in one place! My sis helped me so much and I would like to thank my Pony Girl from the bottom of my heart! She took some time away from her boy and stayed later than usual at my house to finesse the details of my resume. You will get a little something soon for all your efforts my dear sis!
So now that I have a resume prepared, I will be doing some job hunting. Wish me luck, I know I will need it in these tough economic times!

I will pray for your efforts. Hang in there -- you have a lot of company! Maybe you can take some courses to be a vet tech?
You seem to have a pretty good approach to the whole situation and I applaud you for that. I haven't updated my resume in 5 years and that is daunting, let alone 18!
It sounds like you have a good plan and I'm sure something will come through for you when you are ready for it.
Good luck!I missed the post about your company shutting down , Sorry to hear that .Though you are obviously a great employee and loyal ,to have been at the same job 18 years, that also should gp in your favor for a new employer. Again best of luck
Paint Girl-
Thanks so much for the award!!! I have been so busy that this morning was the first time I have been able to even check out my blog.Crazy, I know...lol!!! I think I may have to take a three week blogger vacation while I try to make it through finals.
Sorry to hear about your job, but sometimes thing happen for a reason, right? I hope you can find a job working with animals, as it is very rewarding. I worked as a vet assistant for 10 years, and it was a wonderful opportunity.
Good luck!! :)
Of course, I am always willing to help! I actually like working on that kind of thing (no, don't get any wild ideas, hee hee! ;) I also had a lot of great input from the ladies at work. It takes a village....and I know your dream job is out there. It just has to be the right timing!! Once someone meets you and hears you talk about your passion, you're in! Hang in there! xo
If I weren't that I enjoyed working so much with people too, I would have studied animal behavior and probably ended up working with abandoned animals. As it is, I work with sustainable development and enjoy a garden full of pets. Looking forward to part III on this one! ;-)
You have been dreaming about working with animals for years, so although I am sad your current job is coming to an end, I am happy for you to finally be reaching for your dreams. I admire you for your positive attitude. I heard a quote the other day and since I think it fits your current situation, I want to share it with you: "You can't hit a home run unless you step up to the plate!" It may take several strikes to find the perfect job, but at least you are wiling to put forth your best effort! Oh, and about this OH of yours, getting married for the sake of health insurance is as good of reason as any, at least in my book!!! (Spoken from someone who got married for dental insurance.) Best of luck to you ~ OXOX from you pony cousin.
i know you will find something that you will like! you seem strong and determined. good luck!
Best of luck to you Paint Girl! I'm sure you'll find something great!
It is really scary out there right now. We are in real estate, so I don't have to tell you how desperate we have been for the last 2 years. I had to get a full-time job and leave the business to John. And now where I work, they have had to lay off 1/3 of the workforce around the 1st of the year. It is not getting better, and I heard thru the grapevine that there may be more layoffs and/or hours cut in the future. But it sounds like you can be flexible with your next job, and with the experience of owning and caring for so many animals you should be a pretty strong candidate. Let us know how it goes.....
I know you will find the job of your dreams and have a wonderful adventure of growth in the process!!!
Sure sounds like you've got the right perspective on this turn of events. The energy and enthusiasm you have for working with animals will be obvious to a potential employer and will surely help you land a job of your dreams.
You definitely have my prayers!!!! I know you will do great in anything that involves animals!!! They would be so lucky to have you!!
ps- your sis is a great gal!!!
Sounds like you're putting all the right pieces in place, step by step. It will take time, but if you keep sending out the energy in the right direction, I have no doubt that you'll find a job that you love. Just don't get discouraged. I've worked freelance most of my career and I find that no matter what, if I do at least one thing - no matter how small, how boring or how odious - every day- to move forward towards the goal, it will pay off. Persistence can not be underestimated! I wish you all the best, Paint Girl - Your instincts are right on target!
Oh my! I wish we could get together for coffee (or whatever you drink)! I haven't lost my current job like you have, but have been doing the same kind of thinking. My dream job would be to go work at some place like Dogtown in Utah (they have show on National Geographic Channel). I'd like to get a degree as a vet tech, but at my age and the cost of it, it seems like a silly idea to work hard at something like that and end up making half the amount of money. Like you, money keeps me at my job - for 29 years! Thinking about relocating has me once again struggling with the changing job decision. Seems insane in this economy and at my age.
