If Money Didn't Matter

When we were on our Pony Cousin's Stampede trip, my cousin Jac asked my sister and I, if money didn't matter, what breed of horse would we get? I always think about what my next breed of horse will be. We all have our favorites. I have mentioned in previous posts about certain breeds I'd love to own next. But I would like to go into a little bit more detail about why I would choose certain breeds for my next horse.

I told my cousin Jac, that if money didn't matter, and I had all the money in the world, I would definitely get an Arabian or Paint. I have a tendency to lean towards an Arab, only because I have never had a purebred Arab. As a young girl, I thought that Arabs were the prettiest horses out there. A girl in my 4-H group had 2 Arabs and I just adored them. I showed Appaloosa's as a teen, I was really into color, loud color! The more spots the better for this girl! Now that I am grown up and have gotten back into horses again, I was very fortunate to have a certain horse enter my life 5 yrs ago. That horse would be Brandy, my 14 yr old Arab/Paint. This would be the first time an Arab has really been in my life. Even with all of Brandy's issues, I don't blame it on the Arab breed. Yes, she has all the Arab characteristics, that is why I just say "my Arab". The only Paint in her is what's left of her bay and white paint markings. She is all Arab, and I don't say that in a negative way. I whole heartily believe that if Brandy was given the time and training as a youngster, she would have been the ultimate western pleasure, huntseat, country pleasure, dressage, gaming and trail horse out there. She has all of that in her. She still isn't fully trained, and I would still like to do dressage and country pleasure with her someday. I know she could do it. So this is why if money didn't matter, I would get an Arabian (purebred). I get to see Arabians in the show world a lot, since my really good friend/trainer trains and shows them. Every now and than you see the usual "flighty" Arab, but for the most part they are not what everyone makes them out to be. There are a lot of really good Arabs out there.

I took this picture at an Arab show a year ago. I have always been partial to bays.

Here's another picture I took from that same Arab show. I love the dapple grays, but my next horse will not be white or gray!!

The next breed I told my cousin I would get, if money didn't matter, is a Paint. Of course! I already have a Paint, so I know how they are. I love stock breeds. Big, stocky and muscular! I like my men the same way. Kiddin'!!! My Paint Fritzy, is my Pocket Paint. That is what I call her. Either you love her personality, or you don't. So the reason I would want another Paint is for their color, stockiness and personality. And I can't get enough of that big Painted butt! My OH wouldn't want any other horse, he loves Fritzy, quirks and all! This is why I am Paint Girl, I have a Paint and a half!

The picture below is of my trainer M, (on the left), on Phantom, a Paint stallion from a local ranch. He is a reining/western pleasure Paint. On the right is C, on Caberet, who is the owner of both Paints. For some reason I am very partial to black and whites.
Hmmm... I wonder why?

This here is me, at my first schooling show on Fritzy. I think I look good on a black and white, don't ya think?

Now I did tell my cousin Jac, that if money did matter, I would get a Mustang. I have always wanted to adopt a Mustang. As a kid, I remember there use to be commercials on t.v. about adopting a wild Mustang. I wanted to get one so bad! But I was only around 10 yrs old. Now that I am in my 30's, I have been thinking about it for a few years now. I have heard a lot of people say "Why would you want a Mustang?" and to quote part of a letter that was written to Western Horseman, "We need to build at least three horse slaughter plants and make transport regulations friendlier for hauling horses to slaughter everywhere, including Canada and Mexico. We need to slaughter thousands of worthless Bureau of Land Management horses. Let's use some common sense for a change. There's no such thing as an "American Mustang." These are feral scrubs, dinks that nobody wants." Really? Well, Mr. Arizona Man! This might be your view on the Mustang, but who made you decide for everyone else, that Mustangs are "feral scrubs, dinks that nobody wants?" and "worthless BLM horses!" Did you ever think that the Mustang is the innocent victim in this situation? Seriously!?! I have heard it all, but you know what? That is a bunch of sh**! (Auntie DR, please put 25 cents in your cuss jar for me!). I have seen, heard and read about these amazing horses. They can be trained to do anything a domesticated horse can do! Plus I have witnessed in front of my very eyes, how these horses are when trained. If you aren't a believer, please visit Mustang Diaries or Mustang U. Mustangs are strong, talented and beautiful horses!!

This is Liberty. She was a Sale Authority Mustang that was saved, due to some very wonderful people that donated the money to give her a chance at a decent life. It isn't the horses fault that they are running wild out there. That is what they are, and we should do everything we can to help the wild horses, make sure they get adopted into loving homes.

Liberty is now being gentled, in hopes of getting that
"forever" home. She has a 3 month old filly, Chance, at her side. I took these pictures right after they were "saved". They are now in good hands. And the future couldn't be brighter for these 2!!

It breaks my heart, to hear people talk bad about Mustangs. They are innocent, beautiful animals. This is one of the reasons I would adopt a Mustang. To make sure one more animal is saved, given that chance at a good life.

So I ask all of you.
What breed of horse do you think I will end up with in the future? An Arabian? A Paint? A Mustang? For everyone that answers the correct breed of horse, that I will get next in my life, will be entered into a drawing for a prize. Yep, this Paint girl is finally going to have a drawing! All correct answers will be put into a hat, and I will draw a name and announce the winner on my 100th post, which is coming up, right around the corner!
Good luck!!

Well, since money DOES matter, you'll probably get a paint.

100 posts — you go girl! Stay tuned, my 200th is fast approaching and I'm having another drawing.

Paint Girl - I think a Mustang is your next horse. You have the other two and your Brandy and Fritzy are the best. You have such nice trail rides on them!

Fun and interesting post! I like learning about what bloggers dream about! I vote for a baby out of that black and white stallion (of course I'm partial to black and whites too). I can still remember when nobody wanted them (especially Tobianos) and called them junk... now they are in vogue and I have one! You'll probably get a Mustang though. A good horse is a good horse regardless of color or breed if it's gotten proper training! I'm looking at Simba....I think that is the cutest cat I've ever seen with that white on the nose!

Hey did you adopt Liberty and the filly?

You've already got your dream horses, Arab and Paint!
I would have a Friesian or an Andalusian. I fell in love with the big black ones when I saw the movie Ladyhawke and dear Goliath.
Right now, with the economy so poor, many Arabian farms are having hard times and liquidating their herds. You can get some very quality Arabians for under $1K!

I think I would buy a really really nice QH or Paint Horse that is an awesome Weastern Pleasure horse. Sigh.....oh I can't wait for the day when I have one of those......

A mustang of course. What a good choice. BLM is so far from here or I would adopt one in the near future.

Paint girl , life has a funny way of messing with our plans,so I would guess APPY. any horse that comes to you will be lucky and well loved. Though you seem to be headed down the path of Mustangs so here's hoping

Hi Paint Girl, I like what fernvalley01 said. I really like the idea of the mustang. I grew up in Oregon and heard about Dayton O. Hyde. He has a place and rescues mustangs. Thought maybe you would like to check out his website. http://www.wildmustangs.com/daytonohyde.html
Good thinking and luck in your choice of horse.

You'd better show your OH the part you wrote about liking "big, stock, muscular men", ha ha!
I can see you with a pb Arab next, or a Mustang, but probably not a paint. How about a pinto Mustang? We saw one on the trail once that was pretty cool!
If I was in the market for another horse, anytime soon, it would have to be another been-there-done that kind of horse. I would probably look for another Appy, Morgan, or Mustang. I don't see myself with a Mustang (unless it's fully gentled and mostly trained) until I have horses on my own property and someone to help me train and gentle them. If I got a Morgan, it would be an old-style or ranch bred, not the hot show type. If it was an Appy, it would definitely have color!
By the way, maybe you should email Blue-Eyed Tango and let her know you are shipping Simba out to her tomorrow? (Just don't mention that she has the loudest and most irritating meow on the planet! :)

It's me again. I didn't make my comment clear about Dayton O Hyde. He used to live in Oregon and had a ranch and it is called Yamsi. The ranch is still there but he moved to South Dakota & rescues mustangs.

Arabians are beautiful, but then to me all horses are beautiful. If money didn't matter, I would probably go the adoption/rescue route. But I must admit, as far as breeds, I just LOVE my Tennessee Walking Horse. I was told they have nice dispositions, and I must agree. Or am I partial???

You could breed Fritzy to Slick...and then you would have a half & half paint! TW's are nice rides!!!

If I lived in the states, and money didn't matter, I'd go for a Mustang too - no big surprise, seeing they have barb blood in them! Arabs are beautiful too...

Here's my guess for your next breed of horse: A PAINT!!!!!!!!!
And that is what my next breed would be too, if I thought that I might be lucky enough to have TWO horses!
I figure if it ain't broke....

I think it is great that we like the same breeds/types of horses!!! This one is kind of hard, because if you were going to buy a horse, I would say you would buy an Arabian over a Paint, but if you are looking into adoption, then I would have to go with the Mustang.

Hmmmmm....I will go out on a limb and say that you will buy an Arab! :)

I think you will have a mustang-you seem like a sucker for a rescued animal (like me!). Personally I would love to have a palomino paint in my future!

I've always been partial to bays too! And although Applejack is mostly white I've never really wanted a horse that is all/mostly white or grey... too much work to keep clean!! lol

Arabs get a bad rap and I have to agree with you, its not really their fault. I DO think it takes a certain kind of personality to get along with them though.
I wouldn't mind having one, but being that I'm a larger girl I'd have to go for a cross or one of the stockier types.

So now onto my guess... I'm guessing your next horse is a Mustang (heh heh maybe a paint coloured mustang!!)

Nice post Paint Girl...I'm voting for a Rescued Mustang! With all your stories about how you feel about them, I see you giving one a wonderful home.

Great post Paint girl! I think that you have your Nana Vi's talent! I have always pictured in my mind you getting Albert!! I think that you and him would make a great team and I could always see him!! But for the contest I am saying a mustang! That totally so fits you and your love of animals! Love you, Auntie

I think a Tennessee Walking Horse is in the cards for me. When I was a child, I had a herd of Breyer horses. My two favorites were a dappled Percheron and Midnight Sun - a Tennessee Walking Horse. I already got my dappled gray in Gabbrielle, now I just need that Cadillac ride of a TWH.

However, I feel a Mustang coming on for you. That's another breed I've been a bit obsessed with.

Have you seen the Gypsy Vanner horse breed? If money was no object, that's what I would get. I think they are beautiful and supposed to be sturdy, steady horses. But I think you are dreaming about mustangs.

Hmmm - tough one! I'm going with mustang for your next horse - you seem to like the idea of rescues... maybe you could get a coloured mustang.

Congrats on the upcoming 100th post!

Hmm. For me, a buckskin, preferably a mustang (but I'll leave the training to someone else...).

I suspect there is a paint mustang out there for you!

My gut is saying Mustang, but I have a feeling that if the right Arabian came your way, you'd be all for it!! :) I'm a total Arabian girl. However, I think our next horse will be something with a little more bulk for Kuntry Boy. Maybe an Arab/QH...or an Arab/Appy. Or an Arab/anything else with some bulk. He he...yep, total Arab girl here. I'm so thankful for my dream horse. He literally is the horse I dreamed about and drew pictures of as a kid. Gotta love having the horsies in our lives!

I'm going to go with Mustang....The reason I chose this is because I think you follow your heart alot and I know how much you love these mustangs!!

And I totally agree with you on the Mustang situation!! Also the trainer on the horse where the lady is next to her and she owns both, I'm guessing are the horses related?? They are gorgeous and they look alot alike! I also think you look great on a big black and white paint!!

My guess would be any horse that needs saving! You have such a soft heart where animals are concerned. Your whole family does. Maybe a mustang, you seem to be fascinated with them right now. So my guess would be a mustang that needs rescued.

I believe you will finally get your beloved mustang. You love a project and you appreciate the plight of the mustangs, and you would probably also love a piece of 'American History'. But most of all, you love to trail ride and mustangs are built for the trails through body and mind.

So, of course, I say MUSTANG!!

And they come in bay, too!

Oh, that's a tough one. I'm partial to arabs, so I'm leaning towards that answer, but I think my gut is saying mustang for you. I think if money was no object I'd still go with a cute little quarter horse, but do a finished reiner or cutter. One that wasn't started too young and ridden too hard, of course. *drools thinking about it*

yanno what I dont understand? Why can't they just leave the horses to run free? No need to slaughter them at all.
