Technology Frustration and Food!

I had my first real computer frustration yesterday. Since I got my computer up and running again 2 yrs ago, after a long 6 yrs without one at home, I have not encountered any problems. Until last night. I had a Malware attack. That is when a screen pops up saying that you are under attack, and you have a worm in your email, it is critical that you sign up for virus protection etc. You can't get the screens to go away and new ones keep popping up. No matter what I did, they wouldn't stop. I thought it odd, considering since I have virus protection and it never came up saying anything was wrong. I finally called my sister, and she told me it was all fraud and she had one a while ago. She said to try to get out of all the screens. I couldn't get out. I was freaking out. I have never had this happen to me before. I finally got the big screen to go away but a little icon at the bottom of my screen (sorry, I am not very literate with computer lingo) that was not there before, some Personal Anti Virus that kept popping up to say I must act now, and it was critical I did something and all my personal information was going to be stolen. My sister searched online to try to find some info for me and found exactly what was happening to my computer. So I had to download something that would scan and remove Malware. I did that. Finally the Personal Anti Virus screens quit popping up. But after I re-booted my computer, I couldn't get online or email. So that left me to wait until the next day to call my cable company, where I get my high speed internet from. I called them and they could see nothing wrong from their end. They thought that my AVG anti virus protection was preventing me from getting online, which could be caused by the Malware attack. So there was nothing I could do, until my super handy computer geek came home from work, the one and only, neighbor J! I called him up, he came over right away. He tried all sorts of things. Nothing was working. He even called his tech guy from work, tried a few more things. Nothing. I was getting even more stressed as the time went by. How am I going to live without a computer for more than a few days? Finally, neighbor J was down to 2 more options of what he could do. He figured out there was nothing wrong with my modem, the cable, the hard drive etc. He said it had to be in the software. He decided to do a System Restore, which would delete all downloads that were on my computer from the last day. Fine! I hadn't downloaded anything. If it works, lets do it. He did it and guess what? My internet and email are back up!! Yay!! Thank you neighbor J!! You are a lifesaver, seriously! I am so happy that I know someone that is so technically savvy. My OH barely knows how to turn the computer on! If it wasn't for J, I probably would have just gone and bought a new computer! He saved me some money! Oh, I was actually on Playlist when the Malware attack occured. I don't know if any of you have had a problem with that before. I have never had a problem with Playlist, and now I am scared to go back there!

I really thought I was going to be computer-less for more than 24 hours. I even scribbled some things on a piece of paper for my sister, I was going to have her do a blog post for me!! Now she doesn't have too, although I was kinda looking forward to what my sister would really say and write!! I think it would have been fun, who knows, maybe I will have her be a guest someday....

It's been a busy week. We have been stocking up on hay for the horses. We went and loaded up 70 bales of hay the other evening. Than the next day we had to unload 70 bales of hay. Now this is a big load!! These bales were a lot heavier than we usually get, so my poor OH was hurting after loading all of that on the truck and trailer. I have to drive through the field while he loads, so I don't have to load it onto the trailer. I love that I get the easy job!

Guess who finally figured out how to get on top the hay? Sadie! She has been wanting to do that for so long. She is not a jumper!! It's so funny that Bailey and Sadie are the same breed, because Bailey can jump so high, and poor Sadie can only bounce!

My sister came up to return my car to me. Her car broke down at my house the other day. She had to use my car until a loaner car from the dealer became available. Her transmission went out. Good thing it didn't happen on the freeway! So she helped us unload hay. It can be difficult to do with 2 dogs and 2 humans on the trailer! But we got it done. At least the horses/goats will be fed for the next 4 months or so! I also went to the pet store and bought dog food and treats. Now I guess we need to go to the store to buy human food!

My cat Domino fell asleep while reading New Moon, the 2nd book in the Twilight series. How is that possible?

For those of you who haven't taken a guess at what breed of horse I will some day get, go here to take a chance at winning a prize! You have time to enter. I think I have around 8 more posts to go before I do the drawing, and post the winner on my 100th post!!

That last picture is hilarious! Glad you got the computer back....what a nightmare!! I think we all have such a love/hate relationship with technology, don't you think? :)

I hear your computer pain. I know and love System Restore. I started using it and I am addicted. Any glitch and I restore. Our problem here though that can't be fixed is our internet connection. We have DSL but any rain or storm knocks us out. You know how much rain we had this summer - all of yours - so no internet. Ugh!
I love the hay pictures. A hard job that we all do. I always am sore after stacking the hay, but I feel so fit! Your hay puppies are cute.

That malware, I've deleted it off of more computers of friends and family than I can count. You don't happen to be using internet explorer do you? That is most likely your problem right there. See you know when you download something a popup comes up asking you if you want to save or open the file? Well IE has a glitch that it can be bypassed and that essentially is how people get a lot of viruses.
You cant get a virus from playlist because you don't download anything and I believe it's certified virus free if I can find the documentation.

Computers are fabulous when everything is working, but when there is a problem it is a nightmare! I would be panicking too - the thought of going for a couple of days without it is too much!!! The hay scenes are too familiar -- we need to start getting stocked up, too. Usually we have a cat on top of our load of hay...Love the cat sleeping with the book.....

I had a new follower one time that I went to, and when I got to his site, I got attacked with like 20 different kinds if virisis. Our security fixed it, but I was panicked for a moment. I asked Dad if I should go back and see if it happened again, I did, and it didn't. It was weird. His site seemed to be legit, but I haven't been back since. I also had someone that was affiliated with him add to my follower list, but I didn't go to his either. I think they are both techie guys, so you never know if they set traps on purpose or not. I get custody of your sister today! I get to help set up her garage sale. I love doing that, but I have the Man Cub, so that should be interesting.

Those kind of viruses are such a pain. I have my own thoughts about what we should do with the sociopaths who get some sick pleasure out of terrorizing people through computers.

I am not trying to be a crap - really I'm not when I say this - but I have had a mac since I was a kid and have never encountered those problems...ever. I think everyone should have one. I know they are more expensive but I buy new computers less often because, well, they just don't ever give me trouble - and you can upgrade them to the hilt. I have one upstairs that is 10 years old - still running fine. You could count on one hand how many times its crashed and I have never purchased or downloaded virus protection software. I usually buy a new computer when I notice the newer ones are so incredibly faster than my old one or when I can afford it.

Anyway off my soapbox now - I realize everyone can't run out and buy a mac - so no worries. Hope you are having a great summer chickee!

Sydney~ I quit using IE about 2 months ago. IE and blogger weren't getting along very well. So I use Firefox. Love it!! It really works well with blogger and about anything else I do! Hopefully this won't happen again!

Aw man! No fun! Good thing for techie neighbors for sure!! You might try downloading malwarebytes software. A guy at work got this same virus recently & that's what our computer guy used to get it cleared off. It's free...

Glad you got all stocked up on hay! I'm thinking I will be doing the same on Sunday. Gotta clean out the tack/hay room first. Weird to be thinking about stockpiling for winter but she'll be here before we know it! Yikes!!!

Paint Girl, I am so non-computer savvy that I total sympathize with that scary computer event you had! Sometimes I want to take the computer and throw it out a closed window because I love the idea of smashing it to bits with glass and creating a huge and satisfying clatter. I am glad that you were able to get everything back in order. Thank goodness for J!!!!
Boy is that a big pile of hay!

What would you do without your OH! He is such a hard worker!! He's a keeper!

Nice looking hay. I'm in a quandary about whether I should buy some more or whether I'll be moving before I run out. I hate waiting too long and then scrambling. Thanks for you comments on my blog about dog kennels. You've been a big help!

I'm with you on the Firefox....I had to quit IE a couple of months before you did and I love Firefox!! I too had the same problem with the Malware a couple of months ago and I ended up going through my Internet Co to walk my through the steps to fix it!!

We are going to be doing the hay fun again ourselves...Gotta stock up for the winter!!

I hate people who mess with our computers creating viruses and laware stuff. A curse on them all!

I've gotten creepy messages popping up sometimes when I visit Play List, too. I immediately click on my back arrow button and leave the page for a few minutes. When I come back I don't get that same message. Weird, huh?

But I love those computer/techno geeks! Hooray you've got one as very helpful neighbor. Whoohooo!

And look at Sadie as Queen of the Hay!

Oh man! I totally feel your computer pain! I got a nasty virus on my work computer while I was "hard at work" reading textsfromlastnight.com. Oops! It was apparently a nasty one that attached to the reboot something or other so every time they tried to wipe my hard drive and re-install all of my stuff, it would pop up again. It took our savvy tech guys a day and a half to get it all removed. Today is the first time I've had a chance and been brave enough to read blogs and post comments again! Fingers crossed nothing happens! ;)

Nice looking hay! We've been doing that too and I usually get the easy job as well. This year the hay guy that we've been going to got some new machine that stacks it for him so the boyfriend didn't even need me! Yay!
