I Am In Love!

Okay, I have to admit it,
I am in love! I love my baby! I had a really good day yesterday. I went to go see Chance. I wasn't sure what to expect. I get there and walk up to their corral and the last time I did that, both Liberty and Chance ran away from me, to the far side of their corral. This time, they actually walked up to the fence to greet me. I set my camera, water and keys down to go get a chair. I walk back up to their corral with the chair, thinking to myself, I bet this is going to spook them. Nope. Liberty backed off a little, but Chance, she stuck right by that gate. I had to push the gate in so Chance didn't escape. She was so curious in what I was doing. I put the chair down and sat in it. Chance came right up to me and sniffed my hand. She didn't want to leave me. She eventually walked away to go eat some hay. Liberty stayed back on the far side of the corral but she was relaxed. She was more wary of me the last time I came to visit.

I went to get the grain tub, Chance followed me over to it, than followed me back to my chair. I put a couple carrot flavored treats in the tub. She tried them out. She didn't like the real carrots I tried to give her last week, but she really liked the carrot flavored treats. She ate one, than sniffed my legs, knees, hands, and than she brought her nose right up to my face and sniffed it. I think she likes me! She walked away for a bit but kept coming back for more sniffs. She was way more comfortable with me than the last time.

I noticed that Liberty kept inching her way closer to me as well.

And closer, until she was only about 2 arms lengths away from me.

She actually got within a foot of me, but my camera batteries died and I was so busy switching out the batteries, that I couldn't get any pictures! I am so mad at myself! Why didn't I check my batteries before I entered the corral? By the time I got my batteries switched out, Liberty moved on to the water trough. I guess there will be a next time.

Liberty saw something in the distance. It was just a cat crossing the road.

I watched Chance drink water, lick her salt block and I heard her whinny for the first time!!!!!

I also got to see Chance lay down in the fresh shavings and roll! Here she is just laying down.

She is rubbing herself into the shavings.

Oh, I bet that feels so good!

Here goes the roll!

Standing up and shaking off! Such a silly girl!

Back to eating hay, like nothing happened.

I was very happy with how Chance responded today. She spent most of her time hanging out by me, checking me out. She was never spooky or fearful. She was just curious. If I got up out of the chair and moved somewhere, she would immediately follow me. I was also so happy to see Liberty come up to me as well. I still haven't petted Chance, but I don't want to rush anything. I will take the sniffing of the hand, knee and face. As long as she knows I am not there to cause her any harm, and until she gets used to me, than I will let her sniff me as much as she wants. When I opened the gate to the corral to leave, both Chance and Liberty walked up to the fence to see where I was going. Don't worry girls, I will be back!

To top off my most excellent day, we went fishing again. The fish weren't really biting, BUT I still did happen to catch ONE, while my OH and his friend didn't catch ANY!! Now how is that for out-fishing the guys?!?
Again!!!!

Oh and before I go, I have to leave you with another baby photo, I just couldn't resist! I know, I am such a dork! When my OH got home from work, I showed him the pictures of Chance, and he's going through them and he says to me "You are so losing it!!" Oh No, my dear OH, I am not losing it, I am IN LOVE!!

I do have to thank ONE person for giving me this opportunity of adopting this special baby. Tracey, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! Without you, I would not be fulfilling my dream of owning a Mustang, at least not for many years to come! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Oh, Happy Day! What a sweet post about your new little pumpkin girl. She is the most precious little baby! That is so cool that she isn't afraid of you. You are taking it nice and slow to build a tight bond. Good for you! She is really pretty. Chance is lucky to have her new life ahead of her.
Way to show the guys who can fish and who can't!

Girl, don't worry about all the pictures!! We all LOVE them! I love baby pictures and there can never be enough!! :) I am really excited for you and Chance. She is a beautiful girl and I can't wait to see more of her and hear about your stories. It's good to hear that Chance is curious. I have one filly like Chance and the other filly I have is a scardy cat. I would much rather the curiosity.

This is going to be an exciting adventure for you (and us since you'll be sharing it with us.) That is one big fish. You look like you are straining to hold it up, and your biceps are popping out. Hee hee.

You are not only Queen Fishing Chic, you are also Mustang Mama!

Cute baby pics, too. I like the one of her shaking off. lol!
She has huge feet, by the way, true mustang feet. At this point she reminds me of a teenager wearing high top tennies. Long, gangly legs and big feet. Gosh! Is she cute!

Oh it is so dreamy to be in love! Especially with such a little charmer! If she were my little filly I would SO have to resist putting little pink ribbons in her mane. Isn't that totally incorrigible! She's a wild little mustang for cryin out loud!!
Will she be coming home soon? Will you be using the Parelli/Clinton/Natural Horsemanship training on her? I am very thrilled about it all!

We are all excited to see Chance grow up with you and your OH! Jesse was a 2 1/2 year old baby when we got him...you really get to shape their personallity when you get a baby! Same with LL she was born at the stables!!! Can't wait to see Chance in person. Jesse would be happy to start ponying her next summer...he started with LL when she was 6 months old!!!

Ooooh, the internet ate my comment so I'll try again!

Keep posting all the pictures- I love 'em!
What a great tail- I love the red. Wow, it looks like she's going to have a HUGE tail like her mom. When do you actually get to have her? She looks big enough to wean now.

The next time she lays down, if you go to her and lay her head down to the ground and keep her from getting up for just a few minutes, until she quits struggling- she may fight you a little- it really shows that you are alpha to her. Many horse trainers will actually throw a horse to the ground to do this. I don't believe in that, but I do believe in taking advantage of a situation. I got to do this with Yalla! when she was younger and I think it really helps build their trust in you. Now any time she laying down she'll let me come over to her.

Hey there cousin! Great pictures! You just put us all to shame...Fishing too??? Makes my days look boreing...LOLO Really, I'm so happy you are having such great times with Chance. You know I'm partial to that name (Our best, and most missed dog was named Chance)So, I will really enjoy watching her grow! I love that she's approaching you and not spooky.

Honey, you are so, so, SO WELCOME!!! Did you think I had any doubt you'd fall hopelessly in love? Nope, not for one minute. You were gone the moment you first set eyes on her.

And all that ran through my mind was...

Bump
Bump
Bump
Another one bites the dust!

lolol....

You are using such wise decisions in you choices of letting her warm up to you!! It is a process for any foal, so the progress she is already showing is great!!

Once again I say...I am SO-O-O happy for you and Chance!!

Oh and you just keep bringing on the pictures!! We love them all!!

What a lucky girl, that Chance, to have you! :) She is so beautiful, and you are justified to be so proud of her.

Oh, and YAY for winning in the fishing wars... :)

Wow! I sure missed a big one! CONGRATS!!! I am SOOOOO very excited for you!!! I wish there were a better way to type my giddy "Whoo-hoo Paint Girl!!" emotion:) She is BEAUTIFUL!!! Love her color and the expression in her eye. What adventures the two of you are going to have together...I cant wait to hear how she comes along. Having said that my only advice is to remember that a little bit of flight is still a good thing... I rescued a colt that was so timid/untouched when I first got him that I did everything I could to make him confident to new things...and it worked!...however, when it came time to making him move off of me or forward it was really hard to trigger his natural flight response to move away from presure. I am sure you will do amazing with this filly. Just something to keep in mind:)

Fantastyk Voyager said...

How old was she when you first saw her? Can you get any pictures from earlier?

Paint Girl said...

Fantastyk Voyager~ I have a couple pictures of Chance when she was 2 months old and still at the BLM corrals. I also took pictures of Chance when she arrived up here, she was probably 3 months old. You just gave me an idea, I need to do a post on her when she was younger, and show her other pictures!
