Chance's Story

I thought I'd tell the story on how Chance entered my life. I had met a fellow blogger, Tracey, who owns/gentles Mustangs and we have gone trail riding with her. She mentioned to me way back in July about a Mustang and her filly that were in need of some help. I did a blog post on Liberty and filly # 34, to see that post go
here. There are Chance baby pictures!!

Liberty was a Sale Authority mare. She is 11 years old and that meant that if she didn't get adopted than she could be euthanized. Tracey and her crew were able to raise enough money to bring Liberty and her filly home. Also they had a Name That Filly contest over at one of her blogs. I entered 3 names which were Destiny, Freedom and Chance. My name Chance was selected. I was very surprised, considering there were a lot of really good names entered! Was this the beginning of my journey? Yes, I was excited that my name had been chosen, but still had no idea that I would be adopting this filly. Once we found out that Liberty and Chance were being brought to our state, and a little enabling from Tracey, my OH and I discussed the possibilities of adopting her, but we wanted to see her. I emailed Tracey to tell her we were interested in Chance and could we see her. She said yes, that the horses were being brought to a temporary place not far from my house. Chance was just 3 months old here.

Look how skinny Liberty is.

We still wanted to think some more, especially with me not working, we had to make sure that we could do this financially. We always put our animals needs in front of our own. After much talking, asking Tracey if we could see her one more time, just to be sure, we set up a time to go to Tracey's to see her again.

Chance had just turned 4 months in the next two pictures and the one above.

We pretty much made up our minds at this point. Actually, my OH told me after I signed the paperwork, that he was leaving this whole thing up to me. Thanks OH! But I think he knew deep down that I wasn't going to turn down this opportunity, and the chance of fulfilling a dream I have had since I was little.

After we left Tracey's that day, the decision made to bring Chance into our home and our hearts, we passed a road named this....

I am sure you will recognize that sign Tracey!

We decided to keep the adoption quiet until all the paperwork was approved and until we knew that we would be getting her for sure. I didn't want any disappointment.

I went to see Chance again on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, they both greeted me at the gate. Chance sniffed me again, but there was a lot more going on that day, so we didn't get a lot accomplished. Saturday was a very quick visit. Just threw some hay out to them and watched them eat for a bit. It had been raining and it just wasn't a good day to be outside. Doesn't Liberty look so much better? She has been putting on a lot of weight.

After talking to Tracey, we are going to start the weaning process.

We are hoping everything goes well, and that we can bring Chance home in a few weeks.

The sooner I get her home, the sooner we can start some serious work!

This is how our journey has begun.

You lucky gal! Owning a mustang must be a wonderful dream come true for you!! Congratulations!!!! I doubt that I will ever own one, as a kid I too always wanted a mustang. Gilly thinks he is one so that will have to do for me.
Chance is beautiful, you will have fun training her. Can't wait to see more pictures of her when she comes home.

Sometimes you just know when something is meant to be. I'd say that in this case, there's no question! I'm so happy for you and for Chance too. It's amazing that you get to live your dream - and with a baby, no less!

Hi Paint Girl,

Lucky you!

We weaned our foal last year in a totally new and different way. I got an old halter and put some small screws in the nose band pointing upwards. Every time baby tried to nurse she would poke mama. Mama's first instinct is to warn baby, thats what she did. She nipped her in the bum. After a week of this baby and mum were no longer nursing/allowing to nurse and there was none of that frantic screaming over the fence or pacing, getting upset, etc. All for about 5cents in screws.

I am a big believer that things always happen the way they were mneant to be. Great movies called "Sliding Doors" Basically says no maater what path you get there the ending is the same!
can't wait to hear all about her trip home!!!
is that why you've been doing all that work at the farm...getting her bedroom ready??? LOL

Aw! You're going to have a little filly!!! That is soooo cool! She is such a little sweetie! Did you know mustangs are related to barbs? There's a lot of barb influences in the Spanish horses, which were taken to America.

Can't wait til you get little Chance home!

I too believe in 'fate' and that signs (quite literally, in your case) are placed before you to make you think and be pushed into a specific direction or to confirm a decision you may even be on the fence about.

What an exciting journey you are about to begin with Chance. I'm grateful that you are sharing it with us. :)
