A Bunch Of Randon Things....

There hasn't been a whole lot going on around here, with the cold, wet weather we've been having, I haven't been able to do anything with the horses, or anything outside for that matter. So I have been getting some stuff done in the house. It was time to put the flannel sheets and down comforter on the bed again. The nights have been dropping into the 40's. That is cold for me. I don't have a lot of meat on my bones to keep me warm. I am always complaining that I am cold, while my OH is always complaining that he is hot.

After 2 days of torrential down pour of rain, the sun is shining right now. I hear it is supposed to get back up into the mid to upper 60's next week, with sun.
Yeah! Bring on the heat! I can get the lawn mowed, the horses worked, clean out the tack room of my horse trailer, and wash my car and truck.

The other day we went fishing. We decided that if we caught anything, we would release them back into the river. We have enough smoked salmon to last us for months. But if we caught a silver salmon (which is different then the pink salmon that we catch to smoke), than we would have a nice dinner. When we got to the river, it was packed with people. Soon a couple guys left and we got a good spot on the rocks. No one was catching anything, so we figured we wouldn't either. It wasn't long before my OH had a fish on. It seemed like every other cast, he caught a fish. I also started catching them. Before you know it, all the "guys" that were there fishing, came over to us to see what lure we were using. They even asked if they could buy some off of us. Sorry guys, we are down to our last 2 favorite lures!

My OH and I are very competitive when it comes to a lot of things, and fishing falls into that category. He knew how many fish we had caught previously and he desperately wanted to catch up, or pass my total. Before you know it, he had caught up to me. Darn! Then he passed my total. Yikes! But no worries, I started catching back up again. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to tie it back up.

I have been fishing since I was a little girl. I thought I knew how to properly pick up a live fish. So, after I get one of my fish to shore and in the net, I took the hook out of it's mouth. I stick my finger in it's mouth and through it's gill. Uh, WRONG! My fish closed it's mouth on my finger and bit me!!! Yes, I got bit by a salmon! Blood started pouring from my finger. I quickly pulled my finger from her mouth and released her back into the water (yes, this fish was a female). I go over to my bag, where I just so happen to keep toilet paper and band-aids. I dry my bleeding finger off, and put a band-aid on quickly. So here is the funny part. That night, I texted my sister to tell her I got bit by a salmon. I had told my OH that I knew exactly what her response would be, I just know her too well. She texted me back saying that she and her friend laughed so hard and "Do salmon have teeth?" My response "Yes! Salmon have teeth!" Sorry sis, I just had to share this, plus I needed to get back at ya for laughing at me! My OH did finally tell me the proper way to pick up a live fish after the incident. He says you don't put your fingers in their mouths to pick them up, you put your fingers through the gill! Oh! How come no one has ever told me this before?

Here is one of the fish that my OH caught. He caught 9 that night, I caught 4. But we had a lot more on and lost them right before we could get them in all the way, those ones don't count as a catch.

Bailey has been up to his old tricks again. Leave him unattended and he does this......

And this......

Oh no, it doesn't stop there, he also did this......

And this......

Would you like to explain yourself to me Mr. Deer Bone Dog? You look a little guilty!

A couple months ago, my OH saw Bailey playing with a stick, well he thought it was a stick. Upon closer inspection, he had a deer bone that he was playing with. Wonder where he got that? I am sure he was wandering throughout the neighborhood properties, and came across one and brought it home. Well, the other day he wouldn't come home when I called him. I had to leave. So I just left him outside. I trust leaving him outside when we aren't home, as long as it's not for too long. After we fed the horses last night, my OH comes into the house and says "Did you leave Bailey on his own today?" I say "I left him outside until about 2:00, why?" My OH says "I don't know how we didn't notice, but Bailey brought home 4 deer legs, that's the second time he has done that!" I say "4 deer legs?" Yep, Mr. Deer Bone Dog, took it upon himself to go out into the woods, find a dead deer and bring the bones home. He had them all displayed for us out by the horse pasture. Nice. So our question is, why are there so many dead deers? Are they dying from disease? Of old age? Is something getting them? And if something is getting them, what is? I can't picture a coyote getting a deer, or can they? We only have black bears, they typically just eat berries and fish. Is there a cougar running around now? I can see a cougar taking down a deer. Just gets the wheels turning in my head. There have been a lot more missing cats in our neighborhood than usual. Someone did witness a coyote picking up their Dachsund and carrying it away. They did get their dog back, with a lot of injuries.

Here is the squirrel that my dogs love to hate. The first thing they do when they come out of the garage is run to the dog kennel to "get the squirrel".

One big, happy family. If you look close enough, you will see all 4 goats in their shelter. Ever since we put in that addition and the goats have been in there, the horses all hang out way out back. It's like they need to be near "their" goats. I think it's so cute. Even my sister's boy hangs out with them now. I think he really likes them. Hey sis, want a goat?

The Painted Creek Lake is back. This is actually in the upper part of the pasture, you would think it would not be as muddy there, but there is no escaping the mud on this farm. Do you think Brandy could get any dirtier? That is going to be one tough clean up job!

We did get the kick boards up in the new barn, and the metal roofing is also complete. In a couple weeks, we will be bringing my new baby home. We will have to move the goats back with my other horses, until we can get another pasture put in. I think Chance will love her new home.

My princess has been so good. Ever since I haven't worked, she has really come around. I think it really helps that I am here, and can really work with her. She is attached to my hip, no matter what I do. That insecure thing. She has been way nicer to Bailey. Only a couple growls, and one small fight. I am very proud of her.

Do you think I can use the "Since I don't work, Sadie has really overcome some of her issues?" card, to just be a stay at home girlfriend forever? "But OH, she does so much better when I am home, if I go back to work, she might have a relapse!" I don't think it'll work, but a girl can dream, right?

seeing the mud, lake and dirty horses and its only Oct1 reminds me EXACTLY why we moved to the dry side......

I'll take cold and wind over the mud and the rain anytime..... I just cant handle the mud anymore, ever.

You have my sympathies.

The new shed looks good, and plenty cozy.

I can't wait to see your baby in the back pasture, either! :) I'm sorry your fish bite wounds started bleeding again tonight. That probably didn't look too good with the pizza sauce, LOL!

Chance will love the goats! My horses play with the sheep. The first mustang was just a yearling, and we put her in with the flock. The ewes got nervous and formed a line and walked carefully away from Quiet Storm. Quiet Storm, of course, figured they were her new herd and followed along behind. The ewe at the back of the line kept looking over her shoulder and walking a little faster, and a little faster, until she was trotting. And wouldn't you know, that mustang just kept coming after her! Next thing you know, she was in a full blown run trying to escape, but of course the horse's legs were longer... :)

I need to go fishing with you. I love salmon but we never go fishing.

oh ...we women can only wish for ongoing time at home...

Enjoy it while you can!

I understand.. this NW weather changes our fields instantly. First dry and dusty...then mud!

My poor girls are looking very confused!

It sounds like life on the farm is going well. We didn't get any major downpours here. I bet you are getting so anxious to bring your baby girl home too! Have a good weekend cuz!

I'll admit I was also thinking "salmon have teeth?" lol

Bailey's deer bones reminds me of the labs I used to dog-sit. I was throwing a tennis ball for them one night and after one throw I got a deer skull returned instead of the ball. :o

You need to go back to work to get some rest!
Glad to hear Sadie is doing better. I was worried about her. Looking foward to new posts about Chance. Miss you!

OUCH!! You better be more careful and no more bites from fish!!! You've been doing a million different things, I'm not sure how you've kept it all straight LOL!!

So when does Chance get to come home?!?! I forgot if you told us..

I see you lost the contest and got bitten. Fun, wasn't it?

Funny about the temperature thing...Dave and I have the same issue. That's part of the reason I always say I'll never leave Florida...we really only get 15 or so really cold days a year (although we have been toying with the idea of moving to Arizona)! By the way, I love your playlist.

Another great update... I can't believe you got bit by a salmon! That is kinda funny...

All of the strange animal bones are one thing I don't miss now that I live in the city. Growing up, I would trip over bones and skulls that my dogs had dragged home from somewhere... I kept one little skull (probably a raccoon) around because it grossed out my friends, but the rest I would collect and hide from the dogs.

I'm sure you can't wait to get Chance home!

It's been raining pretty steady for about 3 days here too. Unfortunately, I've been working so much I haven't been able to take advantage of the crummy weather and get some stuff done inside. I don't know when it's going to be dry enough to do some badly needed paddock cleanup. And my mud ponies! Yikes!

Now I understand the height of the "goat" shelter. It was for Chance all along! I thought it was a little big for your goats!

Sounds sort of like our place, I still have kick boards to place, the rain and much! Ugh!

Oh my gosh! So not funny, but I still giggled at the image of you with a fish hanging off your finger! Forgive me! ;)

I see what you mean about bad dogs! Lol, I'm not sure which is worse...trash or dead animals. Guess it depends on what's in the trash. Well, for what it's worth, both your pooches are extremely cute (and from what I'm told that gives them behavioral license to do what they will!)

Good luck with the stay at home GF thing - didn't work for me!

That had to have hurt!

I'll buy your "stay at home girlfriend" excuse. I think it's a great one. :)
