I Love My New Job!

I am really loving my new job, but I am so exhausted when I get home! It doesn't help that the last couple days I have had stuff going on after work. So I don't get to sit down and relax until around 8:00 p.m., which is hard for me considering I didn't work for 4 months! My body is going to need time to adjust to this level of work. It doesn't help that my OH has to work 12 hour days this week, and I have had to work late, so the poor Aussie's and horses are getting a much later dinner than usual. They will have to adjust to it, as well as I do. Hopefully next week my OH will be back on a normal schedule so we can get everyone back on a consistent feeding schedule.

I am starting to really get into the swing of things at work. The hardest part for me is remembering which horse goes to which name. I almost have all their stalls down now. But there are a few horses that I haven't touched yet, so until I actually get to handle them, then I can get the visual of the horse to stall thing down. It is hard to remember 50 horses names, which stall they belong to and what horse they actually are. Some look so much alike, that it will probably be awhile until I can just look at one and say who it is exactly. Then there are others, that you just know by looking at them, who they are. There are 50 horses in the main barn, but there are probably around 80-100+ horses at the facility.

Right now I am getting the horses ready for the trainers, grooming, turning horses out in paddocks, arena and on the hotwalker, longing, bathing, washing/braiding tails, feeding grain, and so much more. I am not riding yet, but hope I will be doing that someday soon. Gotta work my way up, ya know?

The trainers just left for the U.S. National Arabian Horse Show, so we had to finish getting the 12 horses that are going, ready for traveling, get them loaded into the trailers, and watch them head off. The barn was pretty quiet after they left. So we just groomed, longed and turned out as many as we could. Next on our list is weaning foals.

Most of the horses are so easy to work with. Only a few kick, one likes to nip, a couple are headcases and one is just a "special" case (she is so beautiful, but is a little crazy). So out of all those horses, and only a few have some issues. The stallions I am handling are very easy going, and I have already fallen in love with one. There is also a to die for halter filly that is drop dead gorgeous! I did find one in particular that is the sweetest horse, and is an awesome western pleasure horse. I can dream, right?

Until things are settled around here with my new job and my new baby, I might not be able to make as many visits to your blogs, but I will try my hardest to come over and say hi. But I am finding that I don't have much time right now, and since I am still sick, I am trying to get to bed as early as possible. My house is a pigsty, I am hoping to catch up on that next week. The rest of my week and weekend is really full. I am still volunteering on one of my days off, so I really will only have one day off a week. I also might not be able to post as often as I would like too. I think once I get used to having a job again, and new baby, it will calm down a little for me. Who would have thought that I would ever be too busy or too tired, to read? Not me! But it isn't just my body that is tired, my eyes are so heavy that I could fall asleep right now!

Did I say I LOVE my new job?

Adjusting to a new schedule, especially a fairly demanding one, is a challenge!
We had to shuffle things around at work a bit when my sis-in-law went on mat leave. I had to give up a day off and now it is my most jam-packed day. I have one day that is a 'free day' and its pretty busy too.

btw I took a look at your play list and you & I could definately hang girl!! lmao when I saw Stompin Tom's Hockey Song :)

What a busy girl you are! I know how you feel. It is hard to juggle at times. I have been at my job almost a year, and just can't get a schedule that works right. Always being a morning person just does not fit in anymore. I just can't let it go. I miss my early morning work outs. I will have to work on it! HUGS!

It sounds like you are having a marvelous time, regardless of the hard work. It sounds very neat! Make sure you read my post tomorrow night or Friday, it's a real time turner-Christmastime at Nana's when we were little!

Such an exciting time, Paint Girl! I am so happy that you got this job that you are loving so much. I can think of very little better than hanging with horses all day, and GETTING PAID FOR IT!!! I know I'll miss your sunny presence when you're not around, but it'll just make your visits all the more special when they happen! =) Enjoy...

Oh, that's such hard work. My friend had the same job as you at an Arabian horse training facility. She's in her 70's and the head trainer told me that my friend had more energy and got more work done than anyone else around the facility. She did finally poop out and trade the job in for something where she wouldn't have to be on her feet as much. I just remember what a perfectionist the trainer was and thinking, "I'm glad I don't have to groom these horses before a show. I'd seriously botch that up."

Good luck with the Arabs. I used to work (and live!) in an Arab barn (it was a dark time for me) and they drove me crazy! Most of them have so many quirks! I'm glad you found a job you love. Getting paid to work with horses would be a dream for me too!

Wow, it sounds like your new job is really physical! Think of all the muscles you will be building up! Your job is your gym! It must be awesome to be around beautiful horses all day. As knowledgeable as you already are, I'll bet you'll learn a ton too. There is something very rewarding about a job that really teaches. Congrats, Paint Girl, your bloom continues!

Congrats girl on the new job!! And a job you LOVE to boot! I worked for an Arab farm too many moons ago to count...it was interesting to say the least. Sounds like it's working great for you!

I know what you mean about getting 'round to everyone's blogs...I haven't been here for at least 2 weeks...probably more! So, we're all in the same boat...too many good blogs to read and not enough time!!

So, I'll read, but many times not have time to comment. Just take care of yourself and do what ya can!

Wow--what a barn! They've got a lot going on there. And those Arabs bring in the $$$--even during the recession! Someone has a lot of time and money. You're going to learn so much with a job like that!!

A new baby and a job you love! What more could you ask for? Maybe you can work for that filly you have fallen in love with.

Congratulations Paint Girl!!!! You were worried earlier about your future and it all worked out!!! Well done!!! Enjoy!

You've got a lot going on all at once. Seems like that happens. You think, I'll just volunteer as long as I'm not working. And that's not so bad so you take on this new little baby Mustang. And then out of the blue comes this great job opportunity. And ya know, Christmas is just around the corner... Just kidding. It sounds like you are taking it in stride. Cut out of your schedule what you can (housecleaning is a good place to start).

Wow! I love your job! To say I am a wee bit jealous would be an understatement! Congrats!

This job is the reason you were unemployed for 4 months -- you were meant to have this job, so you had to lose the other and be unemployed in order to get rested up for it!! Sounds wonderful...50 horses!!!

I can so relate, I'm working full time again after years of working and being at home. You would never guess what I'm doing now. A BIG adjustment!
I used to work at a dressage farm, a great job, fell in love with a couple of the horses and I learned a lot too! So enjoy it, but make sure you get your sleep !

That is so awesome, congrats on your job!! :)

But I totally relate to the full plate... I start another temp assignment at the hospital on Tuesday (for 10 wks), and hubby is in WA state til the end of the month, which means starting on Tues the horses and dogs will have their breezy, easy schedules disrupted! I have to be at work at 7 a.m., town is almost 40 mins away, so that means I have to get up at 5:00. Whew, I'm going to be tired again, and have less time in my days for blogging!

Take care, get your rest girl! :)
