Can You Help Liberty?

Tracey, from Mustang Diaries and Mustang U are working on raising funds to bring in this Sale Authority grulla mare Liberty, and her filly. This is Liberty.

Here is some information on what Sale Authority is:

  • In the 2005 Federal Omnibus Appropriation Bill, Senator Conrad Burns (R-MT) attached a rider that gave BLM authority to sell- without limitation (slaughter)- wild horses over the age of ten. 8,300 wild horses fit this criterion. The rider also specified that any animal not adopted in three adoption attempts, would also be sold without limitations- 100 animals fit this criterion.
  • The 8,300 wild horses now earmarked under the Burn's rider for slaughter were never given an opportunity to be adopted, but were sent immediately to long-term holding pasture sanctuaries, not holding corrals.

Tracey and Mustang U are hoping to get enough funds together to make the trip down to Burns and pick up the grulla mare, Liberty, and her filly. Plus they will need to adopt the filly for another $125.00.

This is Liberty's filly. Isn't she the cutest thing you have ever seen? I so want her! (But I can't have her!)

There is also a "Name The Filly" contest going on. For more details, please go to Mustang U.

Tracey does amazing work with Mustangs. I have seen proof of this, with her 2 Mustangs, Steve Holt! and Sandy. I believe that if she can get Liberty home, that Liberty will be gentled and possibly even rideable. Don't you think Liberty deserves a chance at a better life?

Yes, I do. But, my question is, Out of all the horses in this predicament, why these? What made her pick these particular horses as ones to rescue? I know they all deserve "the chance" but, what criteria goes into picking? Health? Breed? Or does she know something about this pair?

I went to her site and read the whole story. I hope they meet their goal. I'll have to think of a name too. It's so funny, I came up with Liberty's Belle in my head before I read the other comments. I guess we all have great minds that think alike!

This is so funny, I went to do the word verification and it came up teras, very cool!!!

Now I need to head over to Tracey's blog and see what's going on...We have been gone camping, and I feel like so much has happened in blogland while I was gone.

Glad to see that you and your sis had a great 4th, and the pics from your trail ride are great. :)

Oh they are both beautiful, and have so much potential. I have always been partial to duns, buckskins and grulla's.
