We get to the trail head at 11:00 a.m. We knew the temps were going to reach the low to mid 80's, so we thought we'd ride for a couple hours. Here is C, on Fritzy, before we headed out on the trails.

I was laughing at my sister, because she was tying a sweatshirt onto her saddle. I asked her what she was doing "Why do you need a sweatshirt?" Her response "Well, if we get lost, I won't freeze at night, like you will!" You are so funny Pony Girl! You think I will get lost out here? Remember, I am the one who knows the way around! But I do know you should always be prepared for any situation while out on the trail.

We in a very serious dry spell right now. It was so dusty on some of the trails. It was making our throats scratchy, the horses were coughing. Yuck! I think we probably ended up with a couple of inches of sand on us by the end of our ride!

We somehow decided to try to find a local lake that you are supposed to be able to ride too. C used to ride these trails all the time. But it's been awhile. She thought she could get us there. We ended up on a paved road, that sort of looked like it was the road to the lake. But the farther we rode up the paved road, C said she thought she knew where it was going to take us, but it wouldn't be the lake. She was right. No lake. But the road did take us very close to the bathrooms!

As we were riding along the road, I couldn't resist taking a picture of the mountain in the distance. Isn't it beautiful?

Finally! We make it back to familiar territory! Now we know we aren't lost, and sis, you won't be needing that sweatshirt anytime soon!

As we were riding along, I couldn't resist taking pictures, even if the power lines are there. They are attractive in their own way, I suppose.

Hey look! I'm finally in a picture! Thanks sis! Now everyone knows I really do ride my horse out on the trails!

It was really getting hot at this point. We couldn't wait to get to the bathrooms, to eat, stretch our legs, than get back out on the trail.

We ride by this "shack" all the time. I think my sis found a place to stay if she should get lost, at least she will stay warm, with that sweatshirt and wood stove!

We decided to save the stream for last. It was almost the hottest part of the day. We ended up riding longer than we thought. I am sure the horses enjoyed cooling off their hooves!

Brandy really wasn't sure what to think of it. She goes through this stream all the time, but she really didn't want any of it today.

I almost jumped off Brandy and took a swim, ok, it isn't deep enough to swim, but I still could have gotten wet! Oh, and even if it was deep enough, I would never swim in it. I am scared of water!

Brandy is looking for a way out.

My sis's boy just had to check it out. Although, I think Fritzy was the only horse that drank out of the stream. She was lovin' it!

Brandy just wants to get the heck out of there! She's looking up the hill, and knows that is the trail that will take her back to safety!

Brandy always thinks she is going to be left behind. We ended up riding for 3 1/2 hours. We are moving on up! Before you know it, we will be packing a lunch and hitting the trails all day! I am really glad C could come up to ride. She rarely gets to ride anymore, and I know the stress of not having a job, and looking for a job can do for someone. She emailed me later to thank me for letting her go riding. She said that this was the first day she has taken for herself, since we have been unemployed. It was a good break that she really needed. She has been really looking for a job and applying everywhere. She hasn't had any luck. I kind of feel selfish, because I have been doing more playing than looking for a job, when there are others that have been hunting faithfully everyday, just hoping something will come of it. But I can't let it get me down. I sometimes feel like I deserve this break, but than again I think I should be out there like others and seriously looking.
I told C that I would take her riding anytime. She really liked riding Fritzy and she felt really comfortable on her. I think seeing all these other people ride Fritzy, is going to help my confidence with her. I was actually supposed to ride her that day, but than C was able to go on a ride. So hopefully in the next couple weeks, I will get to take her out.

You've probably mentioned before why Fritzy makes you nervous but I can't remember why! Seems like she's the one that you turn to for others to ride, so she seems safe and trustworthy.
Glad to see the picture taking bug has bit you too! I love the pics on your blog.
What a nicwe day, So glad you were able to take your friend as well.
cdncowgirl~ I lost my confidence riding Fritzy almost 3 yrs ago when she dumped me. It was an accident, but one where I was seriously injured, and I can't seem to get over my fear of riding her. I have gotten better. I do trust her, otherwise I wouldn't put all these people on her! It is just my fear that I am trying to deal with. I did a post on it, I think back in April.
I have taken probably over 200 pictures in the last few days! I am lovin' it!
Glad you and pony girl got to go on a good ride! I'm glad that your friend enjoyed the day!
Hope you chickies were wearing your sunscreen! It's been so nice here lately! Looks like you guys had a great ride, as always! Great that your friend could come with you and get her mind off the hard times for a little bit. Don't feel guilty...I think you've earned this time for yourself. When the time's right, something will come along for you. In the meantime, you will always be able to look back on your "summer vacation" and the memories made. When you do start something up again, you will be recharged and ready to rock! :)
You wait sis....someday you might be begging me for a bite of my granola bar and to borrow that sweatshirt, LOL!
I think it is time you ride Fritzy out on the trail. Maybe this week?!
Just a question ....what do yoy have strapped to the back of your saddle???
Hi! Loved your little picture commentry of your trail ride. I love horses but haven't ridden for years and I felt I was there enjoying the trip too. Thanks.
Great ride!!! Love your sis and her sweatshirt LOL!! Too funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't worry about the job. You are doing the right thing and enjoying yourself. The job will come! What fun you and your horses had. I can't get over the dust in that one picture. That really looks like our NORMAL summer! You crack me up about not liking water! No swimming?! And Pony Girl and her sweatshirt! So funny! Great post with great pictures! Thanks for sharing!
Any time in the saddle and any views from the saddle are worth the heat and dust. (except maybe a view from the ground looking up) :-)
Looks like a GREAT ride! Wonder why Brandy wasn't into the water that day? Glad you were able to get your friend out for a day. Job hunting can be more exhausting than most people realize. The pressure is enormous. Take your time if you can and enjoy the great life you have!
Job hunting is frustrating, exhausting, and demoralizing. Mr. Fry has been horribly underemployed for over a year, but we remain hopeful.
I think it's great that you are able to take some time for yourself.
What fun! BTW I LOVE your jazzy headstall it is way bling bling!!
Paint Girl this was an awesome tyrail ride. That mountain in your neighborhood makes me swoon. That must be a tremendous feeling to see that with your own eyes as you are trekking along on a horse. Speaking of horses, they looked beautiful. I love Brandy's headstall. I'm right there with pony Girl--I like to be prepared with warm clothing. yet another thing I'd love to be able to pack with me on every ride.
Sorry about your dusty dry spell!
I love that very top picture of Fritzy...it shows how much body she has! Jeeze your horses are starving *insert sarcasm* and they're coats are so dull!! I think you need to feed them up a little :) Happy trails!!
Amanda~ Strapped to the back of my saddle is a small cantle bag. I keep a hoofpick, screwdriver, vetwrap, extra water etc. in it. My horn bag has water, kleenex, Purell, travel size pack of toilet paper etc in it and I always keep my cellphone, camera, chapstick on my person. I have bigger saddle bags but I need to get holes put in by a leather person so I can strap it on my saddle.
PG getting lost!! LOL!! That is too funny!! I am glad she found a shack with a wood stove just in case!! LOL!! Looks like it was a wonderful ride. And the scenery was beautiful!! Great pictures!!!
It looks like you had a great time. The weather was beautiful this weekend wasn't it. Hopefully the rain we're supposed to get won't last too long and we can return to blue skies!
I love how you bring your camera with you! Now I feel like I've been on a trail ride today:)
Hey there! I stumbled upon your blog somehow, I think because I felt the title meant horses. Big stretch, I know. : )
This looks like so much fun, it's something I don't do anymore and should.
I'm pretty sure that there isn't a problem in the world that can't be solved by a nice, long ride. :)
Oh what a treat, I am happy that you had a great ride. Pretty soon I'll see you riding the Grand Canyon:).
Thanks for visiting. My daughter's dog Blue does get a "haircut" she lives in Orlando and the heat is too much with all that hair. Blue has been getting haircuts for most of his life, we have an older Aussie and I think if we cut her hair now she would be embarrased.
Have a great week.
I wish I had time to do all that trail riding!
wow awesome trail blazin' .. looks similar to one of my fav trails here... almost felt like "being there"...
happy trails
What an awesome day! How fun. :) 80s is nice compared to our usual 100s this time of year... and we've been blessed to have TWO 80 degree days in a row now. It all changes tomorrow though. Darn. >:-\
I know what you mean about the unemployed thing -- it's hard sometimes to enjoy the time off. I start a temporary (8 wk) job on Weds. Glad for the $$, and I'm hoping it can turn into something permanent!!
I've worked my way up to a 2 hour ride. Seems like I never can take more time than that. It'd be great to go out as a group and ride for a couple hours, take a lunch break, then ride a couple more hours. Looks like you guys had fun despite the heat.
Tell pony girl that she is right...you never know when you may be out there for the night!!! I ALMOST WAS!!! And...I will ride Fritzy and you can ride Little Lady at the Pony Cousin Stampede!!!
We know all about dusty, dry conditions. To me, your conditions look lush! We don't have a lick of green anywhere.
Did Brandy seem to remember C at all?
Pony Girl, I don't blame you in the slightest. I always have a sweatshirt with me.
WTH? I thought I left a comment here. Musta been that I read your post and thought I'd come back to leave a comment when I got back from our trip. Oh well! Sorry about that. :)
Looks like you all had a great time, though. It does look hot, but the horses all look beautiful and you all look happy.
Thanks for sharing the photos from your ride. They turned out beautifully!
