We used to go camping for the 4th of July weekend. Than we would have parties at our house, with a lot of good friends and family, and a good BBQ. Now that we have horses, we stay home to keep an eye on them. The last couple years we went to our neighbors house, for good food, fireworks and a bonfire. That way we are still close to home, and we can go check on our horses every now and then. Our horses handle the far away fireworks fine, but the close up ones, they don't like too much. It's hard, because everyone in the neighborhood sets them off. I like to watch them and we use to be able to participate, but I can't risk one of our horses getting hurt, just for our enjoyment.
All the cats get locked up in our bedroom, with plenty of food and water, oh and a litter box. They aren't happy about it, but it's only one day a year. The dogs get locked up in the garage, with the stereo on high, hopefully to drown out all the booms and bangs. I have never lost a cat or dog to the 4th of July. I know a lot of people have lost pets. But I don't think everyone locks them up safely. I would never let my cats and dogs run free during the fireworks, they actually don't get to go back outside until the next day.
Last year we went to our neighbors, we had friends and family there too. We enjoyed great food, an excellent firework show and a lovely bonfire. I will share some pictures I took. I never realized how difficult it would be to take pictures of fireworks. I think I tried every setting on my camera. I hope my sis brings her Nikon this year. I think she can get some pretty amazing pictures!

We start the night, and end the night with a wonderful fire!

I hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July!

Happy Fourth of July to you!!!
I think those pics from last year turned out good! I'm feeling the pressure with the Nikon. There is supposed to be a certain setting you are to use. Not sure I'll get it figured out before the big night, LOL!
Maybe we should get earplugs for the horses? ;) Or stuff cotton in their ears! I knew a school horse for kids that they did that too, just to help elminate any scary sounds so that he didn't spook.
See you tomorrow!
Have lots of fun! It's going to be pretty boring around here. i think I may even be Cub-less. He's supposed to go see his Daddy. Our dogs could care less about the fireworks, especially Foo. I think if Jax were outside he might freak a bit though. Love Ya Cuz!
My dogs are fine with the fireworks and my horses don't seem to mind. I have been very lucky that we lived near a major hwy and the horses were desensitized to many loud noises. They don't mind guns, rifles, semi-trailors or motorcycles...just don't let a flock of turkeys come out of the woods too close to the pasture! ;)
That looks like the perfect way to celebrate our nation's birthday. I agree with the fireworks and the animals. Annie is scared to death of loud noises. Our neighbors set fireworks off but it doesn't seem to bother the horses. I guess they are far enough away to not effect them.
I think those fireworks pics you got were great! Happy Fourth to you...have fun! :)
Nice photos. I love that 4th one. I also like this blog background. Happy holiday to you.
Those photos turned out pretty well! Have a happy safe holiday
Happy 4th of July. Cheers.
happy weekend.
Happy 4th of July
We always stay home on any holiday involving fireworks. In my neck of the woods, it sometimes gets paired with yayhoos shooting off guns.
I love your pics from last year -- they look way cool! :) I agree with you on the animals. It's much safer to take the extra precautions. I've heard of too many dogs running away, totally spooked, never to return. I would never have my dogs outside, loose, during fireworks!
Have a wonderful 4th, all of you!! :)
Our Family party is on a "yacht" this year. And since I can't do boats...I have the Rosa Jewel and her Cowpuppy ( who has been drugged) for the evening! Have a great 4th!
The firework photos turned out great! I just put my horses in the barn. It's beautiful out so I hate to do that but I've had them run to the point of being lathered up a couple years ago and about got killed trying to catch them so they'll just have to tough it out in a stall.
Happy 4th, hope it is a safe and happy one!

I think the pictures turned out great!!! Happy 4th!!!
Those are some great shots! Thanks for sharing!
My first visit, beautiful photos and beautiful horses.
I love fireworks! Thanks for putting pictures on your blog! That must have been fun to watch them. I know animals do not like fireworks as much as the human animal! They must feel like the world is crashing to an end. That cannot be a good feeling.
Those are great pics, sounds like you had a wonderful time! I am glad you are such a responsible pet owner, even though they don't like being locked up, they would thank you if they knew why! =)
I hope you guys had a great 4th!! i think the pictures you have from last year's fireworks are great!! I too tried some firework shots this year, some were OK but you know my camera needs fixed LOL, I'm sending it tomorrow then you won't have to listen to me complain anymore LOL!!
Oh our horses are funny every 4th, I know exactly what they will do. During the day they will run and buck while the gang is shooting loud poppers then at night with the big ones they run laps around the pasture, it's really cool to listen to actually! You hear their hooves beating the ground! Even our horses in the back pasture run!
