I had big plans for my 3 days off. My first day off turned out different than I thought it would be. I did not get to do any ground work with Fritzy. I hurt my elbow at work on Sunday, and I didn't realize the extent of the pain I would be in, until I woke up at 6:30 in the morning the next day. So I put Fritzy's training on hold until next week, when I have full use of my left arm. I will need that arm!
I only have 3 more days of work left. Than I will be unemployed. It is almost surreal, after 18 years at the same company, I will no longer have a job. It still doesn't seem seem like this is happening, I feel like I will still get up and go to the same job I have gone too, for so long. Starting on Sunday, that will not happen. Saturday is going to be so hard. I will have to say goodbye to so many people that I have worked with for a very long time, and have become good friends with. It will be a very emotional day. I am not looking forward to it.
Instead of training Fritzy, I cleaned out my horse trailer. I am so anal about cleaning the poop out every time a horse is in there. But after last weeks fiasco, I let it sit for a week. I just had to scoop the poop out. Pain and all, it was going to come out! I keep a muck bucket in my trailer, my OH bought me a muck bucket cart so I can just put my muck bucket in it, fill it up and wheel it off to my poop dumping site. I now see that Bailey was supervising the process. See his head down on the right?

Once I was done, I headed out to the pasture to check on the fly situation. No flies. I decided while I was out there, I would pick rocks. Looks like the Painted Creek Rock Breeding Program is still a success! Thanks to my sis for bringing this breeding program up to speed!
I figured I could still bring Brandy out and ride her. Since I had minimal use of my left arm, I had my OH, who had the day off, saddle her for me. Plus, my sis was coming up and we had plans to ride through the neighborhood. So I had to ride. I figured I could get through the pain and it would be well worth it. It was such a beautiful day out and I wasn't going to miss good weather for a painful elbow.
This poor little guy didn't survive the Painted Creek Killer. I am so sorry Gold Finch!
I did alot of loping on Brandy today. She started out so good, no crowhopping, until she slipped, once she slips she gets mad and crowhops. But I got her under control and she was really good after that!

We had planned to ride through the neighborhood. I think Brandy already knows this is what we are going to do. She's looking out at the road very intently.

My sis's boy was being goofy, he'd grab a big piece of grass and I am not kidding when I say big, this picture does not do it justice! It was like 2 feet long, he'd swing it around, I just couldn't get a good picture! During our ride, we decided to take another road that takes us to some other trails that we can ride on. The horses were not too happy to go down the road, Brandy acted just like she did when we encountered that tarp on our trail ride last weekend. We worked out the issues and went to the trail entrance. We turned around and continued on. We saw someone was working in their yard, right next to the road, with a huge track-ho. You know the thing with the huge claw that you can pick up huge logs and boulders etc? Yeah, one of those. So we decided to try to ride by it. We thought we might have some resistance from the horses, the equipment was really loud. They walked right on by, with no spooking. Brandy did tense up a little right when we got past it, but she did just fine. Maybe all that bulldozer work at my house and the excavator work at the training barn I had her at, desensitized her to heavy equipment! It still is so funny to me that they won't go down a road but they will walk right by a piece of heavy equipment, that is running and moving. Silly!

This is my neighbors horse. Magic is a 3/4 Percheron. I am not sure what else she has in her. She is so big. Her neck and mane are gorgeous!

We decided to head down to see the only cow that lives around here. This guy buys a new cow every spring, fattens him up, than butchers it. Our horses have always been scared of the cow. So we thought a little training session in cows would be good. The cow was hiding. So no cow today. There's always next time!

I just had to put this picture in here. It is one of those "what not to do" when taking pictures! Apparently I haven't figured that out yet. We had just gotten back from our ride. My OH, Bailey and Sadie were waiting at the end of the driveway for us to return. We dismounted and I took a picture. Don't kill me Pony Girl, but notice how your butt ended up in the picture? And look at your boy, mouth wide open. I guess I need to learn a little something about backgrounds when taking pictures!

Here is my sis, multi-tasking, yep, she is holding onto her boy, and helping the Aussie's round up the goats. She did a great job, considering she had her hands full already! Look at that smile on her face, I think she is ready to be a goat farmer!

She even gave Walter a hind leg shake! What the heck?

Not too sure what Rowdy was doing here! He was laying down, got up, than went halfway down, and was rubbing his head in the dirt. Now that does not look like a comfortable way to rub your face!

Look, still no flies! Yeah!! I haven't had to put my horses fly masks or fly sheets on my horses yet. Unbelievable!

Even though I will not have a job, I am looking forward to summer. I want to get caught up on so many things. I want to ride as much as I can, I want to get caught up on yard work, I want to re-do my office, I want to spring clean my house, I could go on and on but will leave it at that. I will look for work, but I won't just get a job doing anything. I have to keep my spirits up about the job situation. The one thing that is keeping my spirits up, are my animals. They make me smile everyday and I am so excited to be able to spend the summer with them!

Sounds like you have a plan for the summer! Maybe your mom, Desert Rose and I could meet you guys someplace for a fantastic trail ride!It would be nice if we could do that at least a couple of times! We would just have to plan ahead so we could ask for the time off if we needed to.
Paint Girl! Keep your spirits up! You are not working, but you will have a glorious summer with your animals! Your post is bittersweet, but hopeful too. Look at your photos of that ride in your neighborhood. It is really pretty. Not a bad place to be during a "break" from employment. Enjoy!
Just came across your blog. Love your horse stories..and you have a fabulous place to go ride. It's so green. We have wide open farmland..I can't complain but have to be ready for pesky varmits to come jumpin' out at me. Sorry to hear about your job. I'll have to read back on your older posts.
My heart goes out to you for losing your job after all these years. I cannot imagine being let go after 18 years!!! But sometimes when things like this happen it forces us to do something that we needed to do all along -- I think you had mentioned that you haven't been real happy with your job for a long time. So this is your opportunity to find something that suits you better.
I am curious to see how the fly predators work for you. We give our horses the feed thru fly control, and it seems to work great. We never seem to have a lot of flies. When we were in Italy we did some riding, and the flies at that barn were just horrible -- that was the first time I realized how bad a fly problem could be....
Your ride sounded good, even though there were some challenges for the horses...
It's a bummer when you've got grand plans to work with your horse and then you get some annoying injury. Don't worry about getting Pony Girl's butt in the background. She has a butt that most of us middle-aged women wish we could return to having again someday, and her Boy has nice teeth. Your future begins now.
Something always comes up when I want to go out to ride. But it's nice to finally get that ride in. I love Pony Girl as the Goat Farmer!! She does look like she likes it!! LOL!!
What kind of bit is that? It looks like some kind of loose ring snaffle? And I love your headstall, very nice!! And girl, my backgrounds are always funky, I have found the wonders of photoshopping things out of them. Like poles, horse poop, and other random things!! Hee hee!!
Keep your chin up, Paint Girl! Things have a way of working themselves out, so do your best to enjoy the ride! I am thankful that I am employed, but at the same time, I must admit I'm a bit envious that you've got the entire summer to spend with your animals.
Oh, and I have to agree with Andrea, I really like your headstall as well!
Andrea~ yes, my bit is a loose ring, slow twist snaffle. My trainer loves these bits, the only place I can find them is in the Schneiders catalog. I use this bit on both Fritzy and Brandy.
Somehow, the topic of my butt has ended up twice in your blog, hee hee! :) I am a good goat wrangler, too funny, I am posting a goat story tonight.
I forgot to tell you when I drove out of the neighborhood an hour or so later, that cow was out there grazing right where we rode by! Stinker!
I feel bad hoping you don't get a job this summer, so that when I am out of school, we can hang out in our free time together! :) But I do hope you find a job so that you won't worry about finances. That is always stressful!! xo
Paint Girl, I cannot wait to hear what God has in store for you. I know it will be something great. I'm sorry you're going through a hard time right now.
I miss reading your blog. I've been so crazy lately, I haven't had time to read. I'm excited to read back episodes.
If you girls need a place to be around cows, trailer your horses down to NM to our family cattle ranch. You can play with quite a lot there. Big branding is in July. :)
Looks like you had a great ride! too bad you hurt your elbow , take it easy and don't make it worse.Best of luck with the job search ,18 years in one place proves you are obviously a great worker!
Sounds like you had a great day! If you are like me you won't get anything done. Then you will be mad at yourseld. I know the right job is there waiting for you. Enjoy the next few months off, and spend some time with your babies. xoxo
The weekend was beautiful wasn't it. I hope your elbow is on the mend. You and Pappy could have hung out. He sprained his wrist, badly, and has been on the couch for a few days. He's got a few years on you though, so I'm sure you'll bounce back faster. I hope you have enough time this summer to come up at least once, other than the campout, to come and hang out with us, before you find the job of your DREAMS!
You know I believe that when one door closes, another opens.. we will see what job may be coming your way, when the time is right.
That is funny that Jesse mentioned your headstall, I noticed it as well.. nice!
Jan
Hope that elbow's feelin' better! Doesn't it just figure that when you have big plans, something always has to happen to throw them off track! I only got about a quarter of the things done this weekend that I wanted to accomplish! Darn it!
Poor little Gold Finch! I have plenty of sightings like that...critters that do not escape the clutches of the "Dappled Acres Killer". ;) One in particular yesterday that I will be blogging about once I get my big camera back (left it at the in-laws yesterday).
Glad to see you guys got to enjoy a stoll around the neighborhood, injury and all! I think I've probably said it before, but how totally cool that you guys have eachother as a built in riding friend! ;)
I'm with Pony Girl...kinda hoping that you girls just get to enjoy a summer with your furry friends and eachother! You definitely deserve it...especially after 18 years! But no matter what, I know that everything will work out exactly as it's supposed to! :)
Aww man, why can't Bandit have mane like that? You have such beautiful green places to ride, too! :)
i agree with jan, when one door closes, another one opens...get excited about that because i know with all of us thinking about you, something wonderful will come your way. stay in the moment...don't fret about the future and don't remiss about the past. enjoy the days that you have been given to relax and be with your furry babies. you will find peace and happiness. hope the elbow heals soon.
The silver lining is that you now have some time to do stuff. Hope you are able to find another job quickly.
looks like you had a great ride!
I hope your ride cheered you up soon. I lost a job I had for a while and it was hard too. But the new job was way better so be patient, enjoy your summer and the right one will come along.
Your elbow injury actually sounds serious if it means you cannot ride. Hope it does not last long! I bet you will quickly learn to like not having a job. Fritzy and Brandy can be your job! They will be very good co-workers!!
Don't worry, I always get pictures of my sisters hiney too, but she swears that she will never speak to me again if they get posted...lol!!! Sorry to hear about your elbow, and I am sorry that the next few days will be so hard.
Always enjoy reading your posts. Lovely photos:)
Hi
Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery.
Loved all the wonderful photos.
I so enjoy visiting your blog.
Thank you with all my heart for letting me
enjoy your wonderful Horse adventures well all your great animal adventures.
Have a great week.
Terrific post, PG!
Rocks you say? If I went up there and picked rocks out of Babyu Doll's paddock, I'd have no ground left for her to walk on. We live in the mountains where it's hilly and covered in rocks and boulders. The ground IS rock. lol!
I'm glad you two got to go out on a ride together and work with your ponies, too. Sounds like you had a great time.
Brandy's looking so pretty.
lol! On that photo of Pony Girl, too. The goats look bigger than she is. What a tough little Goat Girl she is. lol!
I'm so sorry about the job changes that are going to be taking place. I hope it goes well for you. ((HUGS))
My neighbor, Val lost her job last year and took it as a sign to get some things accomplished, like going back to school and spending more time with her horses. Sounds like you've got that mind set, too. Just focus on enjoying this time off from work and things will happen for you as they are supposed to.
When one door closes, another opens, right?
((HUGS))

Oh, sorry to hear about your job situation, and the poor bird. I have a neighbor that does that same thing with a cow every so often, so I try not to look at them.
Thanks for checking out my cowgirl blog re-do, I don't know of anywhere to get a horsey background, I made mine. You can get instructions to do that at "Cutest Blog on the Block."
Best of luck with your job search!
OH I tried to post to this earlier and my computer fluked!! I hope your elbow is feeling better!! Sounds like you and your sis had a great day!!! What fun!!
You know with your job situation, I think what you are doing is great!!! Take some much deserved time for yourself while you look for "the" job!! The one you want to do!!
