To go to the river, it is a very short drive through my neighborhood, we unlock the gate and drive down a long, steep hill and just like that, we are at the river! A few minutes max! It is the perfect place to walk the dogs, go fishing, ride the horses, hang out on a hot, sunny day with friends, go river rafting, jump into the water when the temps hit 90, BBQ'ing and drinking a cold beer.
When we had our other dogs, Tyson and Keysha, we would always take them down to the river to swim on really hot days. Keysha was addicted to tennis balls and we could spend hours throwing the ball into the river, she would go on forever, if we let her. Unfortunately a year and a half ago, we had to euthanize both Tyson and Keysha, due to age and injuries.

Bailey doesn't look too happy after his first swim!

The first time Sadie met the river was during flood stage. She was very leary, I think she thought it might swallow her up. Hard to believe that Sadie is a water dog!
We have excellant walking trails down by the river. It is great to go down there on a hot day, it is really shady, we get a breeze off the river and the dogs just love it! See my long legs in those short, shorts?
My cousin and her husband try to come visit us every year. Here we are heading up to the best fishing spot in the world! My OH and I love to go fishing. Nothing like fishing from your backyard!

I am heading onto this huge, rock formation. On the other side is our fishing hole.

My cousin and her husband arrive at the fishing hole!

Here it is! This is the best spot for fishing! We fish for humpies (pink salmon), steelhead and silvers here. This exact rock that we are standing on, I can't even tell you how many fish we have caught here! Or should I say that I've caught here!

Here is Pony Girl, myself and Bailey. We are standing on an empty lot, on the bluff, in my neighborhood. Right behind us is a huge cliff, a drop off straight down to the river below. You can see the river off to the left. I am so terrified of heights, I had a hard time standing here for this picture!

This was last summer, when the river was at its lowest. Sadie really enjoyed it!

Hey mom, look what I got!

We are very lucky to have this wonderful bit of nature right here in our backyard. The amazing thing is, hardly anyone from our neighborhood uses it! We are usually down there by ourselves, until fishing season, this is when it fills up!
I would like to give credit to Pony Girl, for taking most of these picutures. I only wish she had her new camera at the time!

WOW! What an absoutely beautiful place to hang out. Ya know, as I'm sitting here felling envious, I'm realizing that I also am up on a bluff with a river below me. Hmmm...
I've often thought that it would be fun to ride Caspian along the trail that follows it. Okay, that's a goal for me. Head down & see what's what with the river down there. I bet if Kuntry Boy was around in the summer more we'd have staked it out by now. From what I can tell, though, I don't think it's quite as conducive to fishing, etc. as your place is.
Looks like you have a fun summer ahead of you hangin' at the river with friends! :)
Bailey was (and still is!!!) just so darn cute! I think I would steer clear of a rip-roarin river too! Your dogs are sure beautiful. I can't wait to get an aussie someday soon. I have never met one I didn't like and I would love to have a trail dog again!
Awesome! The river we can ride down to is usually dried up before spring is over.
I can't really swim either! :)
That river is fun! You know, the few pictures I took, were taken on my old, NON-DIGITAL Yashica! With real film that you had to take in to get developed, LOL! ;)
Something about the pic of you 3 walking up the river bank makes me think of a rock video. You just need the guitars slung over your backs! :)
What pretty pictures of YOUR river! Nothing better than hearing the water rushing by!
Wonderful place! Does Bailey enjoy water these days? Sheba plunged into any water-filled container from the very beginning, but it was always on her own accord! Still is! :-)
That is the greatest!!! And right in your back yard so to speak! When it's 100+ here this summer I'll be thinking of your river!
aaaghhh blogger ate my comment!
I have to ride 45 minutes at a walk (though we usually gallop a little so less time) to get to the lake here.
My uncle lives practically right on the rifle river and several small lakes so it's awesome to go to his place and go fishing and kayaking.
Gorgeous pictures! I love playing in a river or stream on a hot day, the water is always cold and refreshing:)
It looks beautiful there, I may just have to come some time with the Sister and BIL. If I can match up my schedule with the cub. Do you allow little children on the vicinity? Have a great day!!
You are very fortunate to have what most people would consider to be a vacation space where you live. Every time I get frustrated with all the people trespassing on my property, I remind myself that at least I don't live in a suburb of Los Angeles anymore. There's a difference between people not giving you your space vs. not having any space because you live where the houses are smushed up against each other. I love the country and will take as much nature as I can get.
the river looks so nice and refreshing...do you keep your fish or throw them back...we don't have fish like that over here. sounds like a great time! sadie is so cute...
What a lovely river. Does it get warm (or safe) enough in the summer time to swim in? I love swimming in nice running rivers best, I like the way the water moves and they feel clean, not like lakes or the ocean.
We lost our two dogs at the same time a few years ago too...their names were TK and Kita. (T and K names too).
Does your aussie like to swim now? The mini aussie my mom and I have doesnt like to swim but will wade in to the water so long as he can touch the ground. Hawkydog will jump in any body of water at the first opportunity, he LOVES it and will also chase a ball for hours. Great pics!
Kritter Keeper- There are rules and regulations on catching fish, we can only keep hatchery raised salmon, we have to release any wild salmon. How we can tell hatchery from wild, is the hatcheries have a fin cut off. So we do keep them. We smoke the pink salmon and the others we BBQ for dinner! My OH has the best salmon recipe! It's a secret though, he won't even tell me what it is!
Chelsi- Yes, the river gets pretty low and gets a little warmer in the summer!
Sadie loves, loves, loves the water now!! She has her own pool at our house too! Bailey doesn't care as much for it, he'll wade in but won't dunk his head or actually swim, like Sadie!
What a nice perk! Sounds like a perfect place to live. My dogs LOVE the water, if I lived that close to water, my dogs would be in there every day.
Do you get tired of me telling you how gorgeous your place is?? I would want to take pictures ALL the time if I lived there.
Happy fishing. My husband and children (and me) would be in heaven being able to fish that close to home.
Lovely little spread you've got there, Paint Girl!
I love the pictures of Bailey as a baby!!! That is so cool and beautiful there!!! I love all of the scenic pictures :)
I'm so glad you decided to go public! You're doing great.
I had to laugh. The intrepid cowgirl, can't swim and are afraid of heights, standing at the edge of a huge cliff overlooking the river.
