Hay Replacement

For those of you who didn't hear about our hay fiasco, go
to Pony Girls blog here, she did a post about the mess. So we spent a few days, dumping the moldy hay (we did not buy it moldy, it was too wet when baled, and it molded a little over a week from when we purchased it). That was not fun! My poor OH, who did most of the work getting rid of it, and he was not happy! After 5 years of buying local hay, we have never had this happen. At least the guy gave us a full refund. So, off to buy more hay. We found someone selling local hay right down the road from us. They had approximately 40 bales left. We headed down there right away. Our regular local grower/seller won't be ready to sell his hay until the middle of July. When we got back to the house to unload, Bailey decided he wanted to jump into the truck. This dog has never jumped into the back of the truck before, not on his own, anyways! He does look like one happy dog, though. It did make it more difficult for me to move the bales to my OH. So I adjusted my routine, and worked around Bailey.

See how hard it is for me to work around him? Every time I went to pick up a bale, he was on it. So I would have to move to the next bale.

Once we were done unloading the hay, we tried to get Bailey out of the truck. Uh, nope. He didn't want to get out. So he hid under the toolbox. He acted like he was in trouble, Bailey, you are not in trouble! We just need you out of the back of the truck!

My OH had to climb into the truck to try to coax him out. Nope. Didn't work. So he had to pick him up and push him off the truck. But, my OH said we could take him with us to pick up our next load of hay. Yippee!

Bailey was loving every minute of it. Although, he did try to jump out the window. I had to roll it up halfway to keep him in the truck! If he got loose in the field, we'd probably never get him back!

I love watching my OH work. I get to drive the truck around to the next bale, while he picks them up and puts them into the truck. He says I have the easy job.
I do! I am not complaining one bit!

This has to be the face of the happiest dog in the world!

Here my OH is strapping down the hay. We usually can get around 28 of the smaller local bales on the back of the truck. The bales weigh on average 50-60 lbs. If we go pick up over 28 bales, we take the flatbed trailer.

We made it back to the house. Bailey decides he has to be back up in the hay! This is something new he has decided to do, jumping into the truck and laying on the hay. Bailey and I decide to take a well needed break, well, my OH didn't think so. But wait? He's the one taking the picture right?

We are down to the last bale of hay. Ok, this dog of mine can be strange, but Bailey, do you have to lay on the last bale that we need to move from the truck? You aren't making this easy on us!

Umm, Bailey? We really need to get that last bale out of the truck! Nope, he is not going to budge. Did I say he was strange?

He looks very sad that we removed his last bale. We couldn't get him out of the truck, it's like he thought a bale of hay would suddenly reappear so he could lay on it. He is not a happy dog!

Where, oh where, did that last bale go?

This is how my OH had to get Bailey off that last bale of hay. Sorry the video is so dark, but you will get the idea!

Bailey reminds me of my Aussie, Caper. Caper likes to jump in the back of the truck.

Those Aussies sure can smile though, I love the photos.

Silly Aussie dog! Chey will get a weird bug up her butt every once in a while and do stuff like that too! :)

I get the easy job when we go get hay too. I LOVE it! lol

Bailey just wanted to make sure his mom and dad were doing a good job!

It is so cute he liked to do that! :) He wants to be part of the process. Call him the hay supervisor. I don't think he wanted to come out of the truck because of Sadie. I think he felt safe up there, he knew she couldn't get up there with him. He did the same thing on the trailer. She couldn't get to him and he was like- neener-neener!

Hay Cuz! I'm glad the whole HAY sitch-ee-ation has finally ended. I'm sure your OH is too! Bailey looks so cute. he reminds me of Rosie who goes everywhere her Papa goes, they don't want to miss anything. I've also tagged you to play along with a little crazy 8 game, see my blog for details. You only have to play if you WANT. No pressure if you don't!

LOL that was too cute!! You now Bailey hiding in the corner reminded me of when my Hubby put one of our Aussie's in the bed of the truck he did exactly the same thing. Hunkered down in the corner and wouldn't come out, he acted like he thought he was in trouble!! Hubby had to carry him out!!

I think Bailey thinks he's a ranch dog! Cindi, our Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix thinks she's real tough until one of the horses wants to sniff her. Her courage and determination fly out the window then!

Bailey is a cutie . My dog loves his "car rides" and often gets in the way unloading hay too , must just be a dog thing

Bailey looks like he is going to be another one of your new coworkers! or co-not-worker!! He is really beautiful. My fovrite snapshot is the one of him under the toolbox! That is so funny!
I'm glad the hay fiasco is no behind you, and I bet you are too. Can you believe how fast the hay got moldy? I don't know that much about hay harvesting, but I am learning a lot since I got my horse. Just curious: do you make your own dog food for your dogs? We don't do that for our dog, but I think about trying it.

Gotta love that sweet Aussie smile! Just like Duke, he loves to be right in the middle of everything. And we can't leave the windows all the way down either or he will jump out. I love how you can hear the dogs panting in the video, Duke is constantly doing that (and drooling, yay, lol). Glad you got the new hay all taken care of!

leave it to a dog to do something new, and then they think they are somehow 'clever' for it..... silly dog

Did you notice in the photo, { third to the last} where he is smiling so big, that the basketball hoop looks like a halo above his happy little head ? Too cute.

Blackfeatherfarm~ No, I didn't notice the basketball hoop above his head! Good thing there isn't a net in it, than he'd look like he was wearing it! LOL! Bailey is my angel dog, so how cool he has a halo!

that was to cute.. Baily is the watcher of the hay!

I should go get some local hay, sure helps get through when the fields go dry in the hot part of the summer.
