Weekly Update

I haven't been very motivated this week. I am not sure why. The first 2 weeks of my unemployment, I was so busy. I mean non-stop busy. But this week, I just can't get a move on! I guess we are all entitled to weeks like this. I have spent most of my time on the computer, job hunting. Ugh. I never would have thought I'd be doing this 6 months ago. It is not fun, there aren't many jobs out there. I have sent my resume out to a few places. I will be sending more out this week. Whatever happens, happens. I mean, I eventually will need to get a job. I love living my semi-retirement life right now, but I know it will have to end, soon.

My printer died on me this week. I had a feeling it would. It has been acting up and printing funny for a month or so. I went to print copies of my resume, and guess what? Not going to happen. Isn't it so ironic, when you don't have a job, something like this has to happen, and you need a printer to print that resume, but you don't have any money to buy a new printer? I guess I should be thankful for that good ole Visa! So my OH and I went to get a new printer. I decided while I was there, to get new speakers for my computer too. They have been acting up lately, and this girl can't be without speakers! I have to have my music! $400.00 later, I have my new printer/scanner/copier and new speakers! Yeah! But I will not be looking forward to that bill.

We had a BBQ at my OH's dads house last Sunday. The day I had my deer photo shoot. We got to see our niece, little K, who is almost 6 months old. She is getting so big! And getting cuter every time I see her! Here she is, with her daddy of course! I just love making her smile! And smile she did!

Here is the view off my OH's dad's deck. I love this old red barn!! I don't know how "old" it really is, but I love it! It was very overcast that day, I was hoping the sun would eventually burn through those clouds, but it didn't happen. Oh well. At least it wasn't cold out.

Want to see my new dog? Isn't she cute! Her name is Sophie. She is a 7 yr old Miniature Schnauzer. I love her!!! Here she is laying in my lap.

Gotcha! Sophie isn't my new dog, although I wanted to bring her home with me so bad! Did I say I love her? She fell in love with me, and stayed in my lap almost all day. Plus she fell in love with Bailey! Oh, we took Bailey to the BBQ to play with the 5 crazy dogs that are there. And when Sophie wasn't laying in my lap, she was following Bailey all over and giving him love growls! It was so cute!! If I didn't have a dog that had issues like Sadie, I would have brought her home in a heartbeat. She belongs to my OH's stepmom's dad, who is in a nursing home. They said I could have her, but I just can't do it.

We went to get another 30 bales of hay on Monday. Guess who had to jump into the back of the truck, on top of 30 bales of hay? Yep, Bailey! Strange, I tell ya, strange dog he has become! I still can't figure out why all of a sudden he has to do this, I mean, I don't care, I just don't want him getting hurt! Remember, I can't afford big vet bills anymore!! And I already have a million dollar cat, I don't need a million dollar dog too!

He is the happiest dog in the world, or should I say the happiest dog on top of the world! That is the windshield right below Bailey. That is how high up he is, the truck is also lifted, so it is a lot higher than most trucks.

My sis and I were supposed to take a friend of mine trail riding on Thursday morning. But my friend C, had to cancel. C, used to own Brandy. She was one of my employees at my job, and gave Brandy to me 5 yrs ago. She still has 2 horses, but they are getting really old. I think Ginger is around 35 yrs old and Krissy is in her mid to late 20's. So I was going to have her come here and she could just ride Fritzy. Since she couldn't go, we asked my OH if he'd like to go when he got home after work. Of course he said yes! We got on the trail around 4:00 p.m. It was a very humid day. Brandy started out all spooky. She was jumping at everything. She hasn't done this in a long time! But after our huge hill climb, she settled in quite well, for a little while anyways!
This here is the hill climb. My sis and I have ridden this before, but my OH has not. He has always wanted too. So we took him up it today. The picture does not show how big and steep the hill really is. Believe me, it is a hill!!!!! My sis went first, than I went with Brandy and my OH followed behind. Going up a big hill like this, the horses really need a lot of momentum. Our horses usually trot up it, but this day, Brandy decided she was going to go all out and lope. I don't typically lope my horses up hills like this, but she started loping, and I did not want to try to get her back to a trot while we were mountain climbing, if you know what I mean. So I just let her go. She was a little powerhouse!

We decided to hit new trails. We were pretty sure where they would take us, and we were pretty close to where we thought we'd end up. We also ran into 2 women walking 9 dogs. 8 out of the 9 were Rottweilers. Only 3 or 4 were on a leash. A couple of the Rotts came up to sniff my sis's boy, they were right on his back legs. My sis let the women know that the horses could kick, and a kick could kill them. One of them commented "That's ok, they could use it". Or something like that. They had no control of their dogs. They kept calling them back to them, but the dogs kept coming at the horses. Once they got behind Fritzy, she kicked out at them, so I said in a loud enough voice for the women to hear, "That horse will kick, out of all the horses, she'll be the one to kick the dogs." Our horses are used to dogs, but when you are out trail riding, and you come across dogs, strange dogs at that, and they are all up on your horses legs, sniffing, and you don't know if the dogs are used to horses, or if they might bite the horses. Fritzy kicked out at the dogs numerous times. The women couldn't get their dogs back to them. A couple of the dogs kept following us and getting right up on Fritzy's back legs. She kept kicking out. You know, if one of those dogs got kicked, it is not our fault. They were warned that the horses could kick and could kill a dog by one kick. I have no problem with people taking their dogs trail riding, or walking their dogs out on the trails, but please have control of them!! These women had no control what so ever of 5-6 loose dogs, and they had 3 or 4 on leashes! Come on people! You all know how much of a dog lover I am, but there has to be courtesy when out on the trail! I would have felt very guilty if one of their dogs got kicked, injured or even killed. But than I have to remind myself, they were warned! It is not my problem!

My OH seems to never have a happy look on his face while riding. But believe me, he has a happy face!! He totally enjoys getting out for a trail ride! And I am so glad he has an interest in riding!

This is a pretty view from when we came out from the trail, the one we didn't know where it would take us. I just love the hills and mountains in the back, with the cool clouds, and you know what? The power lines aren't even ugly to me here!

We had a great ride. We came home, hosed the horses off, put them away with a little snack, than I went in and cooked another awesome dinner!

This weekend we have 2 friends that turn 40. So we will be going to a combined Birthday party on Saturday. On Sunday we will be taking my OH's dad out to lunch, and to the indoor shooting range. It will be a busy weekend. I will try to keep up with you all!!

That Schnauzer is precious. Too bad you can't take her.

Great post. First of all, the little schnauzer is a cutie. Second, the view with the red barn is breathtaking..how beautiful. Ya'll have such great trails to go riding. We have nothing but flat farmland around here or riding along the river. Good luck with finding a job but enjoy your time now.

Love reading your blogs. I am so scared for when my horses are ready to go on the rails dogs are a big fear of mine.

I have run over dogs, had my horses kick dogs and have them run up to the carriage on a regular basis. If the dogs are not on a leash or contained and they get hurt it is not your fault at all. The reason I carry a whip when I drive my horses on the road is for the dogs. I would rather snap one on the butt with a whip and scare it than get it run over or kicked.

i am like sydney, i always carry a dressage whip when i ride...one to whisk the flies off, but two, in case there is a stray dog or something that would like to nip my horse's legs. and they are good back scratchers too! sorry you had to go thru that! i would have been worried about the pack mentality...those woman were very selfish. hope you have a great weekend!

Keep it up you'll nail something down sooner or later. I remember than point - when I was unemployed a couple of years ago - when I realized that it seemed like not having a job was more work than having one. But like you I enjoyed it - wish I could afford not to work.

Oh those dogs make me so mad! Actually, not the dogs at all but the people in charge of them! Last time I was on a trail ride with my friend Christine and a guy in a car drove up right behind us, and then HONKED!! Like he wanted us to move over so he could keep zooming by on his way. That made me so mad! I was proud of Lilly for not freaking out. I guess some people are not capable of understanding some things. They must think if they can't imagine it, then it will not happen!
I really like your "new dog!" Adorable.

You sure do have some beautiful scenery where you live. The dog story just got me -- yes, it would be awful for something to happen to a dog like that, but there is not much you can do except issue the warning. It is up to the people to get the dogs away from the horses. As far as the non-motivation, well, you are still adjusting psychologically and physically to being unemployed. The motivation will return -- give yourself some time. Whenever I hear people here bitch about their jobs, I just think of how many people would give almost anythig to have a job....It is tough out there right now.

wow...you have been bussier than you think by the contents of this post! You can't feel bad when you warn people about the dogs...but as many times as Brandy kicked out I am assuming that she was only warning them, she could have gotten them if she really wanted to!!! LL will kick too in the same situation but also misses them!

I bet you would love to have that field and barn! Your OH's niece is too cute. I think Bailey might need more therapy than Sadie. I'll explain more in person. :) I think your grandma would steal that dog before you could take it. And I love how in our trail ride pictures, it fluctuates between cloudy and sunny....it was kind of humid, strange partly sunny weather. Fun ride, though!

Nice pictures! Its nice to see your OH. What does that stand for? You are lucky he has an interest in riding. Good luck with the job search, I'm sure something will turn up. Just don't get something that messes up the august Cle Elum dates! LOLO

Hey PG- If I remember right, you are a shooter... why not pack a pellet pistol? A little Air Soft might encourage dogs to back off.... This way, you wont have to worry about pepper spray blowing back in your horses faces, or an actual pistol (which I'd pack anyways...*just in case*) and the repercussions from having to use it.

Might be worth checking more into! ;)

Meantime, happy K9 free trails!

Little K is adorable! I want to reach right out and give her a squeeze! She is tooo cute!
As for those bad dogs, wow! That's not cool. I would have been pissed. If your dogs don't come, don't take them off the leash!!

Mrs. Mom~ Thanks for the pellet pistol idea! I never thought of that one. My OH has talked about packing a gun when we go trail riding, just in case. You never know what can happen when you are in the middle of the woods.

Oh the view from your Oh's dad's deck is awesome!!! I love good views like that!! And tose sure were some steep inclines you guys were on! And as far as those dogs go I really wish Fritzy would have got one! I know you would feel bad but come on that is ridiculous!! Their owners are stupid for having that many at once and not leashing those 2!! Hope you had a great weekend!! I'm hoping to get caught up with everyone, I'm so behind!! And thank you for your kind words on my blog!

Sounds like a fun-filled busy week to me!

Love the old barn, and the schnauzer, and of course the trail ride! I am out of work too right now, and some days I just can't get motivated. I have to live by a list and try to get things done off of it every day.
