Since Saturday was my last day of work, I invited some friends over to hang out by the firepit and have a few drinks with me. I really needed to let my hair down for awhile after the last month of work, which was absolutely crazy! I am so glad it is over. Now I can just plan for the future. I had 8 friends and my neighbors here. We had a really good time. It was nice to be able to just let it all go, and enjoy myself.

The dogs were out playing all day with my OH and Pony Girl. They were very tired by the end of the night. Sadie had a bad day today. She relapsed and attacked Bailey twice. She hasn't attacked Bailey twice in one day, ever. One of the attacks happened while I was at work, the other, not too long after I got home. I am starting to wonder if I will ever be able to modify her behavior. We can go a month or more with no incidents, than we have a setback. Since the weather has been so nice, the dogs are outside all day if we are home. I sometimes think this makes it worse. When she is really tired, she gets really grouchy. Since I am not working now, I will have more time to spend with her. Just another thing to add to my list of things to do!
This is Sadie, by the fire. She handled all the excitement of the people here pretty good. She does start to get very anxious, but she actually laid down and behaved herself.

Sunday, Pony Girl came up, we had plans to ride again. I have decided since I will have a lot of time to ride now, that I will also work on loping Brandy. If I longe Brandy, I always have her lope, but I don't always lope her while riding. I want to get her to slow down at the lope and be more comfortable loping, with me on her back. She is still not completely trained at the lope. I still have a hard time getting her to take the correct lead and she crossfires a lot. She also crow hops when she slips, or is uncomfortable.
I had already worked on jogging, she was really good today. She was very consistent at the jog and stayed on the rail. It was very muggy out, I think with the heat, she just didn't have much energy.

Here we are loping. I have to let her have her head, or she feels too restrained. I do keep light contact on her mouth. She would speed up and I would check her, than she would slow back down. I wasn't using the whole arena, I usually just use one end, once we get a few weeks of consistent loping in, than I will use the whole thing. I noticed the grass in this corner is getting very tall, something else to add to my OH's list of things to do!

I noticed I was leaning forward here. I don't usually do that. I did notice while I was riding her and corrected my posture. My trainer prefers leaning back slightly. If she saw this, she would be wondering if I forgot everything she taught me!

I look like I am leaning to the side here, but I think it is the picture. Brandy has a tendency to lean while loping, but not as bad as Fritzy. Something else I need to work on. I am also looking down here, when I should be looking up. This is why I love looking at pictures of me riding, I can critique myself and correct my mistakes.

There's that face again! Always watching!

Can you believe Brandy didn't crow hop today? Not even one time, she even stumbled while loping, and she didn't react to it, like she usually does! Good Brandy! I LOVE my horse!
After cooling out, I always let my horses graze. There isn't any grass in their pasture, and we sure aren't lacking any outside the pastures!

I believe Brandy was very content, what horse wouldn't be with all this lush grass around?

I will leave you with a video clip of our very successful loping lesson!

Sorry to hear about Sadie attacking Bailey. Maybe she was feeding off some of your energy from it being your last day of work? I know my little aussie mix is very tuned into me and often reacts to situations according to my "mood." Just a thought...
Brandy has a gorgeous lope, it looks super comfortable! Have you done that bareback? :P
Beautiful looks great. How old is she? You guys look great!
I'm impressed. I need to get my equitation instructor to work with me on keeping my rear glued to the saddle at the lope. I tend to bounce. Last year he wouldn't work with me much at the lope, because he said I had to master the trot first. Meanwhile, I was paying him $50 an hour for each time I didn't master the trot. I think I'm going to have to reason with him this time around and explain that I don't ride much thanks to my job, and can't practice between lessons often. Therefore, he needs to just keep the lessons moving and make sure I'm learning something new each day as opposed to doing the same thing over and over until he's satisfied.
Looking good !
Too bad about your dog. Hopefully now you can work on it and figure it out.
Good job loping.
She is so pretty! I like the video of her loping.
I'm impressed. Maybe someday I'll get past trot.
You guys look great!
Sorry to hear about your dog, they can be funny sometimes. Keep working with her, consistency is key!
She looks really great! Fun stuff! I'm a "riding video" watchin' fool...I love to youtube riding lessons, dressage, etc. Thanks for posting that! You guys look wonderful!
Turned out great!! You both look so good together. Sounds like a rainforest in the background, with all of those birds, LOL! :) I like the picture of Brandy in that green grass, she looked so cool knee deep in it.
You two look beautiful together! Poor Sadie. Hope you get it figured out with her. She is such a beautiful dog. Glad you had a nice evening.
Sadie, Sadie, Sadie. Poor pup just doesn't know how good she has it. She would have killed the Man Cub by now. He is horrible for pestering the dogs, especially Jax. I hope you figure things out with her. You looked great riding Brandy, very smooth. She's so pretty! Have a great day tomorrow Cousin! I know you're LOVIN' this sunshine!
Wow! You two look amazing together. You're doing a great job with her training. She looks so collected and under control in that lope...and you must have glue on your butt! heheh!
I wish my mare would lope like that. Her trot feels like a jackhammer because she also forgets which lead to move into to. And her lope isn't collected and smooth at all, though it sure covers a lot of ground. gah!
Sorry about Sadie. Hopefully during your time off you can help her work through those issues and control those attacks.
And instead of your OH having to cut the grass in the arena, you could just let the horses loose in there to eat it :)

April~ No, I have not tried loping Brandy bareback! I have only ridden her bareback one time, and that was at a walk, a very uncomfortable walk! LOL! She has a very narrow, bony back. Not good on my skinny butt!
Lizz~ Brandy is 13 yrs old, going on 14. I got her when she was 9 yrs old, but very, very greenbroke. So we (my trainer and I) have done alot of training over the last 5 yrs with her. She is a very insecure horse, so I am so happy with what we have accomplished!
Lisa~ You crack me up! There was no glue on the butt involved in the making of this video! Ha! I actually was a champion Equitation rider in my teens, seems so long ago. I always am so critical of my riding, and feel like I am not riding properly. I have realized, it is a lot different when riding green horses, and I doubt I will get that championship ride again!
Oh that is awful that Sadie attacked Bailey again!! I hope it gets better...Great job working her on the lope, loved the video so we could see her form when she lopes!!
Brandy is looking great, and you are, too!
When are we going riding?
Pop me an email; it's on my blog. We'll plan an evening ride!
Wohoo! Way to go! Brandy looks great, her lope is really nice!
Aww poor Sadie (& Bailey for getting attacked!), sorry to hear that. Brandy looks great, she is so beautiful! I wish I could get out and ride our 2, they need worked so bad and I need the experience!
Your commitment and dedication is showing, she and you are bothy doing great, loved having the clip to watch!
Good Job!
Your grass amazes me. We literally have dirt--that's it! Beautiful place and horse.
Party sounds like a good time. Glad Sadie behaved herself.
You and Brandy look very relaxed and good together at the lope!
Oh you are going to have such a fun summer spenidng time with all the critters and riding. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

They are mens but I can fit in a mens 6 BIGG FEET!! Hahahah I found alot more with much lower price if you interested give a holler!
Sounds like your horse has some balance issues right now, which will get better the more you canter her. Then, she'll be able to slow down. Horses go fast and lean at the lope when they are out of shape and unbalanced. It will come in time.
You and Brandy are looking good. I can relate to some of the issues you are having. Luke is not a "young" horse either but in many ways, I have to train him like one. He gets unbalanced and rushes or leans. I have to make sure I'm not collapsing on one side or the other trying to compensate. If I try to collect him, like I would normally do with another horse, to resolve how his front end is running away from his back end, he gets frustrated and goes into some weird gate that I don't even know what to call it. I think it's that touch of Tennessee Walker in him.
You look great in that video!
Brandy is flea bit (freckled) like my mare. I love her!
I love watching you ride...Someday I hope to sit like that in the saddle....:-(
