My second day of unemployment went like this. I slept until 9:30 (and it felt good!), went out to shovel horse poo for around an hour and a half (big pasture), and my biggest task of the day, washing my horse trailer, that turned green over the winter. Now for those of you that have a horse trailer, know that this is not an easy thing to do. I wash my trailer all summer long, but during the winter, not gonna happen. Not where I live. So I end up with a green trailer, although this had to be the worst year for green goo. So how does a skinny, little girl like me, wash a big horse trailer?

Yep, you guessed it! A 6 foot ladder is a must! I should probably be doing this when my OH is home, in case I fall off, especially since I was in my flip flops (totally unsafe!). But I can't just wait around until he get's home from work. I would be losing that critical sunshine, that is needed for me to work around water. Plus, I only climb to the 3rd step, if I go any higher, my intense fear of heights kicks in, than I would definately fall off!
I had to scrub every crack and crevice with a toothbrush, that green goo gets in every nook and cranny, I tell you! And it was bad! On top of using the toothbrush in the cracks, I had to scrub hard, to get the streaks off. It took me 2 1/2 hours. Whew!

Here is my supervisor. I call him supervisor Bailey. Although, he quit supervising once I turned the water on, never to be seen again. I wonder why that is?

Tada! Here is my trailer without that ugly green goo! Doesn't it look pretty? I think I did a mighty fine job of scrubbing off all the goo, even though it was serious scrubbing work!

A couple years ago, we got one of those portable carports from my dad, so my OH could set it up and I would be able to park my trailer under cover. Guess where it is sitting? Next to the shop, still in pieces. My OH has not tackled that project yet. I have been bugging him for a long time, to put it up, so I can get my trailer out of the weather. Something else to add to my OH's to do list, that list is starting to get really long!
Fly Update~ This is totally unbelievable. It has been in the 80's, and I have only seen a couple flies, but not on the horses. Usually while I shovel horse poo, I am attacked by them, but yesterday while I was out there shoveling poo, nothing. Fly Predators really work! I am starting to think I won't have to use fly masks and sheets this year. Of course, I will keep updating throughout fly season. If this works all summer, ya'll better be buying Fly Predators next year! I'm tellin' ya, they work! So far!

You have a very nice looking horse trailer even if it is covered with green goo! I wanted to say about your last post: I really liked your pictures and video of you riding. Isn't it great to see the real action shots? I think the collection you and Brandy had was totally wonderful. She looked just like she's supposed to! Beautiful! All you needed was a big ole cowboy hat!
WOW! Paint Girl what a really nice trailer you have, beautiful and all shined up! Good job!
Oh, I have heard of fly predators and that they work really well. I may have to try them. Wonder if they kill horse flies? I HATE those monster flies, they bite Gilly and me and he will hardly come out of the barn when they are out and attacking. Not much fun to ride when they are out, unless you ride at 7 in the morning.
That looks like a brand new trailer after your cleaning. Good to know that Fly Predators are working.
the trailer looks brand new! now you can clean mine! about those fly predators...i am going to order some. the flies are beginning to get in the barn. thank you for updating us...that is a good thing to know!
Fly predators do work. My university has been doing studies and they are really worth the money. We used them this year and no flies.
re - trailer washing: What the heck is that green goo?!?
re - fly predators: are there any other horses or cows nearby? I've heard that the fly predators don't work as well if there is.
cdncowgirl~ the green goo is from the trees, we live in a very wet state, it rains almost all fall, winter and spring, it is nasty. The patio furniture, any vehicle that doesn't get washed often, collects this. It is nasty. But it does come off, just takes alot of scrubbing! We don't get it in the summer, we actually get mostly dry weather in the summer! I just call it green goo, not sure what the technical name for it is!
On the predators, the only cow in my neighborhood, lives quite a distance from me, I have 2 horses that live directly behind me, and a couple across the street, and more scattered throughout the area, but we all have acreage so they aren't very close. It has not seemed to effect us at all, having the horses behind me. They actually take really good care of their manure, who knows, maybe they are using predators too! :)
Good job Paint GIrl!
Wow! What a job that was! Looks great now though! I also do chores that I shouldn't in flip flops! ;) P.S. Your playlist is the best...I love that new Billy Currington song. Somethin' about it...I always turn it up in the car!
Looks great. Perfect weather for it! I know it is a big project!! Be careful, you don't need to mess up another knee or your neck falling off that ladder!! :) xo
Looks purty spiffy, Cousin! I guess the whole getting laid off was good for something. Even if it just gave you the free time to wash the trailer! I hear you have a couple of opportunities happening, good for you. I hope you find something that's going to work for you. Hang in there!
Maybe Bailey thinks the green goo will get on him, too? hehe :) He's so cute!
Your trailer looks great! You worked hard. I've never washed my trailer since we bought it over 2 years ago. We don't get much rain at all, except in July and August, with afternoon thunderstorms and the rest of the year stays dry as a bone. No chance for goo to set in. lol!
No flies for us here either, except maybe for 2-3 weeks in July/August. They tend to hang out in the barn where it's shady, but don't bother the animals if they just hang out in the paddocks.
I'm glad the fly predators are working so well. If we ever end up with a fly problem, I'll be sure to get some.

Great job on the trailer cleaning!!! That green goo is something else!! Very shiny now though!! Oh I wish I would have gotten my predators on time...But I procrastinated and didn't get it done...It is so hard to decide how many and where to put them because my horses are so spread out!! But I so glad they are working for you!!
You did a great job on the trailer - it looks brand spankin' new in that one photo! I am going to try those Predators next year. We are covered in flies here in Pennsylvania. Mostly though, we get the gnats! Ugh!
A toothbrush?! Well, it paid off..the trailer looks awesome!
Beautiful trailer wow so clean. I tried on the boots I guess this little lady can not fit in mens either boohoo they are cute. Glad to hear you have no flies I have been feeding Kodak garlic and it seems to work. If Lakota ever comes home.....he will get it too.
My sister, Amber, and I were just talking about how we need to wash the trailer. It was used a lot this winter and it looks like it too...lol!!!!
Glad to see that you are having a good time so far. :)
RiverBend Farm~ I used the toothbrush on all the cracks etc, my regular car washing mitt can't get into all the little nooks and crannies that the trailer has, don't worry, I didn't use a toothbrush to wash the whole thing!
I'm very impressed with your project. Do you wash it very many times during the summer months? I'd kinda like to put my resume in for Bailey's supervising job next time!
Wow! Wanna come do mine? The boyfriend pressure washed most of it, but it still needs some tooth brush work. I just love the green trailers around here. It's just great! :P
I am glad to hear that the fly predators work - I have been wondering about those.. You'll have to give another report on them at the end of the season, then I will decide on whether or not to try them....
I have been and done that - only I just crawl right on top of my trailer - I have only fallen off once!
Keep yourself busy time will fly by...
