He was all alone. I couldn't see any other deer with him at all. They always travel with others. So I am sure they were just out in the woods, where I couldn't see them. I don't know if it's a he, I am just going to call it a he. He seemed very interested in Sadie's pool.

Than he decided to walk across my backyard, like he was going to leave.

But wait........he stops. He turns and looks back towards the pool. Hmmm.....I wonder what he is doing?

He decides to head back in the direction of Sadie's pool. Something must be very inviting to him over there. I am going to point out something now, that I did not notice until you get to the end of this photo series. I am so glad I got this on camera. The bridge behind the deer is the one that goes over our creek, which is dried up now, that takes us out to my horse's pastures. If you look very closely, you will see on the step of the bridge, my cat Morgan.

The deer stops. At this point in time, I am wondering what he is doing. Remember, I did not notice Morgan on the step of the bridge until later. I started thinking that the deer was thinking of crossing the bridge, and I could feel my heart pumping a little faster, thinking, this will be great to get on camera! A deer walking across my bridge!

He turns and walks towards the bridge, my heart beating even faster, I still have no idea Morgan is on the bridge.

Oh my gosh! He is going to walk over the bridge! I can't believe this is happening! My OH has no idea what is going on, he knows I am taking pictures of a deer, but he walked off and is oblivious to what the deer is about to do.

The deer changes his mind. He's not going to cross the bridge today. Darn! I was so excited to get this on camera! Than it hits me. I see Morgan on the step, AHA! That is what the deer was doing, he went to check out my cat! And Morgan, being the good little cat she is, sat there silently and watched. I bet her heart was going a million miles a minute! She is one fearless cat!

The deer heads back towards Sadie's pool.

Wait a minute, what is he doing now? He goes up to the pool. What is he doing? He looks back towards Morgan.
Then he takes a drink out of the pool. So that is why he was so interested in the pool! He wanted water! We haven't had rain in 27 days, very unheard of around these parts, especially in May/June. The creek has dried up, the pond still has water, for now. The only water left is in the pool.

He still seems a little concerned that Morgan might make her move. She is my hunter, she kills many animals, the biggest being a bunny and a robin. But would she make a move on the deer? Do you see Morgan looking very intently at the deer? I can only imagine the thoughts going through her little head.

The deer moves to the back side of the pool and continues to drink. I was able to get my dining room window open, without the deer noticing, for this picture, so it came out clearer than the others.

The deer finally starts to head away. He still seems to want to keep an eye on Morgan. You better watch out for that cat! I'm tellin' ya, she is a dangerous one! It was time for us to go to our BBQ.

I was so excited to get all of this on camara! I have the hardest time getting wildlife pictures. And this just so happened to come about so unexpectedly. You know how hard I have been trying to get pictures of birds, squirrels, butterflies, deer, bald eagles, hawks, snakes..........just kiddin' on the snakes! Besides my intense fear of spiders, I am also terrified of snakes!

With Morgan being the fearless hunter she is maybe the deer was picking up her killer instinct vibes. Morgan was probably thinking of how awesome it would be (for her) if she were more cougar sized! lol
Heck, I have a hard time getting the Boyz playing on film. Like you, I see stuff from inside, but if I try to go out, the horses stop and I get nostril closeups.
Great photos!
Oh Paint Girl! What a great series of photos of the deer and Morgan. That is really cute! You haven't had rain in 28 days! I know where all your rain went - we have it!
Lovely pics, Paint! With my dogs here we rarely get deer wandering through the yard these days. Sheep and horses, yes (although they're not supposed to be there!)
That is just so neat!! I am SO surprised at Morgan...How cool is is it that the deer was curious about the cat?? Your life souinds a lot like mine sometimes -- we frequently have deer in the back yard, and they jump the fence into the pasture. Just loved this picture story. By the way, it has been raining here like crazy for the past few days.....
lol I think I further instilled the spider fear. Like I said just wait. I'll get the banana spiders this Summer they are HUGE
Nice series,I enjoyed that.We have TONS of deer here and they are such a nuisance.
paint girl you are so cool! many thanks for referring to me! i love my deer. your deer looks like a yearling female. she didn't look preggie or that she just delivered. her mom is probably with the new fawn and she will go back to join her. the girls usually stay with the mom's but the boys get kicked out of the clan! poor boy deer! my deer drink out of the horses trough. good clean water. they have the pond and a creek but they like the convenience. spoiled deer! oh, btw, when fawns are newborns, foxes try to eat them. that is probably why she is wary of your morgan. thank you paint girl for sharing!!!!
Great pictures. What a series! It is hard to get those kind very often. Thanks for sharing.
We really enjoyed them.

Absolutely great pictures. You are really doing well in your picture taking and posting. I love your place too. So many mature trees! We only have what trees Joe has planted and they are all of 4 yrs old! We have deer a lot also but I can rarely get pictures of them.
Isn't that fun catching wildlife on film? Everything is so dry here, I'm surprised we haven't had more wild critters coming up for water.
Great pics.
Great, one more mouth to feed! What are you going to name him? :) I wonder what was going through Morgan's head. She must have wondered if it was one of the goats, but she probably knew it wasn't!
Oh my gosh! How cool is that?!?! GREAT pics! I've been trying to catch some of the wildlife around my house too and not had so much luck. It's TOUGH! How awesome to get a series like that!
LOL!!! "Morgan the Cougar Wannabe!"
Hasn't our lack of rain been unusual?? I swear we are going to resemble Eastern WA in about 10 years...teeheehee!!!
Are you still enjoyning your time off? :)
Oh that is so awesome!!! That is so funny, you waiting for him to cross that bridge LOL!! Would have been so cool though, I can see why you didn't see Morgan she was blending right in with the bridge!! Thanks for the giggles!! Great story!
Love that little bridge so cute.
Oh my gosh! My Chai did the whole stalking a deer too! Except she went after it and it turned on her, striking with both front legs. Chai booked it out of there fast for sure. Great shots!
Great photos! I had deer here all winter snacking on our hay , we counted 24 of them one day!
It's so fun trying to sneakily take these wildlife photos and catch them doing something interesting but it is hard. The action always seems to stop once you have the camera in your hand or they are too far away. Love the story that goes along with the photos!
Wow! You are a really good story teller! A little bit of Nana in you!
