Trail Ridin' With Blog Friends

I had a very busy and hectic weekend. I wasn't home, oh, except to sleep. So I am way behind on posting and visiting everyone. I will be playing catch up this week! Who would have thought that my first week of unemployment would be so crazy? Not in my wildest dreams! Hopefully I can catch a breather this week, and get back to riding my horses. I have a few stories to tell, but I will have to split them up into different posts, or they will get too long, and I really don't want to bore anyone, or put them to sleep at their computer.

Guess who I went trail riding with on Friday evening? Tracey and her daughter Darling, over at Mustang Diaries. My sister was supposed to go too, but her boys sarcoid is really reacting to the Xxterra, which is a good thing for the sarcoid, but not a good thing for my sis. The sarcoid is right where the bridle sits, and her boy has been very irritated this week, from the treatment.
My OH wanted to go. He didn't get to go trail riding much last summer, due to a lot of overtime at work, but now he isn't getting any overtime, and he wants to ride!

When we got to the trail head, there was only one other horse trailer there! I couldn't believe it. This has never happened, especially on such a lovely evening. Once everyone was tacked up, we hit the trail. Tracey and Darling have Mustangs, Steve Holt! and Sandy. I was very excited to see them. I have always wanted to adopt a Mustang, and know that I will one of these days. This was Steve Holt!'s first big trail ride. And I have to tell you, he did awesome!!! If you saw him on the trail, you would think that he has been trail riding for years. He was in the lead most of the way, he crossed a stream, he went over 2 bridges, and he had a young deer walk in front of him on a trail. Nothing phased him, just a little hesitation going through the stream, but within a couple minutes, he went right through the water. Sandy was just as good. He was having a great time, Darling would stop, wait for her mom to get further up the trail, than she'd lope him to catch up. It was so cute!

My horses were actually having a hard time keeping up with the Mustangs. I don't know if they would make it out in the wild! But they did have a lot of energy, and even though they both spooked a couple times, which isn't unusual for Brandy, they were great.

Tracey had her GPS with her, I so need to get one, and we rode a little over 5 miles. Wow! I never would have realized the loop we usually ride, is 5 miles. So now I know when we hit all the other trails along with our loop, it is more like 7-8 mile trail rides.

I do have to say, if you have never considered adopting a Mustang before, please reconsider. Seeing Steve Holt! and Sandy on the trails, makes me want to adopt one even more now than I did before. If you want anymore information on Mustang adoption, please go see Tracey at her blog.

We had a great time. Thank you Tracey and Darling for going on a trail ride with us! Hopefully Pony Girls boy will heal up soon, so we can get her back out on the trail!

Sounds like a great time :)
I've considered getting a GPS before, but mostly so I can go ride up in the forest without worrying about getting lost! lol

It sounds like you had a great time! So nice that OH wanted to go too. Those mustangs sound like great little horses.

You have some lovely trails to ride on; I'm jealous!

What a nice trail.
I wish we had more public riding trails around here. Basically you have to know people or go on the greenway. The greenway is kind of boring though because it's just strait ahead, gravel and ditches on each side .

How I love a nice trail loop! 5-7 miles is just perfect as far as I am concerned! Hey! Is that red flag on Fritzy's tail? is she a kicker? That little devil!
Your trail looks awesome. Love those tall trees. I'd be so crushed if I didn't have nice trails to ride on. You can have so many more de-sensitizing lessons on the trail, ones you could never replicate in the ring. Good for horses, good for riders! Plus, it's just so beautiful. So glad you had a stellar ride!

Colleen~ Fritzy has tried to kick when a horse she doesn't know comes up too close to Brandy. It's very strange. But than again, she can be a strange horse. She was totally fine around the Mustangs and never even pinned her ears at them. I think she liked them! So red flag just in case! Better be safe than sorry!

We are in the same boat -- we were out of town for the weekend, and I have some catching up to do, and also have a lot to blog about. Like you, I will split it into different posts (for the same reasons as yours!!!). Glad to hear your "retirement" has been busy.. makes you wonder how you ever had time to work, doesn't it? The trail ride sounds awesome -- water, a fawn, and Mustangs!!!

Happy to see you and your OH had a fun ride. My OH sometimes uses a GPS for hiking and skiing, but never thought to use it for horseback riding!

Wow, how cool! I was looking for some horsey blogs and I found you by way of Boots and Saddles. We have four horses and my daddy is a pickup man for the rodeos. My mum's horse has sarcoids too and she used that Exterra..but, now she uses original crest toothpaste...and guess what? It actually works. Anywaz, I am just a dog that blogs and wanted to introduce myself. We live in KS by the way. Hope we can be friends and share riding stories.

What a great way to spend the day! Looks like a fun trail to go on. My boys have never been exposed to bridges or water crossings. I wonder what they would do?
