Recently, Pony Girl took me on a little trip. A trip to see the one and only, Clinton Anderson. I have always loved Clinton and have used some of his methods in training Brandy. This clinic came at a great time, since I have started doing some serious ground work with Fritzy. I was very excited to watch, listen and learn all I could. What was really great, was that he worked with a 10 yr old QH mare, that had a personality like Fritzy's. I tried soaking everything in the best I could. I like to actually see someone work with a horse, while explaining what they are doing and than seeing the results. This is how I learn more about training.
The QH below is the one Clinton did a lot of ground work with. He than also rode this mare. This is also the mare that is the same age as Fritzy, and has a lot of her personality traits.

I am not going to get into all the details about what he talked about, and what he did to get the horses to do what he asked them to do. I think every one who knows Clinton, knows his methods.

What I really loved, was his humor. He made it fun. We laughed alot! There were alot of giveaways, unfortunately my sis and I weren't picked to win any. I tried making my sis get up, and jump up and down so Clinton would notice her, and pick her to answer a question. I think she jumped up once. He seemed to pick the loudest person in the crowd.
At the end of the day, he worked with a horse that would not load in a trailer. The next series of pictures is of him making fun of people and how some try to get their horses to load. It was hilarious. Just watching this little mare so terrified of the trailer, and than wanting to be nowhere else but in the trailer was amazing. Sorry for the poor picture quality. I haven't figured out all the settings on my camera and I also had to zoom in quite a bit.

Clinton did not fall here, it was planned.

What do we have here? Yes, this is Pony Girl, Clinton Anderson and Paint Girl!

I have to thank my sis for taking me to this clinic. I loved it. I bought Fritzy a pretty pink rope halter, 23' pink lead, and my sister bought me a pink handy stick! I am a big pink girl. I love pink. So this will just add to my collection of pink for my horses!
Today I went out to work with Fritzy again on ground work. She had 2 weeks off, due to my elbow injury, which is now healed, and to being a very busy bee last week! I had great improvement using Clinton methods. I think from what I was doing before, which is very similiar to what Clinton does, and applying Clinton methods today, really helped her understand what I was asking her to do. I had her backing away from me, not perfectly, but she is backing away! I also had her sidepassing from the ground so much easier, even though we hit the brick wall again sidepassing to the left. But it didn't take as long to get her to move away from the pressure. This will be the most challenging part, getting her to move! I will be working with her everyday this week, and I am looking so forward to it. I really think this will help with her pushy attitude!

Since my Fritzy girl was so good today, I took her out to the grass field to graze.

After I fed the horses, I went into the garage to feed the crazy Aussie's. We keep their food in a metal garbage can. I went to take the lid off and started screaming. My OH asked what was wrong. I realized what I was screaming at, nope, not a spider. Whew! I took the lid off the garbage can and carried it over to my OH. I made him hold it while I ran into the kitchen to grab my camera. I have been talking about trying to get a picture of this very elusive animal around here. Well, it came to me! This little guy was camping out in my garage, on top of my dog food garbage can lid! Ain't he cute?

I took him out to the stream to release him back into the wild. Hopefully he can find his mate!

Here he is, free at last! Isn't he cute? I can't believe I screamed at him! I just adore frogs!

Fritzi looks so cute in her pink halter! It's always fun to go to those things and come back home with new knowledge and see it working!!!
Hugs!!! P.S. I remember having frogs as kids and letting them play in the bath tub. They floated around on plastic lids.
Do it Paint Girl! Put it in the bathtub!! :)
Glad you learned something at the clinic. I was just bummed to hear that Clinton was married. That trailering demo was textbook perfect. Now I think we should head down and apply his method to the Dustbuster! By the way, do you think the halter will fit Brandy, too?
Sounds like you and ponygirl had alot of fun. Sorry ponygirl about Clint!
awww cuuuuute froggie! Hes a tree frog right?
My sister would have screamed. You should have seen the time she watched my whites treefrogs for a week. They both got loose, one landed in her hair and she started screaming bloody murder....I don't think we are related seriously.
I love clinton. Everything he does just makes sense. I have his book downunder horsemanship which is an excellent exercise book that summarizes things that you do wrong and your horse does wrong and how to fix them for each training bit.
Sounds like a super clinic. I love learning something new to try on the horsey.
Since Clint is married, maybe ponygirl should have kissed the frog ! Was he wearing a little cowboy hat ?
What a sweet sister to treat you to something that you would love so much. Did you ask her when that trip to Hawaii was coming up she's paying for, HEE HEE!
Who knew that frogs read your blog? Well this little guy sure decided to help out when he came to model for you! lol
I think I'm about to be forced to take a mini horse hiatus. Pie is *really* sick and I'm quite worried. Funny thing is some pony time would help me deal with the stress but I'm not sure I'll be able to steal that time for me & the ponies.
What a great thing for your sis to take you to!! Clinton is awesome! Like another reader I have his Downunder Horsemanship book, it's great! I love the picture of you girl's with Clinton, sorry about him being taken PG~M! You know frogs are an endangered species now...Well at least in KS they are...
What a nice sis! Sounds like fun.
Cool frog — never seen one like that.
Love Clinton. I am going to order his book since I do think Lakota will be comming home in 3 weeks I need to be ready for him. He is sooooo bad on the ground he is big and he uses his body to just push small humans around. I have alot of pink stuff too I am in remission from Breast Cancer for 7 years now. I love the Wrangler -
aRE You Tough Enough To Wear Pink stuff its too cute. The girls put Twinkel Toes pink glitter on Kodak the pony all the time. I am thinking of getting one of those rope halters you find they get thier attention? We HAD to use a stud chain on Lakota before he left for more training.
glad fritzy is doing better. sounds like it was a great time! froggie is adorable...wonder how he got in there?
PAAAAINT GIRRRRRL!!!!!!!!! I shrieked when I saw Clinton on your blog! WOW!! I'll bet that was so much fun. I saw him once too in person and he was also very funny then!! He loves a crowd!! But you got your picture taken with him!! Now I'm really jealous! And the PINK halter and lead rope!! NOW I'M GETTING MORE ENVIOUS BY THE SECOND!!!!!!! Does it say "Made by Clinton Anderson" on it??? Again I shriek, with real joy.
Love the frog too! That green skin! Wow!
Lizz~ It seems like the rope halter gets their attention more than a regular halter, I have had to use a chain on Fritzy, she ignores the reg. halter alot!
KK~ I think a cat probably brought the frog into the garage. It happens all the time! I am just glad the kitty's don't kill them!
Colleen~ I knew you'd like that picture of us and Clinton! My handy stick does have Clinton's name on it.
Looks like a good clinic and that Clinton Anderson is not hard to look at! glad the techinques are working on Fritzy
Paint Girl, I have seen Clinton twice and had my picture taken with him twice, he is a doll!!! I loved the clinics I have been to of his, Gilly is trained with his methods and they work for me, easy to understand and Gilly responds well to them. I have a lot of his DVD's and books too. I didn't know he was remarried, he used to be in Ohio you know??? We had claim to him for awhile but now he's in Texas. He puts on a good show and has a wicked since of humor....sorry Pony Girl, he would be a good catch for you! :-)
~Jane and Gilly~
Clinton is not only good with horses but also extremely hot!! Dang you are so lucky to have gotten to go!!! And I had no idea he was married.... But it looked like fun. Oh and frogs are nasty. I would have screamed and then run away!!! Pony Girl knows of my phobia. Nasty liitle tree frogs
Way cool- I'm jealous!! I love that 'down under' accent of his. It's great that you got a photo with him. What a memory!
I love going to clinics. There's something about the 'seeing and hearing' that brings the idea home.
Paint Girl - what fun you guys had!!! And the frog - he sure is a bright green - I would have screamed too! Wow! Fritzy looks cute in her pink halter.
So...what if that frog had asked you to kiss him??? Then when you did he would turn into a very handsome prince and then he would have asked you to marry him???? Maybe you should go back to the pond and look for him since your OH still is not cooperating!!!
I loved seeing you two sweet sissies together. Cute! It's neat you share the same passions. Makes for good bonding, huh?
Frog was super handsome. I also love those--too bad we don't see many out in the desert. When it rains at our cattle ranch, the kids are so excited! Frogs and salamanders pop out of the ground and are everywhere. How is that possible? Crazy.
Yay! I get to see a pic of not just Paint Girl...and not just Pony Girl...but both of them TOGETHER! How cool is THAT?! You two looks so cute with Clinton, too.
I'm glad you were able to go and that his methods are helping you in your training of your horses.
Wow! What a very green frog. He looked big, too. I would have screamed first, too. I get startled easy and then get excited. hehe!
